What really bothers me is Evanescence's new video for "Call me when You're Sober."

If you haven't seen it, here it is.

Then compere it to Within Temptation's "Running Up that Hill" video.

HERE

which was made three years ago.

Now you tell me who's unoriginal.

Any others you all would like to share?

Stylistically I enjoyed the second video much better since it actually told a story in a way.

I hate to say it, but I really have no attachments to the new evanescence song or video. It just seems to lack the spark that made the first album so dear to me. The song itself feels a bit flat to me, and the video reflected that as well. I can see the similarities in the dress, and perhaps a bit of floating, but the "Call Me When You're Sober" video doesn't speak to me. It feels more like dark imagery just strung together to make a visually appealing video that is devoid of real emotion or overall impact. In essence it feels more like a fluff piece than anything that had honest work, effort, and relevance to the song.

Now, the second video you gave has a very diffinative story to it. It speaks not only with words but visuals as well about what is happening. I like the use of imagery that is delicatly illustrated for the viewer. I've never heard the song before, but I was still drawn into the video, interested to find out what would happen next. Granted, the band was featured prominatly (Which seems to be a fad in videos lately) but it didn't detract from the overall feel since a good chunk was set in a concert like setting.

After watching both of those songs, I can see a few faint similarities, but then again every artist builds on the work of those who have come before, and step on the shoulders of the greats.

I agree with you whole heartedly about the new Evanescence song/video.

I love the stuff on their old album. But this video seems really to be only trying to sell Amy's "gothic" image. I dislike it.

My main peeve with the video was the floating thing.

The only thing I could say in defense of the floating was perhaps it was a metaphor for trying to rise above the situation the song depicts. Past that point... well I already said my piece... though I don't think the background dancers should have been allowed to float as well. It detracts from the special and unique quality of being able to float if everyone can do it.

After watching both of them, I have come to this conclusion:

"I concur."

I guess the thing that bugs me most is the fact that there are so many people out there who say that Within Temptation and Nightwish copied Evanescence.

And that really ticks me off considering both bands were around way before Evanescence; therefore, any blatant similarity like that just really gets my goat.

That makes sense.

ACTUALLY, my dear. I can give you a whole HISTORY of Evanescence. The group was originally formed in the mid-90's. At summer camp. When Amy Lee and Ben Moody were just wee little teenagers, younger than the majority of us. Their first EP was released in late 1998 or early 1999. They only hit the big time three years ago. (By the way, if you're curious about the older, pre-Fallen material, Amy and company have ok'd the downloading of said material.) Since Ben left in October '03, the band has been steered in a new direction. Amy's got a thing for fairy tales (her online nickname is Snow White), so since the lyrics of "Call Me When You're Sober" are so straightforward, she decided to do a Little Red Riding Hood theme. She said so in the making of the video thingy on MTV2. As far as I can tell, none of the boys protested, so there you go.

I must be one of the only people with this opinion, but I really don't find very many similarities between Lacuna Coil or Within Temptation and Evanescence. Or even Nightwish or Flyleaf. Each band is unique, and while some comparisons may be drawn, it's clear, at least to me, that they're all different. The example you showed isn't EXTREMELY similar. Within Temptation's video depicts a more Christianity-oriented theme, while Evanescence based their video on Little Red Riding Hood. Really, all I see in common between any of these bands is the rock-ness and the female singer. And I'm a huge fan of Evanescence, so I should know.

Please don't think I'm being partial or turning a blind eye. I'm being truthful here. And I love what Nightwish did with "Phantom of the Opera". And since I'm done playing public defender for Evanescence, Morty, I think it would amuse you to know that I saw a Final Fantasy AMV using the awesomely hardcore Nightwish version. 3nodding Twas interesting.

Haha, I'm an idiot, I didn't know what you were talking about for a second.
I'm pretty sure this is it. But when in doubt... try checking this.
