A letter arrives in your mailbox, bearing your name. It invites you to the Court, to a specific room called the Warg's Library, for a meeting regarding your new responsibilities. The portal, it says, will open at precisely 10am on Thursday morning.

Once you arrive at the Court, Noel and Noah--still beefcakey and hot--direct you to what appears to be a massive university library. There are shelves and shelves of magical artifacts, books and more, and standing among them all is Silk, chin raised, dark hair swept back from her forehead.

The idea of a library, one for the wargs, is kind of an amazing thing. It is even moreso in person after they go through the portal and are directed to it.

Nasir does his best to not get distracted by it, lured off to the sides and various books, and instead gives Silk a polite nod of greeting when he catches sight of her.

Not that Wil doesn't get a 'isn't this kind of cool look'.

Wil never had a strict schedule so the timing of the meeting was fine for him. He was, as always, carting his bag around (because who knew what you could need) but immediately simply stared and craned his head as they entered the new space.

It was pretty awesome and Nasir got a grin. The urge to browse was too strong to resist but he did wave to Silk regardless.

Theo knew there had to have been changes after the sigil and charter and all of that, but beyond abruptly losing most of his ability to mentally interact with Toto and regaining it just as unexpectedly, he hadn't known exactly where to look for them. He hadn't thought to go to Town Hall on the other side, and he certainly hadn't seen this place.

It was ******** amazing.

Almost immediately he wandered away from the gathering group, squinting at shelves and pointing things out to his skunk, who clearly didn't understand but was still happy to be here. Toto rested on Theo's forearm, his legs splayed two to each side like a floppy toy.

Horace had resisted the urge to stay and chat with Fabio 1 and Fabio 2; it would be bad form to be late to the meeting. He'd stepped out of work for this, and still wore his black suit and lavender tie. He also wore black gloves, which Nugget hated. In fact, possibly the only unconventional thing about his appearance was the bat - even his hair was parted differently and pulled back to obscure his undercut. Horace was the model of propriety. He kind of had to be, as an apprentice funeral director.

He'd been to the library before, presumptuously laying claim to his own little spot which Nugget now flew to. It was too bright, he informed Horace grumpily. Horace obligingly flicked the lights off in the smaller room before drifting out back among the books. Hello, Silk he beamed over at the fetch, feeling like calling out to her aloud might be rude. He did wave, however, before catching sight of Theo.

"Hi, Theo - right?" He sort of whispered. "So the skunk was magical, after all?"

The first thought that struck Leila's mind upon entering was how much Eve would have liked it here. It felt like working for a university with a collection again, with the massive array of books and artifacts and stuff. Biscuit wasn't as interested in such things, being a bird, but followed Leila dutifully closer to the middle of the room where Silk and the others were gathering.

He turned a little distractedly, having been staring at a book as hard as one could without actually touching it, though when he saw who it was, Theo's face went from confused to 'hey, bro' fairly quickly. The outfit was a little weird, but it was that same guy.

"Horace, hey," he quietly replied. "Yeah, this is Toto. He's not so bad." Theo smiled and scratched at the skunk's chin. "How's your bat?"

"Hey, Toto," Horace said, wiggling his fingers at the skunk. It was strangely cute. Then again, Nugget was super super cute and he knew some would disagree with his assessment. "Nugget is... grumpy right now. He's off in one of the darker rooms, but I figure he'll get lonely soon and pop out."

He glanced at the shelves. "Were you looking at anything in particular? If the meeting wasn't going to start soon, I'd say grab one for reading."

The Warg's Library. America slipped into the room with a quiet greeting for Silk and the other Warg's, but the girl was mostly held rapt by the room, and more specifically its name.

The Warg's Library.

On her shoulder, Mr. Bitterberry gave a quiet, curious sound as he considered which corner he was going to make His.

Toto perked up in response to his name, rrring a little at Horace's friendly tone.

"Ah, yeah. That makes sense." He glanced at the books again. "I don't really know where to start, to be honest. It feels like I shouldn't touch them. Maybe after... whatever this is."

Horace got an approving nod and a warm smile from Silk. Whether that was simply her way of checking in on those she favored or acknowledgement of his formal dress wasn't clear.

"Welcome to the library," said Silk. Her voice carried. "You're here because I have finished reading the Court's new Charter, and there have been several changes to your duties, in that they are now laid out clearly according to the wishes of both yourselves and the others who lent their power to the recreation of the Charter.

"The best description you previously had to go off of was 'spies and watchers'. You are still watchers; you watch the Veil and the otherworld, ensuring nothing that threatens your side of the veil escapes to cause harm. The animal familiars to which you have bonded are your main tool for this purpose, but they also are a living indicator of your enhanced ability to scry. These artifacts here along the walls are a collection of scrying materials and confiscated items which the Court had acquired over the years, things which are either useful to you or judged too dangerous to be allowed out into the world. They are indicated by the bronze plates beneath them which they are, and how safe they are to handle.

"Once you have scryed or spotted a potential threat, you will contact the moonwalkers. They will investigate, and if the threat has merit, it will be contained by them. If there has been harm done, the case will be referred to the nobility, who are your advocates among the society of this world. They speak for you before the Judges, who are the arbiters of justice here, chosen by the magic itself for their knowledge of magic."

She pulled a book from within her coat, checked something about partway through it.

"If you feel you cannot complete these tasks, it is possible for your ability to warg to be taken from you. However, you will lose both your familiar and any ability to scry you may have had. These powers will not come back to you; they are intrinsically tied to your ability to warg with your familiar. Your duties are what maintains your magic now, bleeding off what would have been skimmed away through the Spinel Lady and the Prideful One. Failure to complete your duties will destabilize your powers and eventually, shatter your magical core."

She closed the book.

"These materials are yours to use. You may claim the carrels as your own; the carrels are small rooms set off from the main library, and may be filled with artifacts you are using or evaluating, as well as information about people and beings you are watching. According to the new Charter, you should take on at least one task per month to prevent the decay of your powers.

"Are there any questions?"

"It's like a survey," Leila observed. "Combined with security detail, I mean..." That was fine, it fit pretty well into some of her lived experience for once. "Is there historical data available in this library, then? Of past magical activity, othercreature behavior patterns, stuff like that." She was fine working from scratch if they had to, but having a record to compare her observations to would be easier.

"I assume so," said Silk. "I haven't gone through and categorized it all yet. That's something that I'll need more hands to do, so please take nothing from the library until I let you know it's alright. It can go in the carrels, but don't remove it entirely." She tapped her lower lip. "I would also keep in mind... all of you recently uprooted the entire world in which we magical beings live. None of us are acting as we usually would have before, because the world which we reflect has changed in a massive, indelible way. I'm not sure that past recordings of otherbeing activity will be very helpful to you."

This was kind of what Nasir and Ollie had talked about - about the wargs and the moonwalkers taking more active roles because they had uprooted the Nobles from being the ruling class.

"... that means," Nasir spoke up, "that we should be on the lookout for changes. Make sure that everything is alright with the magic and the beings that populate this world." His fingers rested against Trouble's fur briefly as the squirrel settled upon his shoulder.

"What about the spiritbond?" he asked, as this seemed all fairly straight forward so far. "Is that something that is back now?"

"I've not the slightest idea," said Silk. "It wasn't mentioned in the Charter bylaws as anything except 'an option, consisting of moonwalker and warg duties, available to those who doggedly pursue it'. So I assume so."
