Leveller xXDrummingBeastXx [SkIPpY-KnIVeS] i pretty much like anything from the 1st or 2nd wave, 3rd's okay, but it lost all it's skank-y goodness, especially the bands with no horn section. Skippy likes the horns. I honestly dont even concider bands without horns ska. It then jsut becomes raggae, or in this case punk. hey! there's some good ska bands without the horns, like: Ak Band J.J. Allstars Gangsters Suicide Machines (well the ska songs they made) Ska dosen't need the horns to be good, and a some of the 3rd wave ska bands today like Reel Big Fish sounds more punk with horns than ska. I know, but without the horns, it doesn't sound like ska. Reel Big Fish is ska not only because of the horn section, but they have all the musical qualities that ska music has. Their music is mostly in major key signatures, and they focus on upbeats in their music. These 3rd-wave ska bands that dont use horns, do not sound like ska to me. A lot of the time they do not focus at all on upbeats, just heavier rhythms, which is not very ska-like. Im also hearing a lot of minor/dimenished/augmented keys in the music. Sure, ska isn't always in major, but it usually is. I know you dont need horns to be a ska band, but in 3rd-wave, I think it's important. 3rd wave ska without horns just ends up sounding like punk.
