The Ruins of Alph are located in Johto, with entrances to the south and west of Violet City. The ruins are filled with Unown once any one of four slide puzzles inside the chambers have been activated. The name may come from the first four letters of "alphabet," which the Unown inside represent.

Entering one of the caves scattered across the ruins, Scarlett was struck with a sense of familiarity. The walls were carved in such a similar fashion to the ruins in Sinnoh that there could be no mistaking that this was another ancient temple that housed unown, but Scarlett sensed no lingering presence as she did in the Soleceon Ruins. This particular room was quite empty aside from the display near the center, roped off to indicate tourists were not to mess with it, and yet no one was around to guard the display. Scarlett smirked and moved closer to take a look. It seemed to be broken fragments of a stone tablet of some kind, depicting something indecipherable given the jumble of fragments the picture was currently in. Still, Scarlett was inclined to attempt the puzzle, if only to see the headlines on the news about how the puzzle was mysteriously solved upon the return of whoever was supposed to be watching the place. "Er.... Cap, I don't think you're supposed to be messin' with that thing." Vandal commented with a confused expression. "I'm an archeologist. Ifn anyone in this damn place should be messin' with an artifact, it's me." She defended, arranging a few of the pieces on the edges. As she worked, Vandal began to see the picture slowly forming, and Scarlett grew more confident in her movements as she recognized what she was piecing together. "What is that...?" Vandal asked. "It's a kabuto, an ancient sea floor dwelling pokemon. I happen to have one, but they're rare and usually found as fossils." She explained, putting the last piece into place.

As Scarlett pieced the tablet back together, the room began to shudder, and soon the floor beneath Scarlett and Vandal fell through. Scarlett had already nearly fallen through a floor once today, so she certainly hadn't been expecting to fall again, certainly not when putting together a tablet, but after recovering from her collapse, Scarlett looked around and found that they were on an even lower level where unown were now coming to inspect them. Perhaps this was a good thing. After all, the unown in Soleceon had blocked her out, and Scarlett still needed a few letters to complete her collection. She didn't really mind if some were from Soleceon and some were from the Ruins of Alph, as long as she had a complete collection.

As Scarlett's thoughts flickered across the forefront of her mind, the unown were quick to pick up on her plans and what she had been doing to their kind in the Soleceon Ruins. Such an intrusion would not stand, and the psychic types quickly came together, chanting and lifting both Scarlett and Vandal up into the air. Scarlett struggled, waving her arms about in an attempt to control her movements, but the unown wouldn't give her an inch, and soon they were teleported outside of the ruins once more.

After taking a little more time to rest and talk, Zero set out with his new Legendary pokemon, flying off back towards Johto. Apparently, the ruins he'd visited briefly during the egg hunt was Scathach's intended destination, before she got hounded by the mysterious group of assailants and sidetracked quite horribly. "So, what were you looking into at the ruins?" The young man asked, once they were well on their way. He was positioned on the Rayquaza's head, right on the top of her head, with one knee down and at least one hand bracing himself against the dragon's shimmering scales. Nova was riding a little further back, right at the start of what would be considered the neck.
"Those little ones have started to bundle together again," Scathach replied, seemingly unaffected by the extra weight on her. "Those which resemble some of your script. What do you call them again?"
"Unown?"
"Ah, yes, that was it... Apologies, it has been quite some time since I last dealt with the world of you humans so directly. I've spent much time guarding the skies, my memory of the earth below can be a bit fuzzy..." The serpent mumbled, resisting the urge to shake her head as she got back on track. "At any rate... The Unown are not noteworthy on their own, or even in small numbers. However, their... unique properties cause problems whenever they bunch together so densely."
Scathach suddenly dipped, partially descending as they flew. Zero lowered himself a bit as they dropped, before returning to his initial position once they leveled out again. "And so you intended to look into the group gathering in the ruins? I was under the impression that most of it was underground, how exactly did you plan on getting in?"
"Well, I didn't plan on investigating personally." There was a sudden, sharp turn, as the dragon snapped to the side to avoid an unexpected bird flying in their path. "Typically, they're kept in check by whoever presides over the area, but the distortions reached even me for a moment. I only ever intended to speak with the... 'other Legends', who would be better suited to the task. Zero hummed understandedly, figuring he got the general idea of what she meant. Probably explains why she was low enough to the ground to be fought, he thought, as they drew closer and closer to the Ruins of Alph.
By the time they finally landed, Scathach gave him the general idea of what they needed to do. Quite simply, it was just a matter of battling enough of the Unown until they dispersed a bit. Catching a couple dozen along the way to completely remove them from the group as well. He made note to Nova to keep track of which of the strange psychics he'll have caught while returning Scathach, moving to descend into the depths with the Mega Gardevoir, and the Darkrai in his shadow.

As Zero made his descent into the ruins, once he'd reached the deeper levels, he was set upon almost immediately by the Unown within. The first of the small psychics came rushing towards him, preparing an attack of some kind. But unfortunately, the being in his shadow was much faster, making an Ominous Wind that broke its charge and caused it to faint instantly. He sighed a bit, admittedly a little relieved that the individuals wouldn't be much of a problem, and threw a pokeball at the cave dweller before moving on.

Since he didn't really need to give much input on the fights, Zero just let Nevermoor take care of the ones that came close. Her attacks blew them away in one swing, so all he'd have to do is catch them after they go down and move on. "Seems like someone's having fun," a voice told him. He glanced to his side to see that it was just Yin, after having popped out of her ball and taken a seat on his shoulder.

While wandering aimlessly through the old ruins, the small fox on Zero's shoulder watched as the young trainer defeated more of the strange psychic-types. Yin dismounted when he threw another pokeball, watching as it dragged the Unown inside, and then disappeared into a bright light after it was caught. Musing in her head, the little Zorua's appearance shifted and distorted, catching Nova's gaze as she changed into a more human form.
She took on the appearance of a young girl, shorter than Zero, with a head of black hair, short in the front but coming together in a long ponytail that was draped over one shoulder. Her outfit seemed to be a blend between a wintery jacket and a sweater, with thick black boots and several straps and pouches running across her waist and a leg. The appearance didn't resemble anyone they knew, perhaps it was a previous owner? The young man didn't seem to particularly care, hearing the illusion take shape but not stopping to look at Yin's new appearance until she started to walk in front of him, a few empty pokeballs in her hand. "You won't mind me trying this whole 'trainer' deal, will you." He heard her snicker at the idea, but let her do as she pleased.

Since Yin seemed to want to play the Trainer for a bit, Zero lagged slightly as she took the lead. The entire ruins were essentially covered in harsh shadows and dim lighting, so the Darkrai doing the fighting could essentially be anywhere in the long corridors she wanted to be, blowing a terrible rush of air towards their opponents. The Zorua was quick to capture the next one once it was down, the ball snapping shut with a soft "click".

While Yin and Nevermoor dealt with the combatants, Zero had time to simply observe their surroundings. From what he knew of the ruins, it was by and large just a collection of straight hallways that descended a certain number of floors, in a very clear pattern. Yet, now that he was in the depths, it seemed far bigger on the inside. More labyrinthine with winding hallways and a variety of open spaces where halls each ended off at. He wouldn't really call them rooms, just spaces where different paths needed to connect. A result of the "distortions" Scathach talked about, he guessed, but with Nova he wouldn't have to worry too much of getting lost and unable to escape.

Eventually deciding which hall to finally go down, Zero continued to wander about in the ancient structure. Pictographs of the Unown lined the walls, telling some kind of story even simply detailing information. It was a little too dark for him to tell what it all read at a glance, especially with how abstracted some of the pokemon are compared to the letters they inspired.

Since he figured Delta had had quite enough of flying him places, Leon had Nova fly him to the Ruins of Alph, and she had a much more reasonable pace. The Noivern was quite interested in Nocturne, another fellow Noivern which was Isis' flying companion. It was very apparent that Nocturne did not want to play, however, so once they landed, Leon gave her a grateful pat on the snout before returning her, letting out Kai. Kai grumbled as if complaining about having been put in his ball. "Sorry buddy." he apologized to the gator, giving him a good rub on the back of his neck. He then let out Inari, who seemed extra excited somehow about the area they were now in. "Ready? I haven't been in here since i was a kid, heh."
