O.K., so we are all Geezers. When did you first see or hear of MTV? Today is the 25th Anniversary. I remember my parents got cable a week after I got out of High School, in 1983, back when they actually showed lots of videos.

I remember the day it premiered. My friend and I sat in my basement and watched it. Yep, music videos all day and all night. My favorite was when they would pull videos out of the vault. I was truly in awe when I saw The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

I used to think Martha Quinn would be the kind of girl I'd like to date. I still think she was a cutie, but I think I would have ended up gouging my eyeballs out if such a fantasy had ever come true.

I didn't watch a lot of MTV, because I only liked the narrative videos and we didn't have cable for a long time, but I remember when they did this thing (on one of those free cable weekends) called Mtev-yeh, when Red Dawn came out. They all pretended they'd been taken over and turned into a Soviet propoganda agency. Hahahahaha. That was stupid.

I miss the old MTV. It was a great friend to me as a kid. Being a born roleplayer, all those low-budget, psuedo story videos inspired my imagination.

And I'm a die hard Duran Duran fan to this day! lol

I remember going over to my friend Suzie's house and watching the Bruce Springstein (stien?) video where you got to check out his butt. All the mommies were giddy over that pose of the BOSS from behind.

But, yes, I'm a Simon Le Bon Girl myself.
"Bon...Simon Le Bon..." Hee hee. I saw the View to a Kill James Bond movie just because Duran Duran did the theme song.

What is that naughty Duran Duran video with the female wrestlers? I thought I was watching porno when that came on! My mom would have spanked me for sure if she caught me watching that stuff!

Well, I really want my MTV!
I want straight music videos and music news. Maybe an episode of the Monkees or a documentary of punk.

But I guess that's what VH-1 is for.
Is it even still on? All I watch right now is G4.

Ah ~ the good old days ~ when it was videos - videos - videos 3nodding
My parents weren't exactly thrilled with MTV, though we could occasionally get them to watch... I can remember my dad laughing at the robot themed one ~ with the legs walking back and forth... I was thinking of it when I started to type this, and wham, song popped right out of my head as soon as I went to type in the song... gonk
For the most part we had to watch it late night when they'd gone to bed, or when I was babysitting.

I would turn on MTV back in the day when my son was an infant (he is 20 now) and I was home with him and babysitting other kids. Then they would actually play music all day. The last time I turned it on was about 9 years ago and it was very little music and just a bunch of reality BS.

The Monkeys brought back a lot of memories biggrin

I really don't like reality TV. It's too "bread and circuses" for me.

I like cartoons, though. Remember liquid television?

I loved the first season of Liquid Television. I really need to see the Aeon Flux movie *crosses fingers and hopes they didn't screw it up too badly*

.- i remember when MTV wasn't a channel, but something that came on sometimes - before it was its own network.. *sigh* good times... -.

.- if you haven't seen Aeon Flux, Blackwing, you haven't missed anything. they made a mess of it, for anyone who was a fan. -.

I used to like those ZZ Top videos with Cathy Ireland. Or is it Kathy?
I can't remember. That's probably where I got my girl-with-glasses fetish.

That was a great car in those videos, too. If I had a flying car, it would seriously have been the ZZ Top car.

PS. Umberella has sexified the pumpkin outfit, yet retained some of the trappings of fantasy I adore! She needs a video.

So hey, somehow I missed this thread before now, but wow, Martha Quinn, MTV, wow.
Does anyone remember how Michael Jackson fought to get his videos played on MTV cuz his music was not considered ROCKnROLL (but more dance music)? Hmmmm.

I remember that! And that he was the first black artist allowed on MTV and only at certain hours of the day.

I remember entering a contest where you could win Paul McCartney's car from "Give My Regards To Broad Street".

And that town that they painted pink that they gave away?

And the Madonna "Make My Video" contest where you got to make a video for True Blue. Then they showed a whole day or awful videos that everyone made.

Although old MTV was the best, I still want someone to Pimp My Ride. Having a car would help this considerably.
