I was thinking it may be a good idea to put together a little guide, for fans with homophobic guardians. Because really, just a slight mistake, and your out of manga for good. (It's happened. My friends mom found her reading FAKE, and she's out of Japanese culture for a loooong time. No manga, no Jrock, nothing. It may be extreme, but it's probobly happened to other people.)
Basically, just tips, tricks and hints for yaoi fans. How to inconspiciously buy manga, how to hide it, and shared-computer nightmare avoidence. So, please, submit a tip, any tip! Everything's useful!
Tip #1 If you're sharing a computer, make sure you use hide those files well! Use a non-suspicious file name, like Music.

It's true about firefox. Have something innocent yet not suspiciously so going that you can switch to in a second. If it's possible, close the door to the room the computer is in. That way, you'll be alerted to the presence of someone entering and have more time to shut down something really incriminating. If a tab or open file name says something that would put your parents on alert, shut it down. Better to be safe than banned from the internet until you move out. If it's possible, have your own user section on the computer. Preferably the admin one. If they have the admin one, they can crack your password and get in anyway, but unless you give them a good reason they probably won't. Unless they actually go into your user section, incriminating urls that you forgot to wipe and such won't be a problem. They may not even realize they can get to your section if they have the admin profile, if they're computer illiterate. Sharing a computer with siblings is a larger problem than with parents, because most often your siblings know more about computers. If you share a computer with a computer wizz sibling? No precaution is too great. Sometimes they will look through your files because they are bored. It doesn't end well. If you have manga that would cause problems with your parents if found, hide it. Not in an obvious place like under your bed, because that's where they always look. Put it somewhere they wouldn't go unless their attention was called to that place for some reason. Where that would be changes from parent to parent. It is much safer to get manga than anime in most cases. You can read it without drawing a lot of attention to it. Watching a DVD in your lounge room, it is impossible for them not to see what it is you're watching. Reading is much safter. Get safe anime and manga to show them and talk about so that they don't get suspicious. Something very important is: Don't make it look like you want to hide something. If they think you're trying to hide something from them, the odds are they will try and find what it is.

Keiikou Another little tip; As a minor it's quite impossible to buy harder yaoi. So, do not try. You could get in serious trouble if you're caught. Just think of harder yaoi as something to look forward to, when you get older! Now, I've read people saying if you're young, not to buy BL at all. I personally find that quite impossible. However, if your parents come in your room and go through your things regularly, this may be the best thing to do. If you seriously need your shonen-ai fix, then buy stuff with feminine ukes. So, if worst comes to worst, you can claim that they're a girl.
It's impossible? I'll say it isn't cool, but I've never been carded at Barnes and Noble with my hard-core yaoi. I don't think they're allowed to, and most of them don't know what it is anyway.
But if your parents are against it, don't. It's not worth it when they get mad at you. If my parents weren't divoriced, and if I wasn't almost an adult anyway (I just turned 1 cool , my mom would have had me shipped me off the moment she found my collection.
If you want to risk it, hide your books among other ones. Yaoi anime looks innocuous when it's in a pile of straight manga. If you want to download, change the names on your files, and put them in strange folders like "My eBooks" or anything else you wouldn't use, or bury them in program files.
If you go into the history, you can also delete the sites you visit. Don't do anything in Internet Explorer, because if you search it sometimes pops up in other searches.
