The Skate Queen Roller Rink
Next Event:
N/A

This RP is open to all shop trolls. Trolls are not required to roll and may post as frequently as desired. Posts containing rolls must have at least two sentences of RP to be counted. If trolls interact with others and reach 500 words doing so, this RP can be counted for 1 RP point. Each roll free skating or playing an arcade game does not (and likely should not) need to be a new day or long passage of time in character, and can simply be a new action that the troll takes any time after the previous action.

Four Fronds is a popular tourist destination with plenty to see and do. Why wouldn't a skating rink be one of the many features this lovely lakeside city has to offer? The Skate Queen is a staple hangout spot for trolls who love bright lights, arcade games, and moving quickly on wheeled shoes.

Derby matches and other special events are occasionally hosted at this rink. The Skate Queen was briefly home to Four Frond's very own roller derby team, the Slayers, captained by Rasali Panaka. The team has since dissolved due to alleged "treasonous activity" by many members including Panaka herself, but skate rink sponsor Aandes LaMode has assured visitors that the rink is still a safe place for trolls to come hang out without threat of rebel incursion. Derby events between unofficial teams will still be held regularly at the location!

The rink is open to any trolls looking to go a few laps. The Skate Queen also features a concessions stand and arcade, complete with its own prize booth!

Dice Rolling Rules for Skating

Feel free to skate all you want! That's what you rented the skates for, right? You can roll to acquire skating points once per day. (Must include at least 50 words of RP to be counted!) Check the spoiler to see how you did. If you dare to dedicate yourself to become an official Skate Queen Hall-of-Famer, (aka rack up 250 points) quote the mule!

0-10 points - Newbie (Roll 1d4)
11-30 points - Casual (Roll 2d4)
31-90 points - Advanced (Roll 3d4)
91-250 points - Professional (Roll 4d4)

If you roll a 1
You bite it on the rink. Hard. Yikes.

Roll a 2
You spend more time on the floor than standing, but at least you technically move around the rink.

Roll a 3
You trip and fall a few times, but then again, who doesn't? You make eye-contact with a few similarly clumsy trolls and they give you smiles of solidarity.

Roll a 4
You make an accidental misstep and nearly wipe out. However, you catch yourself at the last second. What's more, you made it look like you did it on purpose! Nice save.

Roll a 5
You skate without incident, but also without fanfare. Maybe you should try moving away from the wall?

Roll a 6
Just as you're getting into your skating groove, some jerk cuts you off! Keep an eye out in case they decide to double-lap you.

Roll a 7
Despite being explicitly against the rules, a number of trolls insist on skating while holding hands in a group. It's annoying, but it also makes for a surprisingly good obstacle course. You can feel yourself improving already!

Roll an 8
You've found your rhythm, not just with the art of skating, but with the rink's poppy soundtrack. You have an impromptu dance break out on the floor.

Roll a 9
Round and round and round you go. You've lapped everyone on the rink at least once regardless of how much time they've spent out on the rink. Everyone definitely knows you're a regular.

Roll a 10
Whatever you're doing you appear to be doing it well. A struggling skater asks you for a couple of pointers and by the time you leave, they're not falling nearly as much!

Roll an 11
You spend the majority of your skating session speeding backwards between the other patrons. They seem a little put-off by your apparent recklessness, but you don't brush a single one of them, so who are they to complain?

Roll a 12
A younger skater timidly approaches you and asks you to sign one of their skates! Looks like you're moving up in the skating world!

Roll a 13
Have you ever attempted to do the splits before? Because you're doing it now. For better or worse, you look awesome.

Roll a 14
With a hop, skip, and a jump your skates leave the floor and you spin one, two, three--you lose count as your vision blurs, but by the time your feet return to the floor you've set a new axel spin record! Someone holds up a score card they made out of a napkin. It says 10.

Roll a 15
Whatever maneuver you just pulled has never been seen before at the Skate Queen Roller Rink. Several awestruck witnesses begin chanting your name and before you know it, you've just had a skate trick named after you.

Roll a 16
Your song comes on and the other skaters knowingly clear the center of the rink. It's your time to shine and you bust not one but several hellacious dance moves! The crowd goes wild!

The Skate Queen Slayers

Quote:
The Official Factions and Organizations Thread
The Skate Queen Slayers Roller Derby Team
Organization (Sport)
For rough-and-tumble trolls looking to show off their skating and shoving chops as part of a kick-a** team! We’re here to win!

Benefits: It’s fighting AND racing! Members are allowed to use the Skate Queen’s rink for sparring—so long as they’re on wheels! Rasali will teach your troll to skate if they don’t already know how. Plus you get discount nachos at the snack bar.
Drawbacks: Kids can’t participate in matches until they’re older! On a darker note, while the club itself is benign, Team Captain Rasali is a staunch rebel supporter. This probably won’t have any ramifications for her teammates, though. Probably.
Blacklist: Only rival skate teams!
Whitelist: No one so far!
Recruitment: Contact Rasali at the Skate Queen! Trolls of all ages and skating skills welcome!

Rasali Panaka - El Capitan
Aandes LaMode - Honorary Member

Lutrin Weesil
Voscil Torgny
Eostre Diazzi

Instead of a Skate Queen Slayers sign-up sheet on the wall, it's been sloppily pasted over by a generic "wanted" sign displaying grainy, poor quality images of Rasali Panaka, Forera Serpen, and Voscil Torgny.

Arcade Games

This part of the Skate Queen is even more vibrant and glittery than the main stage! The number of game cabinets is modest, but they're all old classics. Very old classics. Spend a few beetles in the arcade while you wait for your bruised tailbone to stop hurting!

Rolls must include at least 50 words worth of RP in order to count for prizes. Each game can be played once per day. Please indicate which game you're playing in your post!

User Image
Crane Game for Candy
You win some candy with every play! It's more of a vending machine than a game, but the crane is a pretty fun gimmick!

User Image
Crane Game for Toys
These weird plush toys seem designed to be difficult to grip with the machine's claw. Roll 1d20. If you get a 20, you get a... toy!

User Image
Skee-Ball

Roll the ball up the ramp and into one of the holes to win points! Don't you dare throw them. Roll 6d20 and add up your score. Anything between a 1 and a 5 is a gutter ball and is worth zero points. A score between 0-89 gets you 10 tickets, between 60-90 gets you 20 tickets, and a score between 91-120 is worth 30.

User Image
Asphalt Carnage IV
Current High Scores
5 straight wins by JWN
4 straight wins by RYU
2 straight wins by NUB

This rainbow-splattered arcade cabinet is visible from across the Skate Queen even with all the flashing lights. No arcade is complete without a hyper-violent 2-player fighting game! Each troll rolls 1d20 to play. Whoever gets the higher number wins 30 tickets, while the loser wins none. If it's a tie, you both get 10 tickets. You can't play against yourself!

User Image
Sizable Wild Game Annihilator: The Electronic Competition Platform
Current High Scores
80 points by KMC
50 points by JIM
40 points by GUN

This cabinet is probably the most gaudy of all. It's decorated with antlers and provides players with a plastic rifle to shoot at the screen. Shooting large animals has never been so easy and consequence-free! Roll 10d10. For every 10 you roll, you can roll another d10. However many 10s you rack up is your score. Every 10 you get is 10 tickets, with a maximum payout of 30 tickets.

NEWBIE SK8TER

It'd taken a while for Forera to even try coming back to Four Fronds. She had shed a lot of her old self to even bother going there, and after the fiasco with the rebels at the camp, Forera wasn't exactly willing to stick around the place. So, hearing Rasali was going to continue with opening her skating rink, she decided to visit one day to blow some steam. Though she tripped a lot, at least it was slightly reassuring she wasn't the only one falling on her a** every now and then.

Newb Skater!!

After all the mishaps she went through, Eridia decided to temporarily take her mind off things. She didn't know exactly why, the highblood always fed on conflict. She shrugged and forced her way in, only to fall. She had forgotten she had never used these! Still, it was one way to get around.

Newbie Skater!

Eostre was glad some things were still alright in the end, and the roller derby was certainly something she had admired. But she couldn't go to practices all rusty, and needed to practice her skating before the Slayers did any real roughhousing with rival teams. She locked eyes with a few fellow teammates also practicing. Thankfully, she wasn't the only one struggling to get around the rink, despite her ability to catch herself.

Newbie Skater!

It had been a while since Emi had come to the Fronds, honestly. Ever since her last visit here ended in royal disappointment, Maccue had been very staunch about having her avoid this place. He always relented—they were here now, weren't they?—but he absolutely forbade her from the forests. So naturally his charge riles up and finds this place.

It was a little bit of a tight fit, but Maccue was at least satiated with the idea that Emi would be confined to a building, and better yet a rink. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all? The tealblood was jumping up and down with excitement, wasting no time as she strapped on some skates. She'd never done s**t like this before! It sounded totally awesome! She could skateboard decently (Maccue would call that generous), so surely rollerskating would be easy, right?

Right?

Totally!

Turns out too much energy + obscured vision + clumsy tealblood child made for disaster, and Maccue could only watch in horror as she abruptly shot herself into the rink, paying no heed to anyone or anything, and consequently landed on her face. His look was one of mute horror.

Emi twitched slightly before giving a face-down thumbs up to the woodpecker. Rock on.

(Scared Little) Newbie Skater

Trips to Four Fronds were certainly on the rarer side, but not unheard of, not when your lusus wanted nothing more than the most subservient and hemospectrum-adherent of children. It was important, Guineamom assured a very nervous Nahori, to observe those higher than you, to learn from them, to interact with them in their realm. If a highblood chose to grace her with conversation (or even better, dictation), well, that was a gift.

The orangeblood supposed she was simply unlucky (in the best sense of the word, obviously). As lowly and meek as she was, she'd slipped invisibly past any interested parties so far. If anything, her large lusus garnered more attention than she. Despite all attempts to keep her at the forefront and ready, Nahori continuously ducked back against the cover of mother's shadow.

Until now, unfortunately. There was no hiding here, not in this bright-light-laden and loud locale for cool kids. Nahori was not one of those, and boy did she feel out of place, wobbling on her wheeled shoes even on the carpet outside of the rink. How this all had happened was a blur, just like the bodies speeding in a circle before her very eyes. Somehow her lusus had decided—without her consent, though that was the norm—that in order for her to properly present herself, she had to get out there and experience until someone discovered her.

Had mother eaten something sour and temporarily lost her sanity?

Shivering legs carried her onto the rink, you can do this she told herself. Truth was, she couldn't... The surface was too slippery, her legs too weak, before she could grab hold of the wall she'd accidentally steered herself right over an already fallen troll.

A short scream escaped as she went tumbling, immediately a flail of arms and legs as she fought to see just what, or who, she'd tripped over. The bows gave it away first. A tealblood. Everything went cold.

"O-O-Oh, n-no, I...... I-I'm so sorry, I-I..."

Newbie Skater

The low pitched whistle like screech was easily drowned out in the loud booming music. Maccue could only watch helplessly as his charge managed to constantly cause the biggest ********. Well, he supposed this one wasn't very big necessarily, and just with some lowblood. He deruffled slightly.

Fortunately for Nahori, Emiola was probably one of the better higherbloods to take a spill over. Her thumbs up however quickly clenched into an awkward fist as she made a shriek of sorts, flattening even further against the slick rink. It took her a moment to realize that she had been an obstacle for someone else.

"W-Wuh?" Her head was spinning, words blurry, Maccue still a distant dream. Emi lifted her head to look at the orangeblood, tilting her head before breaking out into a trademark grin, "Hey dude! No sweat off my back. I was the one who ate s**t 'n got in your way." Through her delirium she had momentarily forgotten that her lusus was present; the woodpecker hated her swearing.

She slowly crawled back towards the side rail, wobbling up to grip the handle. Emi had taken plenty of spills in her life, and this one was no different; she'd be fine, always be fine. It was whatever really. "C'mon man! Get up before someone goes'n trips over you too!"

Crane Game For Toys! *:・゚✧'

A train ticket and some mildly irrational squealing later, Elidae finally made it to the Skate Queen Roller Rink in Four Fronds after some shameless begging towards her lusus. Whispers on the streets of New Hemisect bounced around and when it finally reached her little ears, she just had to check it out! And it certainly did not disappoint! The moment she stepped inside, Elidae was in complete awe and wonderment at all the shiny things and bright lights, the hip decor, the trolls that sauntered about, the absolutely amaaaaaazing roller rink and arcade! Ladydad reluctantly buzzed behind her as her little feet scurried straight towards the skate rental so she could toootally become, like, the greatest skate queen on the floor. However, a simple crane game from the corner of her eye caught her attention. A little detour wouldn't hurt, right? "Oh my gosh." Elidae plastered her face and palms against the glass, her eyes gleaming and an internal scream of 'I WANT.' echoing in her think pan the moment she saw the cute little toys inside, particularly one that resembled a... fox...? "I gotta have you, Mr. Plushie..." she whispered, then hastily pulled out whatever she needed to start the game.

The claw jolted alive the moment her hand gently pushed the lever, following along as she moved it to her desired location. She peered around the machine to the other side, making sure the crane was aligned exaaaaactly where she needed it to to snatch that plushie right up, with a few teeheehees giggled. Finally, as the timer began to give her a warning, Elidae firmly pressed the button, and the claw began to descend. Yes, yes, the crane formed around Mr. Plushie. "Ah...?" It pulled up, slowly, possibly grabbing it by the neck! "AHHHH!"

It slipped away.

"Awww, boooo
ooooooooo..." Elidae frowned sadly, pressing her forehead against the glass. Ladydad landed gently on the top of her head and began chewing on a few strands of her hair, as if reminding her that it was just a silly game. She grumbled for a moment, but replaced her sad face with a tight grin. "Next time for sure, Mr. Plushie!"

Anguis wasn't much of one for places like this. He was far used to quieter places, his hive, the field nearby, the silence of just him reading or working out. So to be in a place like this with loud music and lights and just so much going on was a bit alien to him. But he was willing to put up with it for trolls he cared about, in particular, his sister and Luxara.

Forera had gotten him to come here a couple times, she was on the team and he liked to watch her despite all the whining that came with coming all the way out here. So when he'd been wracking his head for somewhere to take Luxara, he had come up with this. It was in her hometown and for all he knew, she could have already been here. But it seemed like something in here element and anyways, he just wanted to spend some time with her, maybe get her to smile a little. A ton of stuff had happened lately and really it was time to relax.

"And here we are!" He said, stepping in with a touch of a flourish. "I know you might've been here before but well, it seemed.. fun. Is all. Hope you don't mind?" He smiled kind of awkwardly, hoping that she liked it.

By now, she had cleared out her old hive the best she could; Luxara still couldn't believe that she had to pick up and leave the only home she'd ever known like that. Little time between grabbing her gerbils during the fire and abandoning her tree wholesale.

And that was the most recent thing. She had thought about everything else so much in the meantime, that the effort to drudge any of it up again was just too much. Let it rest.
Since the life-changing events in the tunnels, Luxara had not returned to Four Fronds much beyond when she felt she needed to. It was just too weird to come back. Like she might find her younger self going through the motions leading up to the present day, and have to watch every moment without being able to change any of it.

So following Anguis here had taken a lot of resolve. She wasn't really sure if she was up for a Four Fronds excursion, but she couldn't turn him down. Someone wanted to take her somewhere, and she always appreciated the company.

Luxara looked up at the sign. "Skate Queen, huh?" She commented upon reading it out. "Nah, I've never been here before. Wonder if this place was around before the fire." But he did say it might be fun, and jeez, if she could use some of that. Few things had been as exhilirating as giving some children the slip as of late. "Okay, Wonderboy, I'll give it a shot."

Her hands sunk into her coat pockets. As she started heading in, she nudged him with a shoulder. "I just hope it's fun for both of us, because who wants to be left out of that kind of party? Maybe they have swords or a reading corner or a gym just for you." With that, the greenblood strode on in.

Crane game!

Elidae had all the excitement in the world, but Mera was much more reserved, even in the kiddie wonderland. It was such a busy place, full of lights and noises. So much was going on wherever she looked. But this is where Eli had wanted to hang out, and Mera might as well if it was becoming popular. She couldn't fall behind on her knowledge, and she had nothing going on tonight otherwise.

However, she caught the yellowblood not in the rink, but whispering at a toy in one of the claw machines. Mera frowned a little. Didn't the other child know any better? She opened her mouth to explain that these things were notorious for being utter rip-offs, but shut it again. Even the tealblood was enamored by Eli's efforts to win the toy. She watched with interest as the claw started to pull up....and then nothing.

"Mm." She pushed her glasses up her nose. "Let me try."

Pagoni, who stood next to her and dripped wax on the sticky floor, commented that this would be a waste of beetles.

"Mmm." Hemera acknowledged as she took over the controls. She worked the machine much like Eli had, albeit silently and staring with unblinking concentration. The contraption approached the plushie again, and grasped the toy in much the same way. She kept the button pressed the whole time, hard, as if that would add strength to the wobbly claw.

So far, it seemed to work. The plushie was lifted from the ground, and headed towards the chute. Mera was practically star-eyed at her progress.

Get there get there get there...

But a little before the claw made it all the way, the toy slipped out of its grasp.

The tealblood froze up, hands still on the console. Her seething anger at being so close manifested in icing up the button a little, since her hand continued to clutch it.

"I knew it," she said tightly. Then, an inhale, an exhale. Curled her hand to destroy the ice before anyone could notice it. "It's rigged." Her tone moved into somber I-knew-it territory. "I don't believe it's possible to win it on the first try. Maybe the candy machine will be a bit more agreeable."
