I was thinking today about our nations proud background of world famous architects from Christopher Wren to Norman Foster and that is rather a basic generalization of the subject. Not to mention the numerous architectural masterpieces that fill our cities! ...I think i will start off by suggesting something very controversial (its not my ultimate favourite) and that would be 30 St Mary Axe more commonly known as "The Gherkin"...its a fabulous glass skyscraper that i feel also looks like a pine cone aswell as a gherkin. I like it because i always see it in the distance on the South side of the Thames standing above most everything else...i think its shape makes it stand out and it just stuck in my mind.

I think the London Post Office Tower is rather sexy building, although I don't have a clue who designed it.

Durham Cathedral
Not just beautiful, but acoustically stunning. Computer modelling and advanced wave theories help modern designers come up with complex, hi-tech performance spaces, that still don't sound as good as this 12th Century lump of stone.

Lancaster Castle and Priory
Holds a special place for me, for fairly obvious reasons.

The best architecture in Britain comes from the 1200-1300's. whee Particularly some of the castles built by King Edward I.

Okay, so I SO have to go back to Lancaster....and soon. Even the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park is missed. And that is one seriously weird piece of architecture. I could swear those gargoyles move.

My favorites would be Buckingham Palace, the Royal Crescent, Salisbury Cathedral, The ruins of Burkhemstead Castle, The place where the Crown Jewels are stored, and well there are too many to put down, all British architecture is good.

Oh...Harrods store was well made

St Paul's £11m clean-up revealed

The interior of one of London's most important buildings has been unveiled after a four-year, £10.8m restoration.
About 1,000 cubic feet of dust have been removed from inside St Paul's Cathedral since work began in May 2001.

The famous dome, stonework, gilding and mosaics have been restored thanks to a donation from a single family.

It is the fourth phase of a £40m restoration project to be completed in time for the 300th anniversary of the laying of the final stone in 1708.
