MankindMickFoley Mr. Bono Vox MankindMickFoley Mr. Bono Vox MankindMickFoley What is Briton? Someone who comes from Britain. Someone who is British. So why wouldn't it be Britains? neutral Because that is incorrect, that word means something completely different. Clearly. neutral And by that I mean, it's not completely different. ^_^ I know what it means; but you could have simply said, "Briton is to American what Britain is to America" and made it equally as clear. wink Just for future reference. MankindMickFoley Mr. Bono Vox It is because Britains means belonging to Britain. Furthermore that statement above is wrong because Briton is not to American what Britain is to America, in fact that statement makes no sence at all. I believe the line you are looking for is, 'Briton is to Britain as American is to America. Have a nice day. No, you idiot. BRITON means "belonging to Britain". Thought you'd know that. You're parading it in your sig. stare Illiterate fool. neutral Oh, and please: Now that above was some American I presume basing every other thing on the fact that Americans are called Americans. He after the above PM blocked ME. So I went onto another account and PMed him one final time. Quote: I'm not the illiterate one. You are suggesting I use Britains instead of Britons. Using the word Britains would not make sense neutral Briton does not. Briton means a native or inhabitant of Britain. You use Britons when addressing the people of the country in question you do not use Britains because as I have said it means something different and is used differently. Britians would be used in a statement such as this: Britains history is great. Now tell me does this statement below make sense to you? Britains, you sit silent as they rip the heart out of our democracy. Stand up and make your voice heard. It doesn't make sense to me. And it would not make sense to the BBC either. Please think these things through before you open your mouth or begin typing. Firstly please tell me I'm right. xp Secondly, how would you feel if some American or other idiot came up to you and started accusing you of not knowing how to type or speak your own language. I was deeply annoyed by the fact this guy came up to me spouted off and make incorrect statements then blocked ME. Honestly, I have bumped into some prats in my time but he takes biscuit. rolleyes

Socrates in Disguise *sits in a quiet corner with a large cup of hot lemon tea...begins to loudly ramble* Who am I? Who are you? I am you. You are I. but niether of us are ourselves. We are hidden behind facades of guilt and popularity contests. We follow the money instead of the voices that scream in our hearts. Don't think you know what I'm like or what I'll do just based on what I've done before. Past experience NEVER proves the future. Hume, Locke, Decartes, me...we are all philosophers. So as such, as I sit in this cafe, I can't help but think: People are always preaching their desire for liberty. People wish to be free so why do we enslave our own minds? We pull our own strings like paradoxial puppets. That is all. Thank you for your time.

Cuddle-fish I will take your argument of evolution and advancement and apply it to nations. Clearly, the United States is superior to Britian. I mean, the U.S. has ivented more, is more powerful, more wealthy, has contributed more to the world, has a better justice system, and better hygiege. Plus, we haven't been around as long. rolleyes

"I am Manifest Reality!"
That's a running joke between my brother (reading philo at uni) and me. (No, it is not meant to mean anything more than pretentious bullshit).
You could talk about "existential paradigms" and "noumenal planes of observation"... or some other bollocks.
As for the Britons and Britains. If it was possessive then you would need to indicate it, i.e. Britain's, Britains is not a word. A Briton does not belong to Britain, a Briton is a native.
Invi, did Cuttle-fish actually say that? (what was the context, by the way)

A Lost Iguana Invi, did Cuttle-fish actually say that? (what was the context, by the way) Certainly, do you know him? Or know of him?
Link ici: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12948750&page=6
The context was a debate about whether or not humanity is the supreme species. I was arguing for, he against.
The part of my argument he was opposing was, more or less, that our minds are more advanced than other animals and that we are more complex than most animals.

I'd seen him about, I was not expecting such a foolish comment to come from him. Then again, he's not been about much (as far as I know).
Anyway, you know I disagree with the general argument but I am not in the mood for it, yet, I wonder how serious he was being with the final comment. It may be a suble use of reductio, I do not know him well enough to really say. That said, he is miles off with his comments, the US's current power is a result of the hole Europe found itself in after trying to destroy itself... bah, I'm in no mood to address the other comments of his (with regard to the US vs UK).

I find that interesting.
Over here in America, Britons are reffered to as "Britains." neutral
I have learned something new today and I will pass on this new knowledge as it sees fit.
On the other hand, the person who was arguing with you about your own language...well that's ridiculous. In general, there are a lot of really stupid people in America (not all, but a good amount are...).
