It's a quiet Saturday afternoon in Ashdown. The Saturday farmer's market at the local community college is in full bloom. Despite the winter cold the vendors and band have still made it outside and the market has been blessed with a sunny atmosphere, if not a bit chilly.

It's a relatively open area, publicly filled with a small, clustered crowd of people. Farmer's markets were always pleasant with the sound of soft indie music and murmuring families buying organic goods.

Chel sits in the center of it all, feet curled up to rest against her thighs. She sits at the base of a statue which is in the center of the square; some historical figure commemorating their founding the town or something airy like that. In a crowd, people don't notice her which is nice. Her eyes are tinged pink with a golden ring inside, deep black slits creasing the irises for pupils. Her power granted to her by All Seeing.

The farmer's market had become far more interesting than Dawson could have remembered--and yet also did remember at the same time. Double timeline bullshit really messed with his head. Nonetheless, the smells, sights, and sounds of the place lifted his spirits against the pitiless cold weather, and he rubbed his hands together over a hand warmer pack with a faint smile.

He...wasn't used to being able to afford the organic s**t, though. So he was agog at the available stock, a round and fairly out of place looking country man in fluffy, thick gear for the weather. Although maybe not so out of place: he was, after all, a park ranger apparently.

- - -

It wasn't too long after their exchange that Jack drove into the parking lot by the gathering. His dad in this timeline was very into being organic, apparently, so it was good timing that he knew someone would be there while he did the family shopping. God knew he wasn't exactly eager to be out and about, even though he liked the cold weather; he just didn't like people.

"Sup," he started to say before seeing the color of Chel's eyes. He frowned. "No nosebleeds this time?"

The weather wasn't completely awful so Shun decided to see if he could pick up anything nice at the farmer's market. With his hands in his pockets, he began to peruse the various stalls and the like. He didn't care too much about organic vs non organic things, but he could use some fresh produce in general to cook with at his apartment.

After a few purchases, he had a small bag of goods in hand. And it was then that he spotted Chel and Jack not far off, towards the center of the square.

Chel looked over to Jack, color not fading from her eyes as she blinked.

"Eh? Yeah." It wasn't like Chel to be so small with words, but she returned to gazing through the crowd. If she hadn't of spoken, it might have seemed like she hadn't noticed him at all.

Her eyes fell on Shun. Good aura about him; something more magic than she and Jack both. That one would be good too.

Her eyes looked elsewhere again.

Bundled up in a thick coat, wool gloves and his usual overly long scarf, Marcus was out buying his usual weekly ingredients. Including some broth teas he'd found from one vendor. Savory and spiced, they were perfect for this kind of weather. A puff of breath hanging in the air from the chill, he thanked the manager of the stall before moving to the next one. His canvas bag with the bright emblem of the local co-op starting to quickly fill out with his purchases.

He almost missed them. They blended into the crowd well enough, and still, he did his best these days to not intrude on the others who'd experienced the world from before- A smile and wave, Marcus hoped that they were doing well. Ever since the new sigil had been made so much had changed while at the same time, so much hadn't.

Shiloh never used to mind the cold (being born in Maine and all), except lately it had been more of a problem. Maybe it was the plants? Who knew. Either way, he was braving the chill with a myriad of coats and scarves and a wool beanie atop his head, blue eyes scanning over the goods laid out to him. Farmer's markets? Not really his scene, but he felt a little bad that he hadn't picked up anything for Jamie's parents at Christmas time. The original Shiloh of this time might have, but if he did he was damn good at hiding s**t, because Shiloh still hadn't found anything that had Mr and Mrs Delacroix's name on it.

But oh well. No one had really been mad, no feelings were left sour, but he was doing a good deed anyway. So the question was what to buy—and he eventually decided that fresh local honey or homemade jam would be good, because old people liked that sort of s**t, right? The s**t with organic labels? Shiloh didn't really care because he was fine with eating anything, "carcinogenic GMO hormones" or whatever the ******** included.

"What the ******** is mint jelly even used for." he asked as he looked over a tiny mason jar filled with the brim of, if he had to describe it, chunky green ectoplasm. Did people put this s**t on toast? Whatever, it looked fancy.

At least the gentle lull of music was nice. He was too intent to notice any familiar faces for the moment.

Hearing Shiloh's remark nearby, Shun glanced over and looked at the bright green jars of mint jelly. Slowly, he tilted his head, considering that question.

"Baking?" he suggested with a shrug. It wasn't really something he had thought about.

Though the voice was familiar, Shiloh still jumped at being addressed. Shun, at least, was someone he wasn't super wary about run ins with. "Baking?" He looked back towards the jar, eyebrows scrunched up. Did Jamie's parents like to bake? He had no ******** idea. They'd appreciate the gesture regardless.

"Still weird." He was fishing out his wallet though, full prepared to pay out the a** for s**t with a special label on it. Whatever. Supporting local economies and s**t was good right? So it didn't matter much.

"Y'know Kuroda, you don't seem like the farmer's market type." He glanced up with his hand half stuffed in his wallet, somewhat curious. He wasn't really the type for these sort of venues either, so...

Shun tilted his head at the comment, "Is there a certain type that frequents these?"

This was followed by a shrug.

"I needed groceries and this seemed as good of an opportunity as anything."

A large ham of a hand clasped down on Shiloh's shoulder. "Aw, buddy! Ya made it," Dawson said buoyantly. "Least you look the same...mostly..." As did the detective he vaguely remembered. "Mint jelly's a good spread, I hear. Or a topper. Kinda depends."

He tipped his cap to Shun, still vaguely anxious around authority figures despite his new life. "Afternoon, officer."

- - -

He frowned some more, and it permeated as he passed Marcus a wave back, if only because it had been (somewhat) aimed in his direction). Maybe Chel knew him better. "Hey you're supposed to be shopping for s**t with me," he reminded her, tempted to try snapping in her face. "You high or something?"

"Well yeah." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Hipsters. The bourgeoisie. People with so much money they had to forcibly pay people extra for something that came from next door rather than China. Shiloh finally fished out a messy handful of bills (most, if not all of them singles) and paid for a couple jars. Mint, blackberry, grape...

And then there was a hand at his shoulder and he almost jumped again (his flowers, actually, almost bloomed outwards protectively, but they didn't). Looking up, he relaxed at the sight of Daws. He remembered him. "Oh uh, yeah? Sup." He looked a little sheepish as he offered a lopsided grin. "I still dunno if I'd give it a try." He eyed the newly purchased jar of jelly a wary look.

Shun turned as he heard Daws approach them both. The comment he made was a bit peculiar. It did make him wonder if this was the Dawson he had briefly met or... well. One from the new world. If it were the latter, he hoped there wasn't any particular interactions that he should know about right now.

"Afternoon," he greeted quietly.

"Who is the purchase for then, Shiloh?"

"A lot or nothin', dependin'. Sounds like you got some kinda story too," he noted. Flowers weren't exactly the sort of thing he figured Shiloh would wear... "But hey, I'll try 'em with ya."

He might or might not have been subtly putting himself just ever so slightly between Shun and Shiloh, just in case.

- - -

It was a good thing he didn't have to mind groceries just yet. Jack got on his knees to be level with her. Normal instincts told him to leave people alone since it was easier, but here it was very different. The eyes were ominous.

"Do you want me to help you out of here?" he asked slowly.

This is ...

Chel collapsed off the side of the stone she'd been sitting on, clutching her arm. Her breathing got a lot harder and her eyes were dilating something fierce. Just what had she been holding in? What secrets did she hide?

Perfect.

What are you doing?

You can't get something for nothing, Chelsea.

She looked to Jack for only a pleading moment before closing her eyes, squeezing them shut. Blood began to trickle from her tattoo despite there being no abrasion. Blood held power, after all. Hers held quite a bit.

Don't- I'll do anything.

You've done enough.
