In the spirit of democracy with which this Guild was formed, named and managed, I would like to conduct a little straw poll.
Some time last year - possibly longer ago - there was a discussion about whether the GBG should have an anthem. Various options were discussed, but there wasn't a strong support so I decided not to push for one.
After that the idea sank out of sight, so now I'm resurrecting it for your collective input. It is also helped by the rise and rise of YouTube, which will in all likelihood allow you to link the rest of us to your favoured suggestion.
Would you quite like some sort of anthem?
If so, then what?
To get things started, my suggestion at the time was The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society, but it's always better to let people have a say. The lyrics though, <3.
Now, over to you..

Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations.
I'm sorry, but however good the Kinks are (and however much I love them), Elgar as a national/forumal anthem is irrefutable.

Hah, I rather like this song! I'd say the Kinks, it's very English indeed!

So, it's Eddie Elgar versus The Kinks so far. Any opinions, further ideas, suggestions?

Barbie Girl.
Why?
Because its just... rofl
I think it would suit the guild for reasons I won't mention for fear of being lynched.
Edit: Ha, too bad Katie. No way, ever. I'm pulling rank on this one.

An anthem seems like a kind of cool idea. Here are my suggestions: English Rose by The Jam (the link is actually to the Paul Weller solo version, I couldn't find a video of the Jam doing it.) Roots by Show of Hands (again, couldn't find a video, so here's a link to another of their songs. I'll try and find the Roots lyrics later.) Bill Bailey's proposed new national anthemThat one by The Kinks also seems pretty good.

Some of the other suggestions were good but I think I'm with the Kinks.

Righto, added you both. Is there anyone opposed to an anthem?
I'll do the final count of votes once I'm properly set up at university.

What about The Imperial March by John Williams? Okay, maybe not so much, but it would be perfect for the time when the empire strikes back. (Oh the pun! It's almost too much!) No orchestra video so the soundtrack is stuck onto this FF8 video. Here.Just incase anyone is interested, here is a nice remake of the song..
