It had been entirely too long. Over the course of the three months she'd spent grounded, relearning how to fly and fight properly after the loss of her right eye, Samodith had watched with no small amount of annoyance as other greens rose and received their due. She would not have called it jealousy, because it wasn't as though they were receiving the attentions of anyone she desired, but she had quickly grown discontent and, quite frankly, rather bored. Practicing, while vital and given all due focus, was not the same as actually fighting - an outlet she had sorely needed. As the sevendays had dragged on, her moodiness had been on full display; while a special, select few rarely received her sharper attentions, she had still run hot and cold, some days eager for visits and cuddles, others preferring to be left alone with her pique.

Once she'd returned to her wing, though, her moods had improved dramatically, and she felt finally able to be more herself again after so much time spent neither here nor there. And, just as importantly, every 'Fall was another opportunity to show her skill and worth, though she knew full well that most would never see and appreciate such traits in a green. But that would never keep her from cultivating them, even if the best she could expect was that she might eventually leave behind the sourness and doubt that had come with being injured so soon after graduation.

Returning to her duties had soothed much of the restlessness she'd been living with, but even that was only enough for so long. Soon enough, an all-too familiar snappishness set in, one that within a few days had her at the end of the ledge she shared with Andelath, gazing out at the Weyr and wondering who. Certain expectations were long behind her, leaving her clearer-headed than she had been in the past, and she knew her previous savagery had left quite the impression. So who would dare? She was still the best, the brightest, the loveliest, and only fools or cowards would deny her what she was due today.

Well? Are any of you coming, or not? I'm tired of waiting. She pushed herself from her ledge as she spoke, bright wings catching the air and oiled hide the afternoon sun. No amount of threadscore could ever make her less of a sight to behold.

About Samodith:
A social butterfly, who is incredibly affectionate but can be temperamental; graceful, charming, and intelligent and confident enough to be a force to be reckoned with if she wants to be. Also very soft.
Positive Traits: alluring, confident, graceful
Negative Traits: temperamental, cruel, manipulative

About Akaris:
Confident, charming, 100% aware that she is gorgeous and willing to use that to her advantage; more vulnerable than she lets on, and highly dependent on the positive relationships in her life; romantic, but also a gossip.
Positive Traits: imaginative, charming, confident
Negative Traits: indecisive, vain, immature

    Rules/Info:
  • There will be 3 rounds of rolling, and then Samodith will choose a winner.
  • The first round will begin at about 9 PM EST on Friday 4/17, and each round will last approximately 48 hours (or sooner if everyone has posted), maybe slightly more depending on my own schedule.
  • If you roll for your entry for the round, but don't fill your post, your points for that round will be halved.
  • Please keep track of your own score and be honest! The rolling and scores, however, are ultimately more for flavor than anything. If Samodith develops a hard preference, which may be influenced by score, that's who she will choose. The highest score or a suitor who matches her total are not guaranteed to win. If she is indecisive, I may roll between suitors.
  • Akaris will for sure be spending the Flight with R'lyr, so riders will have to find their own company!
  • This Flight is open to High Reaches residents only.
  • NPCs are fine, if you have no one eligible to chase.

The morning had been a busy one, but it had left Aurinkoth warmed up and in one of his all-too-familiar good moods (though it would have been more surprising to not see him cheerful). On his ledge, the blue basked in what sun peeked into the Weyrbowl, restlessness settling in. The day was still young enough for more to-do, and he'd been considering many things - talking his Ichta into a trip to the beach, maybe invite Elzebuth to go hunt, mayb-

Oh!

Aurinkoth's mental voice interrupted Ichta's reading so suddenly the young woman nearly jumped from her laying position in the bed as she looked towards him. What is it? she asked, feeling the almost foreign trails of Aurinkoth's interest siphoning across their bond. He did like the chase, after all, and even an angry green wouldn't have dissuaded him. Ichta frowned, sitting up and resting her papers in her lap.

"So you're going?" she asked - out loud so that G'ran could know what was happening and they could respond accordingly.

Of course - she doesn't want to wait, after all, he answered, spreading his wings so that he could push off to circle the bowl in admiration of the young Samodith once again.

Surely you will not have to wait - they simply have to get over the awe of how the sun shines for you! Aurinkoth answered her call, not much of a charmer, but at least very honest in his plain, good attitude.

NPC G'vos of brown Hizulath
User Image

A green stirred, and the scarred up brown lifted his neck from where he'd been curled up atop the fireheights. He watched as Samodeth took wing, calling out to those in the Weyr who might chase. He watched a lone blue spread his wings as, thus far, the sole contender. For a long moment, the brown simply watched the scene play out before him.

There she was, all sass and confidence; there he was, as bright and cheerful in his pursuit of her.

Did he let the duo dance with one another and let them be? Or did he move from his stone wallow and participate. It would be easy to let them have their fun. Besides, who was Hizulath but another brown among the Weyr? Would he be recognized and desired? Would he be wanted in his own right? ... Most unlikely. And perhaps that was just the way the brown dragon preferred. He was the sort who liked to play the long game, and had a tendency to keep to himself. He wasn't a gregarious being, he didn't usually foist himself upon others, or make way to be easily known.

But that didn't mean him heartless or dull as a board.

He was a clever and intelligent being, far smarter than he let on. He was the sort to bide his time, to keep his eyes open, and his mouth shut. He fought thread, he did his duty, just as his rider fell in line. Their time would come to rise up, to be recognized for being more than just another brown in High Reaches Weyr ... that was something Hizulath truly believed. So, for much of his time, he kept to himself and simply let the world pass around him, waiting for everything to fall into just the right place. He was an endlessly patient dragon, but even the most stealthy of hunters eventually had to make their move.

Perhaps, today of all days, he might allow himself the thrill of the chase. He knew what he wanted, certainly, and he hoped he might well finally get it!

So it was, the large brown dragon's eyes whirled a deep purple as he gazed upon the Flight.

Today, he would let himself play the game of the Chase. Whether or not he'd be successful in landing what he wanted, only time would tell.

You cut quite a striking figure in such sunlight! The brown confessed. I've bided my time long enough -- I shall wait no more to have you. He was confident, certain, and intent to pursue.

Even if he lost, it would all be part of the game.

Andelath stretched on the ledge, humming softly as he watched the gorgeous and beautiful Samodith prepare herself. There was just something lovely in watching her. Of course, would I leave you unattended? He questioned, watching her climb into the sky. Look how lovely you are, how you glisten.

He sighed softly and spread his wings, and perhaps a bit clumsy took to the sky after her. She was gorgeous and look at her flying so high.

NPC L'zant of blue Bhavaranth

The air was warming. There were more sounds, more voices, and more smells tangling on the winds that curled up over the lip of his weyr.

There were sights, too.

Like that of bright green now daring others to chase, and -- yes, of course -- catch her. Always a bold thing to dare another dragon to give chase and bet on them not catching up. Latching on, curling around. That sort of confidence was alays attention-grabbing, and Bhavaranth knew it was no mistake. Still, with that sort of spark, with that cheerful splash of color ready to bob and weave and dance through the air, well. How was he meant to resist? With a grunt and a brief stretch he launched himself off his ledge, bellowing draconic laughter as his wings caught the air and he rode it, up and up. We are coming, Samodith! How could we possibyl resist when you move through the air so beautifully? It is our honor to join you in the dance.

L'zant looked up from the writing table he'd managed to fit into his weyr a moment too late, catching just a glimpse of the blue's tail as he dove into mid-air. "Oh, for Faranth's..." He set down his quill, pushed the chair back, and headed out into the hall so he could get to ground level. Not too late again, he hoped.

Fortunately - for her suitors in particular - Samodith was not long kept in suspense. Though she was in a far better place than she had been in her previous Flights, she was who she was, and that was a creature as temperamental as she was charming, which only went double when she was proddy. She might have accepted what could not be, but accepting that and a lack of suitors would have been a stretch too far. The sight of more taking to the air was met with a warm wave of affection, and she looked them all over with an appreciative eye.

To see Aurinkoth was a pleasant surprise; no other had yet chased her more than once, and that he of all dragons would choose to do so was most unexpected. Months ago, in her rage and hurt, she had hated the blue and his boundless happiness. But for a fierce and fetching green, she might have chosen him then, purely that she might tear into him and cause him pain. That had not come to pass, however, and he'd not felt her claws. Still, he'd seen her at her worst, and yet here he was. As optimistic as ever, I see. While there was some amusement in the observation, it was fond, without even a hint of snark. And rather brave, I daresay, to dare me a second time.

Next was a much less familiar face, but no less welcome. The older brown was a dark and handsome mystery, confident and sure, and she did have a track record of appreciation for those traits. Is that so, Hizulath? That begs the question: whyever have you waited so long?

Dearest Andelath, she purred, pleased to see her ledgemate follow her into the air, but unable to resist teasing him, If we are keeping count, you did leave me unattended just the once, but I suppose it is just as well. It saved your pretty hide from scars it doesn't need. In truth, her cousin saw more of her highs and lows than anyone, and endured them all with grace and offerings of cuddles and wherries. Samodith was nothing but fond of him, even if that didn't always save him from her moods.

Another blue rounded out the four - no greens or bronzes today, but she took no slight from it. After all, she'd not yet had a blue or brown! If it is a dance you wish, Bhavaranth, perhaps I can oblige...but can you keep up?

In amongst the pleasantries and first overtures, there was a tendril of thought caught and held, quietly returned in kind, before the bright green broke off her circling glide to shoot upward and out over the mountains with powerful strokes of her wings. As she'd said, she was tired of waiting, and she intended to make up for lost time.

As each dragon joined, Aurinkoth couldn't help but send each a warm wave of cheer - and good luck. Certainly he was there to fly his best, but he certainly did like letting everybody else win too.

It is easy to be optimistic so when everything is so good! How lucky I do not have to try so hard! but even if everything was bad, Aurinkoth would not have faltered. He radiated good cheer now as he did in all times.

Samodith broke from her circling and Aurinkoth twisted to follow along, not yet eager to start getting too showy - or too ahead of her. He would keep pace - mostly out of attentiveness to the lovely riser.

It was nice to be welcomed to the chase, Bhavaranth thought, if surprising. Not that he objected, certainly. Friendly competition was far, far better than the alternative. He returned a wave of grateful thanks to Aurinkoth, but his attention to the green again. Samodith was, of course, the star of this show.

Can I keep up? Bhavaranth trumpeted a cheerful answer, as much a form of draconic laughter as a boast of his abilities. Some might escape me, true enough, but none of them have been as worthy of weary wings as you. You will see how close I follow!

And with a powerful downbeat and lift of his wings, the blue rocketed off after her.

Andelath paused, considering, and gave a rueful noise of admittance. I do hope I made that up to you, darling Samodith.
At the very least he managed to get a good lift to keep up with her, wings open and showing off bright markings. He cooed slightly, focused on her bright beauty.

More competitors arrived, not that Hizulath was surprised. The brown and blue were noted, but not otherwise thought of. His focus, of course, was on another. Aurinkoth's greeting was met with deep amusement and pleasure, and a touch of encouragement in return. With all that luck out there, surely, the blue might need some for himself.

The brown dragon considered Samodith's words, even as he took after her. She might have raced towards the mountains of High Reaches, but Hizulath intended to keep up. He did not wish to outfly her--not yet. He was no fool, after all, and most dragons had little desire to be caught right out of the gate.

Besides, there was a great advantage to a slow start--one might very well admire the view.

Some pleasures aren't meant to be had right away, and some hearts aren't free for the taking. Even if that never changes, I might as well make my intentions known.

Hizulath had his secrets. He was tired of coiling up along on his ledge. Perhaps, for this flight, he might at least find a bit of most favored company. He would, at minimum, at least try.

Once the Weyr was behind her, Samodith steepened her ascent towards the clouds. It was a free but peculiar feeling, to be driven up and on by only instinct and lust; there was no bitterness or anger in her today, and thus far, her suitors had done nothing to offend or displease. While she looked forward to when she would dig her claws into one, the darker part of her that sometimes revelled in more violent acts was quiet, leaving her to be sweet and charming with only a hint of the bite that lay underneath. For now, at least; anyone who knew her knew how quickly that could change. Regardless, it left her free to fly, rather than drop back and fall upon her chasers as she had done before. She looped and twisted rather than taking a straight course, showing off and giving the boys a good look at what they strove for.

You see the world in such a curious way, Aurinkoth. Absolutely effervescent no matter what, she found the blue by turns pitifully simple, passingly irritating - cheer did tend to grate on the nerves when one was in a bad mood - and intriguingly vexing. The capability of a rare few to just be good was...stubbornly fascinating, though she would never admit it. How are you not exhausted?

You are quick indeed, Bhavaranth, although I am not impressed just yet. You deem me worthy of your weary wings, but show me what makes you worthy of my time! Of her time. Of her desire. Of anything from her. She had had to wait longer than she would have liked for this moment, and would not waste it on just anyone. What about him was interesting enough to hold her attention? For an afternoon, at least; she would certainly not promise anything more than that.

Did you? I'm afraid I cannot recall... was her coy answer for Andelath. She knew very well that he had - he did have a particular skill for gifts and genuine charm - but she did so enjoy teasing as a way of flirting. And if it also got her a tender brace of wherries or a pretty trinket, well, so much the better. Perhaps I will need a refresher.

If it is my hearts you're after, Hizulath, that is quite the ambitious undertaking. Some had found their way in - and some of those deeper than others - but even if things had gone as she wished, she was not for one alone, or two, or three. There was no changing who and what she was, even if being like so many others who were content to be tamed would have made life easier. They are worth every trial, of course, but are you up to the task? It may be more than you bargained for.

Exhausted? Aurinkoth could not fathom finding his joy a draining task, radiating that pure sunshine even now. Do you find being beautiful an exhausting undertaking, Samodith? Because you radiate it out for all of us to partake in even by sharing the sky. I offer what I have - it is not a grueling endeavor to be and give happiness.

He was nothing, if not incandescent.

Perhaps spurred on by Samodith's own acrobatics, Aurinkoth rolled and twisted through the air, content to even weave amongst the other fliers as he continued to offer them his joy. Was it not a good time to be happy when there was a lovely green and an open sky? And really, he enjoyed this part quite a bit.

Oh, now that was impressive, all those twists and curliques. A dance indeed! Bhavaranth all but trilled in appreciation, so caught up in the performance (and the added burst of joy coming from Aurinkoth) that he found himself distracted and falling a bit behind.

Would that dissuade him? Not in the least. He made a wide, looping spiral after the green, wings stretched wide in display. I will be quick to catch you, beauty, but not brief in my affection. I will tell a long and lasting tale of how we were meant to be!

How could Hizulath ignore such divine acrobatics? There was quite a show taking place for the brown, and his claws twitched with anticipation. Unlike Samodith, or even Aurinkoth, who twisted and twirled, the brown dragon knew his strengths and his weaknesses.

Fancy flying wasn't something he was particularly well suited for. He was a large dragon, built more like his fellow bronzes than some of the sleeker browns. While he could be swift in short bursts, he was definitely built more for stamina. He would, instead, simply be spurred on and fly a more direct route. He knew what he was, and what he wanted--and greenflights were over almost as quickly as they began.

He wanted to be ready.

Eyes whirling a deeper purple, he thrummed in pleasure. I've always been an ambitious creature and no amount of impossibility or hardship will stop me. Life is ever changing. What one has today might not be what one wants tomorrow. But I'll never be a consideration if I don't make my intentions known.
