GALILEO
The Sniper

Today was a busy day for the group. One which used to be on the small side. Consisting of no more than ten--unless they happened to be working with someone. While the majority took care of going through the old exile members, he came to this highly renowned orphanage with James. Despite the time of year, the grounds looked rather lovely. Everything was kept clean and tidy. At least that's how it appeared on the outside. He walked around the circle and up the stairs--holding the door open for the other before walking in himself.

Inside looked just as pleasing as the outside. It was clear they took the time to make a good first impression. Galileo walked up to the front desk where a rotund lady greeted them from her chair. "Yes, I believe I made an appointment."

"Oh, right. You must be Mr. Roberts." She replied after taking a quick look at her computer. Her eyes glanced over at his companion. "I didn't know you'd be bringing someone along."

"I thought it would be a good learning experience for him." He said before he gave for a polite smile. She seemed satisfied with the response. Next was a bit of information exchange. He handed over his ID--which was fake. They didn't seem worried about James. Another lady walked in to guide them to their destination while talking about all the positive things about the place. Galileo trailed behind her just a bit. Taking the time to look at everything. There was a particular area which was never mentioned, during the little tour, even though they walked by it. He didn't inquire about it though. Instead, he just gave James a look. One the lady wouldn't find odd, but it was definitely a signal. Of course they talked about the plan ahead of time. All he had to do was pull the 'where's the restroom' trick. Make it sound like it will take a long time. Galileo was keeping track of the placement and how long has it been since they passed one. James had time to break away from the group. He didn't have to act right that second, but the goal was to scope out that one area.

James "Middleman" Lake

James wasn't sure exactly why he was the ride along, with this small espionage mission, wouldn't it have been better to bring one of the more professional types. It wasn't that he didn't want to help, it's that just looking at the orphanage gave him great anxiety. Holding his composure, he followed Galileo into the orphanage. It was surprising how well prepared he was compared to himself, then again, Nasya always left the important parts of these missions to her most professional lackeys. Taking a step into the door, he nodded to Galileo, not only for his kindness, but to ensure him that despite his fragile demeanor, he wouldn't mess this up. As the woman suspiciously stared at him when talking with Galileo, he just smiled and kept quiet. He didn't really know what to say to her, he was certain this was the best course of action.

Galileo finished the pre-work and before they knew it, they were moving throughout. It was actually a lot of fun. Despite knowing what they were there looking for, it was pleasant. Coming by and seeing all the children made him happy, not that they were living in sub-optimal conditions, but because the younger ones seemed really happy to see new faces. He got to spend a few minutes with them, at the expense of Galileo's time, but they had to make it look convincing. Right? As they continued moving along, he noticed the signal from Galileo, instantly his anxiety returned. He took in a deep breath as they walked and gave it a few moments before he did what he was there to do. Taking a quick step forward, he reached out to the guide and stopped them.

"Hey, sorry. I'm gonna run to the restroom real quick, I think I saw it back there right?" James said softly, but with his usual a bit frantic speech pattern. After the woman corroborated his claim, he smiled and nodded to her. After telling her he'd catch up with them, he began to walk back off to the room he saw mentioned. It was here where his body began moving on auto pilot, lest he succumb to his nerves. Ensuring no eyes were on him, he found the room once more. It looked like just an office room for some exec member, but if there was going to be anything sketchy, the higher ups would know about it. It was at this point that he pulled a lockpick from his pocket and sighed, beginning to lightly sweat. There was only a few minutes to do all that he needed to do, and a lot of hoping, but he had a gut feeling everything would go horribly wrong be just fine.

It took him half a minute, but the lock released and he quickly slid into the room. It was a big office for an orphanage, but he didn't let his amazement get the best of him. Shuffling over to the desk, he perused the documents on the desk. Nothing looked horribly strange, there was a lot he didn't know about running an orphanage, but none of these documents seemed out of place. Checking the drawers proved unfruitful as well, until he found another locked container. The drawer had a small lock on it, nothing he couldn't handle with his proficiency. It was in this drawer that he finally found something that he could use. A list of names of children that had gone missing, with police reports and everything. With just a brief look over he didn't know if he could find any patterns, but it would be something that the others could figure out. Taking photos with his phone, he looked at the clock and noticed he was getting close to running over time. He quickly covered his existence from the room, and headed out, being careful not to be caught as he ran back, even making a quick stop at the actual bathroom to wash his hands.

Returning to the original spot, he found Galileo and the guide just a bit ahead. He still had a small bead of sweat on his head, but he seemed normal. "Sorry, I got d-distracted..." James said, then cleared his throat as he looked between Galileo and he guide.

There were a couple reason James was brought along this time. One being the others were busy. Another was how he would interact with the children. Galileo wasn't the most affectionate person in the world. At least not normally. Interacting with kids was not his strong suit. Still, he managed to a bit. Patting one on the head and smiling. Most of the time he was listening to what the lady was saying while asking questions from time to time.

James departure with smoothly, but his excuse for taking a little too long was lackluster at best. It didn't appear to matter, however. The guide seemed to barely spare him a glance. Galileo didn't inquire about how successful he was in some secret code. There would be time to get such information later. The last place left to be introduced to was the lush grounds. It was rather boring. At the moment, there weren't any children outside and there was just a bunch of useless babble. That's what people like her do. Spit out information that isn't wanted. Trying to sell something.

When it was over, Galileo said something that seemed to give the woman hope. For what? Adoption perhaps. That's probably what she thought. He didn't lie with his words, but it was possible they could have been misunderstood. A miscommunication he would not correct. Now the two were headed back to the street to be taken back to city. It would be a fairly long ride. He wouldn't ask about what was possibly found. After all, they were using a taxi. "What did you think about the place?" Galileo wasn't really trying to make conversation. The idle chatter was more to give off a certain appearance. "Which child piqued your interest the most?"

▪Thoughts: This is looking like a waste of a good morningII▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: MyselfII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

’Why am I here again?’ Pairs of rubies were at the front desk while fiddling with an object in his hand. A closer inspection revealed a phone but certainly not his. Fingers lightly held onto the electronic device, listening to its chatter on and on about its short life. ’It doesn’t make it any clearer.’ With a small sigh coming from his nostrils, there was little else to do but wait. Such an object would have little information for him, especially considering that it was a brand spanking new cheap phone that you discard when its usage was over. It only chatted about its time in the factory that it was made in, the store that housed it, and who bought it. None of it was all that useful for the amnesia man.

Thinking about the reason why he was sent here was the only clue given to him. Last week, the leader of the Exiles informed him that he would be sent on a mission with a certain male. He had to stop himself from sighing when he was told. Then again, it would be his time to gain an inch within the organization and, hopefully, some information about who he was. For most of the week, the redhead was out exploring the city. Since there was little else to do it seemed like the best way to kill time. When the day of the mission came, Mitch was the one that came up to him. The underling may have learned to read body language the last time they met. Now the guy was just blatantly flirting with him, something he didn’t mind in the least. ’I can live with that as long as he doesn’t get too close.’ The Knowledge Manipulator informed where they were gonna meet up, handed Carter the phone before he was off.

This morning wasn’t the greatest considering how it started. It would have been better to have been spoken to by a more considerate henchman, like actually tell him what the mission was. ’I have to make do.’ Carter reminded himself as the phone was brought into his field of vision. This Knowledge Manipulator barely told him why he had to come to this place, perhaps it was intentional. All that the amnesia man knew was that Mitch was going to inform him as they went along. ’Just great. Hopefully something can come out of this.’

He didn't tell Carter much of the details for a reason. One he wouldn't divulge to the other anytime soon--maybe never. It depends on how things turned out. Although he appeared to have left the redhead to make his way to the orphanage alone, he had been with him the whole time. A chime came from the man's newly required phone as he walked up to the building. Once he checked he would see a picture (like the one to the left) of Mitch giving him a little hello. The screen changed to reveal some text.

                                  Do you prefer to communicate
                                  this way or telepathically?

After the decision was made if there were any questions he would have answered them--for the most part. Telling him some information, which was needed to know, was more important at the moment. He already informed him of his fake name. One which included a surname. When they searched him up in the database they wouldn't find anything awry. When you get to the front desk inform them you are here to see Ms. Del Amorio. There was a slight pause before he continued. If asked, tell them you are looking for...potential. It was all he was going to say on the subject for now. If Carter did what he was told he would be led, by another lady, down a few hallways before being stopped in front of a particular office door. During the trek, Mitch would speak again. Tell me if the walls reveal some juicy secrets to you. It was his way of telling him to be alert and use his power to gain potentially useful information.

After Carter entered the office, assuming he made it this far, he was left alone with Ms. Del Amorio. She was currently standing near her comfortable looking chair. The women gestured to the seat in front of her desk before sitting in her own. "Please, sit." She didn't speak again until she settled into her spot. The older woman asked what she could help him with while using his fake name in a polite manner. Tell her you are looking for someone special. A young child ready to be shown what they are truly capable of. Mitch said as soon as he was able without confusing the other.

Location: An office with Carter and some lady.

▪Thoughts: Are we bringing in underage talent into the group?II▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: MyselfII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

An unregistered sound reach the disinterested man’s ear, garnering his attention towards the device. Their crimson brow was raised as if to question the violet haired’s appearance. ’Everyone has their kinks I guess.’ With that reminder coming back, a text appeared on the cellular object. Their finger tapped the back of the throwaway phone as they contemplated their choice. Going into the city had done quite a lot for the redhead. They learned about their environment and heard some strange things. It was one thing for an inanimate objects to have a preference for a particular person but it was another when the same group did. It was like they were needy, or maybe more like drug addicts who were hooked on a particular drug. Except that this “drug” had a name and one heck of a peculiarity. Most of the time the electronics talked in a roundabout way, sometimes not even making sense, but the pieces were pulled together after a week of investigating. Who knew what side this particular male was with, it was better to side on the err of caution. This will be fine. Carter connected themselves in a mental link. It was only know that he understood why Mitch may have wanted them to touch in the morning.

Since the Knowledge Manipulator was present, he’d probably eventually tell the garnet man their mission. For the time being he remained quiet and didn’t ask any questions. Why? The answers would eventually show themselves up in due time anyways. When told what to do, Carter executed it without prodding for answers. Looking at the lady of the desk, they were able to maneuver the conversation to his favor with the aid of his peculiarity. Reading the front lady’s body language, he was able to smoothly get the result that was desired. As Mitch spoke up about keeping his ears peeled for information, once more, he did what was told of him. Any and all information was listened to, even when they were sent inside a woman’s office.

Royal red rubies took in this Ms. Del Amorio’s appearance before taking a seat in the indicated chair. Carter reiterated what the Knowledge Manipulator told him but did so in a fashion that gave the most positive feedback from the lady. Those beads of red watched the woman’s body language, facial features, gestures and what have you; all that information was absorbed as the intended words left his lips. This was how he was able to get out of tricky situations. Through shifting his wording, manners, attitude, etc to cater to the recipient.

He ignored any reaction the other might have had to his appearance. It's not as if Carter knew he could see him. Then again, he didn't know how much information the redhead could get through the burner phone. It was obvious he could at least hear what was being said. The new member told the woman the basics of what Mitch told him to. It wasn't ideal, but as long as he used certain words it should be fine. "We have many bright young children to ado--"

'Stop her spiel.' He said before she even finished her first sentence whether she was about to spit out a whole paragraph or not. 'You aren't looking to adopt.' Mitch didn't bother to word it as the other should say it since he'd change it up anyway. 'You're looking for the cream of the crop.'

However Carter worded things after being told the information the lady seemed to give him her undivided attention. "What type were you looking for?" She worded the question in an odd way. Why use 'type' instead of something like 'traits'?

'Tell her you want to see the options...in action.'

The woman seemed fine with her question not actually being answered if Carter didn't bother. She stood up as she responded. "Let's continue this in another location. One I am sure you will appreciate." She said before she left the room--making sure he exited before her. The burner phone gave Carter a strange buzzing sensation right before he stood up. It had a slightly charged prickle feel to it. The same thing happened right after he sat in the chair. The woman locked her office and moved to walk in front of him. As they made their way down the hallway she didn't bother to speak--and Mitch seemed fine with that.

Location: An hallway with Carter and some lady.

▪Thoughts: I shouldn’t be surprised about the shady stuff that happens in orphanagesII▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: Myself, Mitch [?], and Del AmorioII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

The walls didn’t seem to hold much information that could have been deemed useful. They talked about the workers that came and went, the children that drew on their walls and ran down these floors, the gossip that they heard from people, and so on. That knowledge was stored within his head before it was reiterated to the head honcho’s servant. Surely they would know what information was more newsworthy. Even the woman’s office had its fair share of secrets. Her clothing sung praise about their treatment as of late, what she had to eat this morning and chatted about their day so far. The desk had a bit of a saucy tale to say, describing how just the other day there were intimate acts being thrashed upon its surface. It may be useful for blackmail in the future so Carter held onto that piece of info. The chair pretty much gave a spiel about all those ungrateful people that came and sat on it’s cushion! It became clear that the chair felt as if it was taken for granted.

As instructed, amnesia man interjected in a manner that would be agreeable with the woman. The two were here for something and it wouldn’t do anyone any good if there was friction between them. Informing Ms. Del Amorio that they weren’t here to adopt a child and used Mitch’s exact words regarding this “cream of the crop”, the conversation changed into something the disinterested didn’t expect. When the lady responded, he reiterated the violet-haired’s words in a manner that would get him what he wanted. Carter was able to discern what these code words were trying to imply. He shouldn’t have been surprised that an orphanage was running this kind of business in the background. And the funny thing is, while this conversation was taking place, it felt like Mitch was moving around. The lean man couldn’t pinpoint their exact location but it seemed that the Knowledge Manipulator was somewhere in this room.

Leaving the office behind, it felt as if Mitch had just returned to his side. That was a bit odd considering that he couldn’t visibly see where that henchman was. It was like they had a rough feeling of where they were. As of right now, it felt like they were in the palm of his hand. For the meantime, Carter followed the woman to wherever she would lead him.

Things were going rather smoothly. Mitch didn't expect anything to go awry even though he just met the guy he was working with. Was it because he took a pek into his amnesia ridden personality? Or was it something else? He wouldn't tell. The lady guided the redhead to a particular wing of the building. One where the walls might have whispered not so pleasant things--at least compared to before. Nothing out right concerning though.

They entered an observation room which looked over what could be considered a training room of sorts. It might have been normal if there were young kids seemingly focused on whatever task they were doing at that particular moment. There were adults with them, but still. These kids were definitely younger than ten years old. Some practicing with their powers. The woman probably started talking about her prized possessions out there, but Mitch was apparently more interested in what Carter was learning.

'Find out anything interesting yet?' If Carter needed to actually go into the training area then he'd suggest the man get her to take him there.

▪Thoughts: What a sketchy placeII▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: Myself, Mitch [?], and Del AmorioII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

The type of chatter the walls talked about was slightly getting and darker. The inanimate surfaces retold stories and accounts of what had transpired, some catching the redhead’s attention. Something was up with this orphanage but it wasn’t his business. No, the only thing he needed to do was to do exactly as told and not put his two cents in this mission. As long as the man got what he wanted in the end, the sacrifices made were just. It seemed that this location had their own fair share of sacrifices too. ’I’m more surprised that the cops haven’t sniffed this location out yet. Well, I guess the orphanage could just pay the cops to keep a low profile. It seems like they make plenty enough.’ This thought was kept to himself. It was a personal opinion that didn’t need to be shared.

Once moved to the observation deck, those crimson orbs overlooked what was down below. The deck had quite the words to say. The glass window talked about all the greasy a** faces that came to this particular room. Such a crystal clear object went on a whole tirade about before before actually talking about the scene down below. Carter was sure to reiterate the object’s words to Mitch, of course he pointed out that these were just things that the objects said. The redhead faced the woman and reiterated that he wanted to see the options more closely. The amnesia’s eyes were fine but he wanted to hear more. The platform had some juicy info but the area in which the kids were now present, surely that would be a gold mine for more definitive knowledge.

He wasn't really surprised what the window had to say--according to Carter. Technically, they had all the information needed. It didn't hurt to greet the kids though. That's why they made their way to enter the training room. Everything became silent when they walked in. All the children were wearing the same boring workout outfits. The closest little one was holding an odd looking flower. The woman giving Carter a tour called out to her as they came to a stop in front of her. Apparently, her name was Melody. She was about seven years old. A petal from the metallic flower broke off to fall to the ground. "Get rid of it." The metal flower, and fallen petal, morphed into a liquid form just to form a ball in Melody's hands. The whole time her expression appeared to be neutral. "Melody controls mercury." The woman explained as she moved on.

"Do you know what peculiarity they have just by being close or do they have to be using it?" He asked while knowing Carter knew at least a bit about his own because they shook hands. The woman introduced them to another child. He appeared to be about nine years old.

Mitch let the woman take Carter to meet the others. When she started to ramble about the business part the redhead's burner phone rang. It was Mitch and he expected the man to pick up. "Act like you are talking to someone important." He said instead of greeting him like a normal person. There was a pause long enough for him to respond. "Mention something about how you see potential so she can hear." Again, he gave Carter the chance to say whatever he came up with. "After I hang up, tell her you have to go but will be in touch." With the information given he hung up on the man.

"Let's get out of here." He said after Carter did what was told and started to make his way back out.

▪Thoughts: Is that it?II▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: Myself, Mitch [?], and Del AmorioII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

There was no visible reaction from the head of red as the children were approached. Their outfits were bland with each material describing a similar story regarding their treatment. Some may call it odd that the same uniforms would have such homogenous stories. It at least corroborated that they were telling the truth, maybe. Such young lives didn’t seem to have much of a bright future if they were to stay under this woman’s roof. But Carter wasn’t here to consider their well-being, he was just following orders to get what he wanted. Melody, as it was revealed to be the girl’s name, seemed so snuffed out of any joy in her life. The same could be said of the boy in the room. All the children seemed to act like little robots with a miniscule amount of individuality coursing through their bodies.

It depends on a lot of things. That answer is not so clear cut. Carter proceed to talk about how there were many factors that needed to be taken into consideration. How often the power was used, was it a turn on/off ability, what was the relationship towards it, etc. Once the man was done explaining that there was an intense vibration in his hand. Picking up the call he proceeded to act the part.
”Yes boss?” It wasn’t too much of a stress to call Mitch a “boss” at this point. He was pretty much calling all the shots anyhow.
”Right….yes...well, there are some promising subjects here. I’m sure they have potential.”
…...
”Yes, I’ll return right away.”

That concluded the amnesia man’s work as he informed the woman that he would be departing. After reiterating Mitch’s words to Ms. Del Amorio he departed from the area. If he was escorted or not wouldn’t have mattered. Carter was capable of finding the exit himself.

MITCH
The Hacker

Carter was rather open when it came to giving him certain information. He liked it. Having to steal such things with his peculiarity all the time could be a bit of a pain after all. Mitch also liked to ask as a way to check to see how much of what he learned lined up with the persons words. Then there was the fact that it would be harder for others to figure out what ability he had if they gave the information willingly. Why show your strengths and weaknesses when you don't have to? In this case, it was a bit different since Carter already knew a bit about him after they first met. He didn't care though. At the moment, Carter was too focused on figuring himself out. There was no reason to run around divulging information to people he didn't know.

The boss bit was strange. It was probably done to give off a certain impression to Ms. Del Amorio. One he suggested. Still, the small group he tended to work with never called him that before--even when he was basically calling the shots. Mitch didn't say anything about it or talk much until the other made it out of the building. That's when he directed him over to a certain area. One which was out of sight. "Hold the phone out." He said without bothering to explain. It didn't really matter how as long as it was out of the man's pocket. Things were just a bit easier that way. When Carter did what he was told the same strange buzzing sensation came from the phone once more.

A moment later, Mitch seemed to appear out of nowhere. Walking out from behind some foliage. "I'll take that~" He said with a smile as he retrieved the phone from Carter's hand. "Let's walk. We are being picked up a little further down." The pink-eyed lackey turned to walk in a particular direction. He was wearing normal clothes. Nothing like the picture he sent through the phone. "What did you think?" He was asking what the man thought about the place and the little mission they just completed.

It wasn't too long before they were settled into a vehicle and on their way. That's when Mitch spoke about something a bit more normal. "Aah," he started in a tired tone, "I just want to go back and relax. Eat some food." There was a slight pause before he continued. "Wait. There better be some left." Pink orbs shifted to look at Carter for the first time since he started talking. "What about you? What are you going to do for the rest of the day?" Mitch was very much acting like normal, but perhaps a little subdued. It wasn't as if he was in someone's space all the time anyway.

                                  Location: A car with Carter.

▪Thoughts: Did I accomplish what I needed to do?II▫Where: The Mountains [New Hope Orphanage]II ▫With Who: Myself & MitchII ▪Wearing: Blue-collar shirt [shown in picture] with black pantsII

When directed towards a particular direction, no questions were asked despite an innate desire to judge the male’s choice. Rose colored lenses shifted around the area. Ears were quite intent on listening for anything that may indicate if they were being watched or followed. Save for a few spurts of gossip here and there, nothing noteworthy was mentioned. The cell was held out as an undoubtedly familiar face came popping out into his plane of existence. Mitch looked like he didn’t change in the slightest, save for throwing away the gaudy outfit they wore in that one picture. The throwaway phone was swiped out of his hands and directed to walk in a certain direction. He followed quietly unless a question was directed towards him, which one was. ”It was what someone might suspect if this was a scene from a movie.”. Carter glanced back at the orphanage, recollecting what he had seen and heard while there. ”Were we able to successfully complete the assignment?” He finally casted his gaze onto the fuschia eyed man as a car came into his field of vision.

Seating in the car, both parties seemed to relax a bit. The crimson haired man shifted into his seat and allowed himself to sink a bit into the cushion. Eyes closed as he rested for a little bit as Mitch spoke. He listened in to the whispers of the interior of the vehicle. A single orb cracked open as a question about his day was thrown his way. That saffron lense looked up to the roof of the car as he contemplated. ”Walk around the city, listen in on conversations, try to find pieces of my past; the usual.” The man replied in a somewhat bored manner.
