Etsali glanced over shoulder, judging her distance from the high buildings and bright lights of New Hemisect City, and mentally compared it to her memory of just where her destination awaited. If she'd ever followed up on her grand plans to visit Vulpin often after the battle for Old Hemisect, it would have been easier to be sure that the little hut nestled so charmingly on the plains was his, but unfortunately she hadn't. Which, she guessed, was why she was here now anyway, to make up for that.
She had a much better feel for what being friends really meant now, after all, even if she did slip up sometimes still, and if anyone deserved a demonstration of that new knowledge, it was one of the first trolls she'd ever considered giving the title. She just hoped he wasn't busy or out somewhere else. Or mad at her for not visiting more? And also of course she was still hoping her mental map was right, because it would be pretty awkward if she'd gotten the wrong hive.
Well. Only one way to find out. Etsali adjusted her hat just so, made sure her scarf was settled, and then reached out to knock. "Hellooo, anybody home?"

Vulpin was tense. He nearly jumped from his spot, reclining on his sofa. The footsteps made him panic, but the knock made him audibly gasp. The gasp was harsh, through his teeth. Then, silently, he moved for the door, crouching to avoid making a sound. He thanked himself to be wearing socks, so that he tread softly as he made his way through the room.
He paused before the door, waiting, hoping that the knocker would leave. He pulled a dagger from his belt, running his thumb along the side. The tension was unbearable. It was to much. The voice startled him. Immediately, Vulpin thrust open the door and tackled Etsali in the abdomen, not even looking at her until he was certain he had her pinned. But when he did, he felt a pang of regret.
"Etsali?" There was a tone of worry, but it quickly shifted back into hostility. He couldn't trust her. She was just a childhood friend. Then again, she was the only friend he ever made. But still, that didn't mean anything. She met him as a royalist, and as far as he knew, that's what she was now.
"What are you doing here?" He barked, threatening her with his knife.
FIGHT!!
HP: 20/20
Vulpin hit for 5 damage!

For one small moment as she registered that the door was beginning to open, Etsali brightened, ready to offer a smile to whoever might be on the other side. But then there was a blur of motion, someone barreling into her, falling. The next thing she knew she was on her back, staring up at Vulpin with wide eyes as he pinned her down. Her mind couldn't quite make the connection to how she'd gone from one state to the next, why this was happening.
"Vulpin? I don't-" She tensed, flinching as he brandished his knife. She couldn't even pretend it wasn't him, because it obviously was, but what had she done to draw this kind of reaction? Could he really be this mad she hadn't visited? Or was visiting crossing some kind of boundary she hadn't known existed? Abruptly it occurred to her that she wouldn't have liked it if someone had shown up at her hive out of the blue either. She probably wouldn't have jumped anyone right out of the gate, well alright, Keeper would have, but still.
"I came looking for you!" She replied quickly, voice still tinged with confusion but increasingly defensive. "Is this how you say hello now?"

Etsali bared her teeth to match, hissing as his nails dug into her arm. It hurt a little, yeah, but in the long run it would have only been a mild irritation if, at the moment, it hadn't also served as further fuel for anger to begin to outweigh confusion. She'd thought they were friends, that they'd watch each other's backs when they could, but he was treating her like...like one of those rebels they'd fought! Did he really think someone out for his head would have waltzed up and knocked?
"Because I wanted to," she snapped back. "Because I thought that's what friends did!" For the first time, she really struggled, testing how securely he had her pinned and looking for any foothold to knock him away. "But fine, let me up and we'll do things your way!"

Kicked squarely in his jaw, Vulpin reeled back from atop Etsali. He backed up a few paces, wiping his mouth on his arm. Her words stung him almost more than the hit did, paralyzing him in his place for a short moment. But almost as quickly as he faltered, he fell back into an offensive stance.
"Don't play dumb with me, Etsali!" Vulpin spat, face twisted into an angry smirk. With a sleight of hand, he flung one of his daggers at the orangeblood. "You and I both know you're better than that." He hissed, planting his heels in the ground, anticipating her next move.
HP: 19/20
Vulpin hit for 4 damage!

The moment the kick connected and he pulled back, Etsali was already rolling away, putting more distance between them. Half-crouched, she reached down to pop open the knife pouch at her belt. Vulpin wasn't making much sense still, but he was obviously more interesting in fighting this out than talking it and she wasn't about to back down now that he'd gotten her riled. Even if it did hurt more than a little that this wasn't exactly how she'd planned on showing off the weapons she'd gotten since they'd last met.
With a frustrated sigh, she opened her mouth to shoot back a reply, but flinched back instead as a dagger streaked towards her, cutting deep into her left arm. She plucked it off the ground, gritting her teeth. "Doesn't matter what I say, does it? You've already got it all decided." She hurled the dagger right back at him with a snarl. She didn't really expect it to hit, though she hoped it would, if only because the weight was so much different from her own knives.
He'd be getting to know the difference for himself real soon, if she had any say in it.

Etsali flinched as Vulpin cried out, her offensive stance loosening as she hesitated. She hadn't meant to- Well, no, that was a lie. She'd done exactly what she'd meant to, and he'd been the one to egg her into doing it. He'd hurt her first, so it shouldn't have bothered her at all, but it kind of...still did. "Come on, Vulpin," she edged a little closer, very slowly and deliberately without threat, "we can still just sit down and talk this out, you know? I've got a little roll of bandages."

"Wait, don't-!" Etsali couldn't help a sympathetic grimace as he yanked the knife out, but there hadn't been any way to stop him. How was she supposed to even stop any of this? He already had another knife out, he still wasn't listening! With his leg hurt, she could probably take him down, and there was still another knife in her hand, she could easily- But no, that was the problem. She didn't want to hurt him.
"Vulpin, please." She lifted her hands, suppressing a wince as the cut on her arm pulled with the motion, and showed the weapon. Then she slowly put it back in the pouch at her waist, snapped it closed and reached for another bag entirely. "There see, no more knives, even." And God, this was stupid, he was just going to cut her again, but he couldn't call her a total liar now at least.
She presented the bandages with a flourish, started to move forward again, then paused. Sighing, she tossed them at him instead.
