a mysterious letter
Several days after the conference comes a mysterious letter, delivered on a torrentially rainy day. Visitors, differentiated and undifferentiated alike, discover the strangely boring envelopes tucked into their doorjamb. They are addressed in a neat, flowing hand to the visitor by name, though the address is formatted oddly. The paper tears easily open, and inside on a sheet of standard college-ruled notebook paper is a greeting.

          Hello, stranger!

I am the fetch Odal. Some call me the Vintner. Some of you partook of my handiwork at the conference which was arranged by my friend, Silk. At this conference, it was agreed that an ancient Charter be destroyed. We fetches have reached out to the most knowledgeable among us and we have arranged for instructions to be provided to you in the form of this letter. It is your duty to, should you wish to participate, acquire these items. This will ensure that you can destroy our Charter and recreate one in your chosen form.

Please acquire these pieces by June 17th of your human world's time. We will cast the destruction and recreation at the same time, concurrently, on the last quarter of the waning moon.

          Your dear friend,
          Odal the Vintner

Attached is a second sheet of paper.

        For Both Castings
        Please acquire two of each.
      • An item attuned to elemental fire, to ensure the purification of the space in which we will cast
      • An item attuned to elemental earth, to ensure the protection of the space in which we will cast from ill intentions
      • An item attuned to elemental air, to grant the current caster of the spell the vitality to breathe
      • An item attuned to elemental water, to sustain the casters during the spell

        For Destruction
      • The original Charter
      • As many of the original signatories as can be acquired
      • A method of destruction

        For Renewal
      • A list of the desired traits within the casting
      • A frame upon which to set these traits
      • A method for demonstrating your consent
      • A method to tie your power to the frame
      • A group to cast the Charter itself

      There are no further pages.

how to collect these items icly
In order to attain the "best end" of the fifth meta (a successful, positive recreation of the Charter in which all NPCs and players involved live) every item in the post above must be acquired. How do you acquire them? Simple: Fulfill the requirements listed for each item below and post in this thread that your character has acquired the item.

      How will this work?
    • Pair up with another player and pick an item. The two of you together are responsible for fulfilling the requirements for that item.
    • You may choose to involve more characters in a claim than are required, but you may not choose to involve fewer. If your quest requires four characters, you must have at least four characters.
    • You may only claim one item quest at a time. Once that item quest is complete, you may move on and choose another one.
    • You must fulfill these requirements by June 17th at 12PM PDT.
    • Should you fail to complete these requirements, that item will not be acquired.
    • All items must be acquired to get the "best end".
    • RPs with GMs (if not specifically required as part of the quest) will not count towards the requirements for attaining the item.
    • RPs done to meet these requirements must be completed and at least 450 words long, total. So both players should aim for at least 225 words.
    • Art may, as per usual, be swapped for RPs. Swaps run at the usual rate.
    • Each item acquired will either count as an event credit for the purposes of growth OR as the RP point value. Some items will be worth more event credits.

quests
Some items are already acquired or will be acquired by the end date. The original Charter is already in Shiloh's possession; the consent of the original casters will be acquired through the current Ezra RP chain. The group to cast the charter is kind of already formed whoops.

There are two different possible dice mechanics you may need to use in your process. One is for item attunement; the other is for method testing.

      Quote:
      item creation mechanic
Players must roll 1d10 in each post where they attempt to create their attuned item. The d10 determines the success or failure of their attempt. Four successes are required to create the item; each post must be filled out.

      roll results
1-- A success! Your item has taken a little of your desired trait into itself.
2-- A failure. You have blown up one of your less expensive reagents and caused yourself minor damage.
3-- A failure. Your item has proven resistant to one of your reagents; you will need more power or more reagent to make it work.
4-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
5-- A failure. Your item has cracked, and must be repaired.
6-- A failure. You have blown up one of your most expensive reagents and done yourself moderate damage. The reagent must be replaced.
7-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
8-- A failure. You pushed too hard, and the item rejected your attempt to imbue it with its traits.
9-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
10-- A failure. You didn't push hard enough, and have given yourself a headache.

      Quote:
      method testing
Players must roll 1d4 in each post where they test their method of casting. There are three testing stages; you must achieve two successes in each stage to prove your method works for the casting. Each post must be filled out before your method test can be turned in.

      Stage One: Concept
In this stage your characters are working with a smaller version of their method to a smaller purpose, such as heating a pot of water or causing someone to float.
1-- A success! Your casting method has proven viable in this small test.
2-- A failure. You did not generate enough power to achieve your test goal.
3-- A failure. Your chosen reagent was not sturdy enough to channel the power and was destroyed.
4-- A failure. There was a large flaw in your casting that prevented you from succeeding.

      Stage Two: Prototype
In this stage, your characters are attempting to cast a moderate spell using your method of casting; a moderate spell is something like causing a flower to grow quickly or healing a minor wound.
1-- A failure. Your casting method did not generate enough power; you must adjust your reagents.
2-- A success! Your casting method has proven viable in this larger test.
3-- A failure. Your chosen focal point was not sturdy enough to channel your power and was destroyed, causing you minimal harm.
4-- A failure. There was a small flaw in your casting which must be adjusted before you can succeed.

      Stage Three: Final
In this stage, your characters are attempting to cast a large spell using your method of casting. A large spell is something like weather manipulation, teleportation, etc.
1-- A failure. You didn't generate enough power; the flaw was not with your spell.
2-- A failure. Your chosen focal point wasn't sturdy enough to channel your power and was destroyed, causing you moderate harm.
3-- A failure. You blew up your reagents on accident, and must acquire more.
4-- A success! You're ready to use this method of casting in the recreation of hte Charter.

im not sure how 2 word this so bare with me

if group A wants to do "A METHOD FOR BINDING POWER TO THE FRAME" and group B also wanted to do "A METHOD FOR BINDING POWER TO THE FRAME", could both "quests" run concurrently? Similarly, once a quest has been completed by a group, is the quest considered finished in the capacity that it cannot be completed by anyone else?

I'm assuming this is a first come first serve but I'm asking anyway just to make sure! Wanna make sure everyone can get the most bang for their buck as far as snapping up these great event cred deals go :9

SO:

If a task says it will count as an event credit (or two or twelve, whatever XD), do the RPs that help meet those requirements fall under 'event' RPs in that they can't be used for anything else?

And for ones that don't count as event credits, can those RPs be used for other things (like towards growth, bonus powers, enchanting objects, etcetc)?

Quests can only be completed once unless they're item creation quests (in which case, twice). It's first come, first serve, but there's twelve quests, so I don't think anyone will have a hard time grabbing one. :> The ones which have been made worth 2 event credits are generally quests that I believe will take a longer time.

Any of the quests can be counted as event credit. You choose when you've completed your quest if you're counting it as event credit or RP credit, so if you decide that your quest is an event credit, then yes, like event RPs they cannot be used towards anything else.

So say you're trying to do A METHOD OF DESTRUCTION. You can count it as an event and get two event credits, but none of those 6 RPs will be able to be used for growth or for bonus powers, etc. Or you can count it as RPs, and get 6 RPs towards growth or for bonus powers. Either way's a great deal, because these RPs have had their word count requirements cut in half.
