ffffff↬Phoebe was so proud of all the compliments her and Fireball were getting. "You're going to be awesome too, Maria!" Fireball was showing off his newfound height, even offering to pick his smaller friend up so they could get a taste of a new level. Phoebe laughed a little and smiled, "Its good to see the height difference isn't an issue with their friendship." She looked toward the dark haired boy and nodded, "I guess these battles will be Fireball and I's way to see just how strong he's gotten physically. Though, I hope our bond will be stronger than that. I was always taught its the bond a trainer and pokemon share that is the key to being any sort of team." Looking back towards Fireball, Phoebe smiled when he gave his own sort of thumbs up and a proud 'Char!' to her statement. Looking back to Maria, Phoebe held onto her bag's strap around her torso, "So how has Lillipup's training been? I bet she's going to be a tough challenge!"
She nodded to her fellow female with a smile, "Okay, great! Sorry, I didn't remember you joining so I thought I'd ask to be sure." Phoebe was about to say some more when the boy spoke. Her lips pursed and she held her tongue as Ichiro came up to them. Last thing she wanted was to risk upsetting her friend before his battle. She'd make sure this boy got what was coming to him later. After a moment, she realized Ichiro was talking to her. She turned her head to him and nodded, "I just evolved him actually. I think he even learned a new move too if I wrote the information down right," she trailed off. Her eyes looked back to the dark haired boy with a glare before moving back to her blonde friend's. She was too upset to talk much, not wanting to risk saying anything right now.
Phoebe was saved by the matches being called. Each pair were told to report to a certain room to wait before entering the stadium. She called Fireball back into his pokeball and looked toward Ichiro, telling him to stay determined during the battle and giving him a hug good luck, before leaving to the room. Once they were called out, she left the room and took her place. Looking towards Iris, she nodded her head to her classmate. Phoebe was still upset over that boy's words, and a part of her worried that'd effect how she'd battle. What if she was too aggressive? After a moment with her eyebrows furrowed, she smoothed her expression out and looked towards Iris again, "Uh, good luck and let's have some fun." Her thumb rubbed the side of Fireball's pokeball, she hoped she'd manage to keep her temper in check for the battle.
Iris looked at her device when she got a message. It was from Ichiro, asking to add in a friend. Iris was about to answer with a yes when the speakers annouced that the battles were going to start. Iris pouted her mope but she grinned and gathered up her stuff. She was definitely smiing and excitement started to run through her veins. This would be her first offical battle. Not a practice like at the club. A legit battle in a tournament. Taking a deep breath, she walked to where she needed to be. Apparently she would be going to designated spot with her opponent. It was already annouced so she wasn't surprised to see Phoebe waiting there as well.
Iris looked at Phoebe and waved. "Hey there Phoebe." Iris said politely. Opponent or not, she still was going to treat the girl as normally. "Yea, good luck to you too." Iris pumped her first up. "We'll have fun alright. I promise we'll give it our all and you better as well."

ffffff↬Seeing Iris so cheerful and good spirited about the battle helped Phoebe's mood to improve a little. On the screen with their names and pokemon displayed showed who would be going first. She got a wave of nervousness when she saw that she'd be the one to make the first move of the battle. Clutching Fireball's pokeball, she took one more deep breath before giving it a throw upwards, "Fireball, let's give this a go!"
With a proud 'Charmeleon!', he stood ready for his orders. Pheobe had never seen the pokemon Iris was using before and decided to quickly scan it. Iris had the type advantage in this match with her Ducklett. She'd have to remember to try not to use Ember in this match. "Right, Fireball, use Smokescreen on them!" The fire type took a deep breath before shooting out a large puff of smoke from his mouth towards the water type.
She was hoping the smoke would limit the Ducklett's vision as to make it harder for any water type moves, if it knew any at the moment, to hit Fireball. Her only worry now was if he could move out of the way of those attacks fast enough. He was much bigger now as a Charmeleon than as a Charmander. Pheobe hoped he wouldn't have too much of an issue.
As she waited for Iris to take her turn, Pheobe went over Fireball's moves in her head. Ember was out of the question, for now. She decided she'd save that for worse case scenario. If he got low on health, his Blaze ability would kick in and make that move stronger. That left Scratch and Dragon Rage. Dragon Rage was the new move Fireball had learned when he leveled up, and Phoebe could feel herself itching to see what it looked like. Perhaps that'd be the next move she'd make.

It seemed that Phoebe and her Charmeleon were first. Iris was surprised at the pokemon that had evolved since it was a Chamander last time the girl had seen the pokemon. "Let's go Ling." Iris said as her Ducklett was out and ready for battle. "Let's not get fooled by them." Iris could figure out that she and Ling had a type advantage against Phoebe and Fireball. However, she wasn't one to be cocky. Get foolish and she could cost Ling her battle. With that said, Iris was going to be ready for anything that came her way. Ling looked at the her opponents with a serious glare. It was her time to shine and no lizard was going to take away her moment of glory and praise.
"Get ready." Iris said as Phoebe mad her first move. The first move was kinda surprising as Phoebe had Fireball use smokescreen to decrease the accuracy of Ling's moves. Phoebe noticed the types as well. Iris and Ling coughed from the smokescreen. "Are you okay?" Iris said Ling who nodded her head. "Alright. We're really going to need to focus on this one." Iris pointed into the smoke. "Use Water Pulse." Iris said. It was a brand new move that Ling had learned as a result of the rare candies.
Ling flapped her wings as water formed around her and then into an orb around her bill. As the orb spiraled around and around, Ling released it with Fireball as the target.
ffffff↬Iris and her pokemon recovered from the attack and threw one of their own back at Phoebe and Fireball. He couldn't dodge the pulse of liquid that came at him and just did his best to block any from hitting his tail. She wiped a few bits of water that hit her from the attack off her cheek and gave her opponent a determined smile. Iris wasn't going to make this easy, but she was going to make sure both of them had fun doing this. Pheobe wanted to make sure she did the same for her.
Fireball looked to her for instructions and she nodded to him, "Use Dragon Rage," she said with confidence as she pointed to Ducklett. Fireball smirked and looked back towards his opponent. Opening his mouth wide, the ember on his tail started to grow as something started to form in his mouth. When the purple ball, of what Pheobe assumed was energy, was big enough, it shot towards Ducklett on a direct hit.
Pheobe couldn't stop herself from smiling at the awesome move Fireball had learned. Her only regret was she couldn't have seen it at a better angle so she could have sketched the moment. She had to snap out of it for now, though, this was no place to go into a daze. Looking towards Fireball, she spoke to him encouragingly, "Good job with that move, but we'll need to have you dodge those water attacks!" He nodded back to her with a 'Char!' of understanding before looking at his opponent to try and prepare for their next move.

Iris cheered as she watched her Pokemon's attack hit their opponent. It didn't knock them out but it definitely did some damage to that fire type pokemon. Iris jumped in glee as Ling posed as the move hit. Looking as if the ducklett knew the move would connect with her target. Iris didn't doubt her pokemon but she was happy for the luck that was in their favor. Iris looked at Phoebe. The green haired girl could see on her opponent's face determination not to lose this battle. However, Iris returned the type of smile as Phoebe and Fireball made their next move. As much as Ling tried to move around, the duck pokemon was unable to escape from the Dragon rage attack that hit Ling. The smile twisted into concern for her pokemon as Ling ruffled up her feather, similar to cleaning upself from the attack.
Iris thought over what attack to use next. They would be expecting another water move. And she didn't want to disappoint them at all if that was what they wanted from her. Who was she to tell them no? However, she wanted to mix it up and keep them on their toes around Iris and Ling. She wanted to make them know that even if her pokemon wasn't evolved, they were not going to be an easy battle to win.
"Are you ready Ling?" Iris asked her pokemon. "Use Wing Attack."
Ling's wing started to glow and become slightly larger in length. Ling flapped her wings for them moment before she made a running break through the smoke. Her aim was to swat at the pokemon, slapping the Charmeleon with her wings silly.
ffffff↬As Iris' Ducklett came towards Fireball, Phoebe rushed to send an order out, "Fireball, try to withstand it and hold your stance!" She had an idea from Ducklett's choice to come so close. She hoped that the water type wouldn't move from Fireball after the attack. If it did, Pheobe would need to rethink her next move.
She let out the breath she was holding, though Phoebe didn't realize she was even holding it. While Ducklett did some damage to Fireball, she was going to make sure that the favor was returned to her opponent. "Use Scratch, Fireball, then create some distance!" Fireball raised his arm up as his claws glowed softly. He was making use of his height advantage towards Ducklett by even raising up on his feet some. Suddenly, his arm came down and his claws struck Ducklett in the side before leaping back as Phoebe ordered.
The more room between them meant Fireball would have a few more seconds to dodge an attack made by Ducklett. Iris was doing great, and Phoebe hoped she was giving her a good battle despite the type disadvantage Fireball had against her pokemon. Looking towards Iris, she gave her a friendly competitive look, as if to let her know Phoebe was up to try and return anything she served up.
While Pheobe was still a bit worried about Fireball getting seriously hurt, she tried to focus on the battle at hand. She needed to trust Fireball, and that included how much he could take. He'd let her know when he was at his breaking point, and at that point she'd forfeit the match to prevent him from taking any more damage. Fireball came first to her, not some battle.
The wing attack had served the intended purpose of doing damage to the other Pokemon as Ling slapped Fireball across the face multiple times. If it wasn't for the glowing wings and experience with the move , Iris would have assumed that the Ducklett was using another move like Doubleslap. Now it was Fireball and Phoebe's turn to take the offense. Ling quickly reacted to the scratched as it did some damage to her. She quacked loudly as Fireball regrouped around Phoebe. Ling looked at her side's feathers. The some of the feather on her wing was shortened and looked even to the other side. That made her more furious as she jumped up and down, expressing her disdain for what had happened to her lovely and groomed feathers.
Iris watched as her pokemon went into a fit. At least from what I could tell, Ling wasn't seriously hurt that she couldn't continue the battle. However, she needed Ling's focus if she wanted her pokemon to win this battle. "Ling stop!" Iris said as she aimed to get the pokemon's attention. "It's okay, we can fix your feathers later but if you really want to get some payback... beat them in battle." The Ducklett looked at Iris as the mention of payback was brought up. She looked the sound of that. Ling looked at her opponents with a clear focus to win. "Now Ling use Water Sport." Iris said with a grin, "Since Phoebe and Fireball gave us room to perform."
Ling definitely liked the sound of that as she directed her toward the center of the ring and shot water from her mouth into the sky while flapping her wings.The water came down as rain that drenched the battleground but the appeal was the change in appearance. The water clung to Ling, making a veil that sparkled around her. Iris gave a smile to Phoebe that was starting to look a little competitive
ffffff↬Pheobe looked up from her pokemon and to the Ducklett to make sure it wasn't bleeding or anything serious from Scratch. The only serious damage it seemed to of done was to the water types OCD, as that side's feathers were a little shorter. Iris managed to calm it down some, however, with the idea of revenge towards Fireball.
Fireball rushed to cover his tail at the sound of the word 'water'. Ducklett's move made the liquid sprinkle down over the field, lowering any fire attacks. Phoebe would really have to use Ember as a last resort now. Fireball stood back up once the pitter patter had stopped and checked his tail. The ember on it was still glowing healthy, which was a relief to both him and his trainer.
"Use Dragon Rage one more time," she said to Fireball while pointing to Ducklett. His mouth opened once more as the familiar purple orb started to form in the gap. With his ember blazing, the energy ball shot off as a direct hit towards Ducklett. Fireball still kept his distance from the other pokemon, while trying not to lay his tail in any major wet areas from the Water Sport.
As she waited for Iris' attack, she debated on which move to use. Smokescreen would really be a waste of a move right now, as the battle seemed to be closing. Using Dragon Rage again just seemed cheap; Phoebe didn't care much for the trainers on TV who just used the same move over and over. That left Scratch, a move she's already used, and Ember, which might not be that powerful right now.

Iris was impressed with Ling this whole battle, win or lose. She was really working with Iris and putting effort into this battle. In fact, it made her happy. In the club, Iris had to work with Ling to even get her to battle before she just left the battleground or use attacks when Iris asked for her. She would only take one attack before she got angry and either went back to her pokeball or chased the other opponent or trainer around. Now here she was taking a second hit from a Dragon Rage like a trooper. Ling skidded back from the attack but otherwise looked ready to connect battling beside Iris.
"Good girl Ling." Iris said to her Ducklett as the pokemon ruffled up her feathers. Iris watched as they smoothed down from the water. This was really giving her an idea for her performance. Iris, unlike Phoebe, didn't need to think about her next move. "Let's use Water Pulse again, " Iris said as she looked at Phoebe with a smile on her face. "Let's show how far we've come together, Ling."
The Ducklett flapped her wings as the water orb appeared once more around her bill. The spiral sphere continued to grow in size and increase in speed. However. when it was shot out, it wasn't a sphere like before. Instead, the attack came out in the form of pulsing waves. Iris was surprised by the new look of the move. It was like how she could use Bebe's Fairy Wing in different ways. This battle was getting her excited.
ffffff↬Iris used another water attack against Fireball, and it looked like it was starting to wear him down. Pheobe worried if she should just call the match now and let Iris take the win. What changed her mind was the look Fireball gave her. He wanted to prove himself, to prove he could do this. She knew which move he was wanting to use, and now would be the time to use it.
With a nod and soft, encouraging smile to her pokemon, Pheobe called out the last order for the match, "Fireball, use Ember!" Taking a stance, Fireball looked towards the water type and opened his mouth. His ember on his tail was growing bigger and bigger as the ball of fire in his mouth grew. His Blaze ability was kicking in to make the move worthy of being the finisher. As the ball of fire shot out from his mouth, it had a fiery trail following it until it hit its target.
Regardless of the results of the battle, Pheobe was proud of her not so little Fireball. "You did great, Fireball! Remember that no matter what," she assured him. If they didn't win, she didn't want him to think that it was his fault. Fireball did amazing for his first real battle, and if he wanted to continue Phoebe would try to set up friendly matches for him to do. She wanted her pokemon happy, and if batting was how it'd make him smile, then she'd battle to his heart's content.

Iris watched at Fireball took the water pulse and seem to be worn out from the other attacks. So was Ling but she seemed to be fairing better than Fireball. Or maybe that was just a bias because she was Ling's trainer. Iris looked her opponents. Phoebe and Fireball seemed to be deciding something together. Iris could tell from the way that he was looking at his trainer. Iris looked back at Ling. "Are you ready for whatever they're going to throw at us?" Iris asked her pokemon. Ling looked back at Iris and gave her look that made Iris think that Ling was trying to tell her 'Don't need to make me twice about it'. Iris would have to agree with her as they looked back at their opponents. Iris was surprised when the next move called out was Ember. Phoebe must have something up her sleeve to be using that attack. Iris wanted to see what it was. What Iris saw did surprise.
Fireball's tail was burning stronger than just a moment ago. This had to be the fire type's ability in place. Iris had never seen it before so to see it was worth it when the Ember was released. It even had a tail now as it centered onto Ling. Iris would have been worried if this had been her other pokemon Bebe but thanks to being a water and using Water Sport, Iris felt more confident in how Ling with fare after that attack. The water that coated Ling's feathers started to steam up. "Let's make this count and use Water Pulse!"
Ling gathered the water from the field to make the sphere like last time. More and more water collected and formed together. If Fireball was going to go all out, so would she. She would make this Water Pulse so unforgettable, the Charmeleon would have dreams about it even when he was a Charizard! The orb was a little bigger than the last ones but it was ready to launch. Once it was released, the orb unleashed waves onto the Fire pokemon as the ducklett gave it her all.

The battle has been reviewed and a winner has been declared....the winner of this first round battle is..... Ling the Ducklett!
Here are the reason behind the decision.
Though Charmeleon is a powerful evolved Pokémon, the move set available to it did not allow this Pokémon to show its true strengths. Dragon Rage is a very strong move, doing a lot of damage. However, Charmeleon's weakness to water type attacks was to great for it to over come. Especially after Water Sport was used, lowering the effectiveness of Fire Type moves. Even with Charmeleon's Blaze ability, there was simply too much resistant for Charmeleon to overcome.
Ducklett had both type advantage and STAB boosts on its side. By employing Water Sport, Ducklett gave itself even more resistant to Fire Moves, not counting in the fact that the water type was already reducing fire damage by half.
The winner of the battle is Iris. This decision was not made easily and was discussed in length by all members of the Crew, who read over the posts and calculated the results both based on damage and type advantage. This decision in final but if either player has any questions, please feel free to PM the Captain. It was a very close match and highly enjoyable to read. Congratulations to our first winner of the tournament.
Yume, you may post one final time and may end the battle as the victor in whatever manner you wish, so long as it is not too insane. Do be reasonable about this. Once you have posted for Iris, there will be one final post from one of the Crew as Oliver to officially end the battle. Neither player is permitted to post anywhere else until Oliver has declared the winner and dismissed you. Congratulations to both players. Iris and Ling felt it after the water pulse hit. This was their moment to issue the final blow and win the battle. Iris wondered if Ling had the energy to finish off the battle. She was looking better than how Fireball was looking. "Ling." Iris said, "Do you have another water pulse in you?" Ling looked at Iris and shook her head. Iris didn't blame the pokemon. She had done so much already that she didn't want Ling to overexert herself. "Okay. Then lets us Wing Attack and end this." Iris suggested to Ling. Ling agreed as her wings started to glow like it did before. The flapping of her wings gave her some lift under her as she ran. She flapped her wings until they struck against Fireball and Ling landed on the other side.
Iris and Phoebe watched as Fireball and Ling stood there until the Charmeleon fell the ground of the field. The moment the fire type hit the ground, the crowd erupted in a cheer. Iris fell to her knees in surprise as it was just hitting now. She had won her first battle. Ling and Iris had won their first official battle together. She still couldn't believe as she smiled and stretched out her arms to Ling. The ducklett looked at Iris and ran to Iris. Once the pokemon was close, Iris embraced her pokemon. Both of them, very tired and very happy about the outcome of the battle. She would still love her pokemon if they had lost but winning was a great perk. Iris started to tear up before she looked at Phoebe and Fireball. Iris held her pokemon as she approached the two.
"That was amazing." Iris said. "Thank you. Thank you. Is Fireball okay? Can I get you anything?"
