The scruffy raven sat silently on the peak of a large rock. His wings ruffled, an annoyed huft to himself, the grumpy Judeau tucked his head near one wing. Why had he ever agreed to this? He did not trust mortals, yet he had agreed to stay with Ciro, to watch over him as Ngaule goddess of survival had asked. Hmph, this was a bad idea.
He would keep his promise, Ngale would know if he did not, but he was NOT watching that. Ciro could seduce women on his own thank you very much! Judeau wanted nothing to do with activities Ciro was currently involved in.
At least it was quiet here, no annoying little bird not sisters to annoy him with their annoying chatter and stomping around. He rolled his eyes at the memory grumbling to himself, unaware for the moment of the creature stalking him.

The raven raised his head suddenly, the sound of moving catching his attention. A sharp caw, a flurry of feathers as the lion pounced, the raven reaching for the sky to escape, losing several feathers to the lion's strike. Images of the past flashed through his mind, a purple lioness, a strike from behind, a betrayal cutting far deeper than the scars.
Judeau was different than he had been then, he was not the innocent child he had once been. Anger, he would not go down without a fight. An angry caw, Judeau ignored the pain in his wing, eyes narrowed at the lion. No, not again, not to another mortal!
"Stay away from me!"
There was as much fear as anger in the raven's voice, snapping at the lion with a razor sharp beak.

Ciro had enjoyed himself, even if his time with the lovely thrall was cut short. They could only withstand so much time before their stamina gave out. Not that Ciro blamed them, with the famine still going on, he was lucky to get any tail within the pride lands at all.
He was heading back towards his raven companion, when the sound of commotion hit his ears. What?
Ciro's eyes narrowed as he quickened his pace.
Kristanf looked down at his paw, grasping at a few loose feathers in his paw. Bah! The lion snarled, Why don't you fly away little birdie?" his pale eyes glared towards the raven. His paw was raising to swipe at the avian again.
"Kristanf stop!" Ciro shouted from the distance.
It was a mere moment distraction. The Reaver who earned his title from the Captain had disrupted his first meal of bird when he ended up thralling out the falcon instead of consuming her. He wouldn't let him do the same with this one! With a raised lip, Kristanf went to pounce on the angry raven.
Damn it Ciro cursed, galloping towards the paler male. Hang on, Judeau

Judeau took several steps backward, trying to put distance between himself at the lion. He should have flown, his mind was screaming at him to leave the ground, but fear of the lion hovering over him had kept him pinned to the ground. If he could just get a few steps away, he could escape.
His eyes closed a brief moment, shaking his head to clear the memories. It was as if that day were happening all over again and the god of penance was finding himself in the same panic all over again.
"Ciro!"
It was only a moment, but it was enough to find his wings. Emboldened by the presence of the familiar dark lion, the raven spread his wings, taking to the air. Sharp talons lashed out, striking a his attacker, ears, eyes, whatever he could reach. Maybe if he could blind the lion, even temporarily, it would be enough to escape to Ciro's side.

(even hit / odd miss)
Ciro watched as Judeau took flight, striking at the reaver. The movement did not cause the male to slow his step, instead, the opposite. Ciro sped up, golden eyes watching as a talon hit it's eye target. The rest, Ciro would do. The male found himself ramming into his former ward.
"I said STOP." He snarled, knocking the male to the ground. He was heaving, but stood tall, protective over his avian. He stole a glance towards the gray raven, making sure he was not injured. Maybe a few scrapes, and lost feathers, but otherwise okay? Ciro shook his head, eyeing Kristanf who was holding his eye.
"What the hell?!" Kristanf growled from the ground. "******** bird." He snarled, slowly rising to his feet, his front paw dropped to reveal blood trickling from his injured eye.
"He is mine. You want to hurt him, you will come through me first." Ciro growled, motioning for Judeau to come closer to him. He didn't think Kristanf was stupid enough to fight more, but just in case, the captain would be ready. "Go home Kristanf. Get that looked at before you lose complete vision in it. Next time, he will take it out." Ciro threatened.

Judeau did not hesitate, quickly seizing the moment to fly to Ciro's side, ducking under the dark lion to escape from any further attack. Some guardian he had turned out to be, in the end it was Ciro that had protected him. Judeau did not want to be that scared little godling anymore!
A glare, Judeau dared to step from his hiding, cawing fiercey at Kristanf. There was something more to that lion, something far darker than what had just happened, something Judeau did not like. He was going to have to keep an eye out for that one, something told him it would not be the last he saw of him.
A flutter of wings, Judeau flew from the ground to settle on Ciro's shoulder, then hopping to sit on top of his head. There was satisfaction in the smirk on his beak, he had drawn blood, silently he hoped Kristanf lost that eye.
"Next time I'll make sure you never see again."
Seemed Judeau was suddenly feeling braver with Ciro at his side.

Judeau watched the red-headed lion retreat, unwilling to let his guard down until his attacker was out of sight. It was not until the other was gone that the raven at last allowed himself to relax. Suddenly he was very aware of his racing heartbeat, his body shaking with the release of adrenaline.
"I would keep an eye on that one."
Deep breaths Judeau, it's over now, the danger was gone for now. It was several moments before the raven steadied himself enough to check his wings, spreading the appendages to search for injury where the lion had struck, flexing them to assure himself they still worked.
"A few feathers lost, but otherwise undamaged."
The raven hopped from Ciro's head, settling on to the lion's back. Judeau shrank against himself, burrowing into the lion's mane. Twice a mortal had tried to murder him, twice they had failed, he was convinced more than ever that no mortal could ever be trusted. Next time he would not be so foolish, he would not be caught unaware again, and he was never ever pearching so close to the ground ever again.
"Agreed."
But maybe, just maybe, Ciro was different from other mortals. And for a moment at least, Judeau found himself willing to consider trusting him.
