Quest System...

So I was just wondering what people think of the Quest System? I know it's down right now, but did anyone get a chance to try it out? smile If so, what did you think?
And...I love Gaia, I do. I give credit to the admins for all they do. ...but doesn't it seem like everything new they put up is taken down in the same day because it's messed up? xd

o.o If you read Fleep's journal you'll see that the program is fine, it's just that there was a sudden overload and they needed to fix where the "I'm new" post would go. Because the welcome to gaia forum was flooding.

It's not complete, far from it, so bugs are to be expected. Perhaps because I'm a programmer and know how this goes, but I never expect a new feature to be perfect upon release. Everything consists of trial and error, and until you test it on a large group you don't really see how the results will turn out.

I feel bad for Fleep and the team that worked on this system, they put a lot of work in and no one seems to realize just how in depth this program is. I honestly wish more people would take programming classes so they can see just how hard writing a simple game of pong can be excrutiating.

I'll reserve my judgement of this program until phase two is in effect, and I wish more users would do the same...but again, maybe that's just because I'm a programmer who realizes that it's not an easy job. ;D

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing anyone who worked on this. eek Far from it, really. I'm not anything of a programmer, so I don't have a clue how hard it is...I just know it's terrifying to even think about. xd
And honestly, I didn't think you had to test it out on a large group to find the bugs- I just thought it had to be tested in general. 3nodding I haven't gone around bashing the programmers though--I feel kind of bad that so many people complain about every little thing on Gaia. I mean, if it's so terrible, why be on the site, right? =/ Meh.
Granted, I have my complaints. I just try to keep them to myself because I do realize it's hard to try and do a job and appease everyone at the same time. @.@;

o: Yes, testing on larger groups is a highly necessary step. While testing on a small group will find certain bugs like broken links, repeat loops, and other such stuff as that, a large group will bring up issues like flooding, accuracy and what not depending on the systems function.

Like say I created a program to do taxes, I could test it on ten people and find errors like adding malfunctions and what not, but until I tested it on a larger group with different tax issues I wouldn't see the full extent of the program. Make sense? @_@

I didn't mean to sound like I was scolding, I'm just rather sick of the crap so many people are handing the crew who built this system. Fleep actually said something about being sick of the GCD, which in my book isn't good. He's been a pretty patient guy, and this means too many people are giving negative feedback.

D': I really don't like that so many of these people bitching were bitching prior to this about not having the system, and now that they have it they're suddenly pissed about the only quest on there and claim to be better at programming or art work. Just makes me realize why I really don't want to be a programmer when I'm done with college...even though that's probably where I'll end up. *shakes a fist*

I personally did not get a chance to see the actual Quest System when it was up.
But a friend of mine did and she said it was pretty sweet.
I just can't wait for it to get up again.
Course...I'll probably wait a day to go on.
Because my computer will just drag if I go on when it comes on (like everyone else).
The mods are pretty creative. I'll give em that.

@ Enelya: Yeah, that makes sense. And I actually feel bad for the programmers/admins who run the site. It seems like every time something new is done, there's an uproar. But if the site was kept the same, people would complain that it was boring. =/ I just always saw it as if you don't like it, don't get on the damn site. rolleyes I just hope the programmers/admins realize there are people who appreciate what they're doing--even though some of us may question a lot when things come out. *almost always hits the Q&A section for new programs* sweatdrop
Oh, don't give up on programming! Honestly, there'll always be people who complain, but you get to meet other awesome programmers and you can laugh at their idiocy together. 3nodding xD

I think the quest system is going to be great once they bring in some larger quests and work the bugs out.

D': Honestly, I don't know how many "cool people" I'd actually meet. It's all just so blah. I need an advisor in college is what a need! D:< But my college is so unorganized it doesn't know it's tits from it's a**!
