My first MCR Concert is coming up in March and I was wondering...how long should I wait it line to get in before the concert starts so I can have a good chance to making it to the front? Hours? Minutes? Days (gulp)? What would guys suggest?
PostPosted: Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:05 pm

FROM THE EARLY MORNING, quite possibly THE NIGHT BEFORE if you want to get a good place.

Let me put it to you like this, I saw them in Brixton in november(?), Usually, you can show up at like, 4 for most bands and be in a pretty decent place. We got there at 2, and we were 3/4 of the way down the street (it's a short road, but in comparison to other shows, that's really far down for the time we were there)

March is the stadium tour right? (Well done guys), lets just compare.

Brixton Academy capacity: approx 5,000
Wembley Arena capacity: approx 90,000

I know, right?

EDIT: Spelling(?), thanks blackusagi

wow big leap.
But its a huge down side for fans more people get in but can you actually see them??

I get to see them in the Magness Arena in Denver...so if the show starts at 7...do you think i'd be good if I got there at noon...or should I shoot for 10 or 9?

I like to think so, but I have no idea. In a stadium, as far as I know, they would have screens and a raised stage so you can see them pretty much wherever you are, but I've never been to a stadium event, so I can't say.
The main problem, as I see it is that in places like Brixton, the main floor is raised, so by the time you get to the back, you're higher up than the band, but since a stadium is essentially for sports, the whole ground would be at the same level (unless football has introduced some fun, new rules I don't know about).
Also, security probably isn't as strict since they can't possibly see everything that's going on. And, especially if you're short, breathing is a problem because when you get stuck in a large group of people there's less air, and when you get stuck around taller people, there's little-to-no air and it's mostly stale, I've come close to panic attacks from not being able to breathe before, and if you're... ahem.. 'heavy-set' like I am, it's a huge problem because they can't lift you and pass you down to security.

Also, being stuck around, behind, in a group of tall people makes it needlessly hard to see.

I'd say 9 or 10, but it really depends on the people going. I'd say think about what time the 'average' fan would think of to get a jump in the queue, and try to be there a couple of hours earlier.

Are you going with a friend at all? If not, try to convince someone to keep you company in the line, and maybe pack some food. Try not to take more than you need, the more you bring, the more likely you'll have to go to the cloakroom and if you have to drop stuff off in the cloakroom then like, a few hours worth of waiting will be undone as people storm the venue.

It's so fun being able to help, I feel all wise and stuff.

wow.. i dont wait in lines to get in.. ^^; i get there like ten min. before the show and get to the front. But be sure to remember, if you are going to wait in a line you should bring water and somthing to do! Also rember you will have to stand through the concert as well.

I'm going with my friend Caitlin and two of her friends, so I guess I'll shoot for ten and bring a book or something...would you suggest bringing an ipod or no...will it get stolen?

Water...check! that's good to know!

Have any more good advice Simmi-chan whee ?
PostPosted: Wed Jan 17, 2007 3:10 pm

You can bring an iPod, but make sure to keep it secure, I lost a cheap mp3 player at a show because of the jumping around mostly. Don't put it anywhere that's easy to get to, if the arena's full enough, someone can reach into your pocket and you can't really do anything about it. I had someone's hand going in and out of my back pocket for ages once... either that or he was having a wank behind me, which isn't a nice thought.

Umm, wrap up. If you have anything lightweight that's quite warm, that's your best option. I don't know about denver, but here the weather will change and mess you up in the middle of summer. Also, you're going to be out there for 9 hours, being out in the cold for just 10 minutes can really mess you up, especially if you're not moving. If you bring something light that you can fold and pack away easily then if it is hot or warm, then you can put it away easily. Also, you'll be sweaty and damp when you leave, generally you'll feel warm when you leave because of the adrenaline, but you're body isn't warm and that can put you at serious risk (a lot of drunk people get hypothermia for the same reason). You'll need that coat when you leave.

Don't plan anything strenuous the next day, you'll be exhausted and you'll be in pain. I had college the day after an MCR show and I was wrecked, I fell asleep twice in my sociology lesson and I could barely walk in because me legs were stiff and sore.

In fact, if you have anything relatively unimportant the day after, try to get out of it if you can. I'm not just playing devil's advocate because I hate school, but more than likely you just won't be up to it.

If you do have to do anything the next day, plan it out well before you get ready for the show, clothes, books whatever. After the show, you'll probably be wired for an hour or two at most and after that you'll probably fall asleep, and in the morning you'll probably be more zombified than a normal morning, so you'll be in no way to actually think about what you're doing.

If you're lucky and manage to be up at the front, try to stay near the barriers, even when you mosh. Not only is it a wicked view (usually), but it's near water distrobution, security, and provides a quick exit should anything happen.

Of course, this is all based on personal experience, so I understand that things may be different for you.

KaidaNiwa, sorry, I just noticed your post (not that it was aimed at me, but I've taken it upon myself to be a concert guru for now). Bamboozle is a festival right? I'm sorry, I don't know anything about festivals, but I can ask around if you like?

Without knowing, I'd give the same advice I gave Shura, think what time most fans would shoot for to get a jump on the line, and shoot for a couple of hours earlier.

EDIT: Sorry, I just thought of something. Try talking to people in the queue if you're sociable enough. A lot of people are douches so they may just ignore you or tell you to bugger off, but there are generally quite a few nice people running around. There may even be someone putting something together, so maybe you could help, but only if it doesn't comprimise your place in the line, of course. Don't just walk up to people at the head though, they'll just assume you're trying to jump the line.

Early on, people can be quite chilled if you move about and then try to go back to your place, especially if there's not a lot of people, or it's only one or two of you, but later on people will complain.

EAT! I can't stress this enough. Don't eat a lot, because that will all come up when you get inside. Eat something fairly substantial before you go, that's just to help keep you alive in the line. But if you can, bring something with you that you can eat later on that will give you a proper amout of energy and keep you failr full, not like the snacks you'll most likely have with you. You'll need a lot of energy to get through the show. If you can drink an energy drink or two before you go in, provided you don't have a weak bladder, please do.

Of course, maybe don't do all of this, but whatever you eat/drink has to not make you want to pee, not unsettle your stomach and give you plenty of enery. And not the kind of energy that you get from a sugar rush, or you'll be exhausted halfway through the show.

So...let's say I had the ipod and maybe a book and my coat (which would wrapped around the ipod for protection) in my messenger bag and keep the bag on me...will that work out any? Or do I have to stick it in the closet room? I think if I'm at the front there won't be enough room to really jump ( crying but it's so much fun, I did it at Reel Big Fish). I sat next to a French Guy on a nine hour plane rie to Paris...and he kept looking at a dirty magazine and getting up to use the restroom, so I can fully imagine how awkward it would be for you with that guy...I wouldn't like that happening to me at all either xp ..

I definitely remember that from the Reel Big Fish concert...after wards kind of sucked because I only had a vest on...so coat, check!

I just have school(grrr), I might take the day off...I can't imagine really being alove that day after or not. After the RBF concert I had to work the following day for about 4 hours...not fun. But going to a college class after all that? Kuddos to you my friend!

Every concert's different, I've only been to one thus the need for your wonderful advice sweatdrop . So they give you water up there? I thought they only throw some on the pit when they thought it got too hot. That's great to know!

Putting what kind of things together? But that does sound like a lot of fun (and a way to make the time pass by)! I'll definitely try it! Since I'm going in a group I hope that'll save my spot in line.

Great things to know! So...energy bars would work to right? What kind of enegery drink would be best?
Thanks!
