For some reason, the normally comfortable jacket felt as though it was a size too small. He kept pulling at the collar, adjusting the sleeves. In front of him lay the palace gates and a short man with a half at least half as tall as he would blocked the way. "You have no identification so I cannot let you in." The man stammered, voice nasally and high pitched. He should have been inside at least 15 minutes ago but the man calling himself a "courier" would not step aside. "I have no identification because I'm not supposed to be identifiable. I'm the Princess's new guard." Varick signed, running a frustrated hand through his hair. "I'm sorry sir, but I absolutely cannot let you in without the express invitation of the royal family." "I have been invited. I've been hired by the royal family. If you would just ask Commander Garrison-" Just then Commander Garrison himself appeared at the gate. He was a massive man, built for strength. "Milton, why are you holding up the new guard?" Milton, the short man, nearly jumped out of his skin. "Commander Garrison! He-he didn't have identification." The commander rolled his eyes and turned to the young man. "You are Varick then?" Varick nodded, retrieving his bag from the ground. The enormous man pulled the gate open and gestured for Varick to come in. The courier blustered for a moment, but before he could protest Varick and Commander Garrison were already walking away. "I'm sorry about the delay." Varick said, following the Commander into the palace through the servants door. The commander chuckled. "Milton would delay the King himself if his precious papers weren't in order. You made it all the same. Let me give you a tour. We can discuss your new position." The young man trailed his new boss through the servants quarters, the gardens, and guard's barracks, attempting to memorize the layout. Normally, the hired guard wasn't this nervous before a new job. He'd done personal protection for ridiculous rich people with far to much time on their hands countless times. But this was different. This was King's daughter*. Apparently someone had managed to slip pace the palace guards during the King's last party and had made an attempt on her life. The King no longer felt the general guard was enough to protect her. She needed round the clock, personal protection. "You will be responsibly for the safety of the young Princess. you will follow her wherever she goes. A small closet down the hall from her room has requisitioned for your quarters." When they reached the door the lead to the main house, the commander stopped. "The King wants you to meet the royal family before breakfast. I will go and see if he is ready for you." Then the man disappeared through the door. Varick took the moment alone to, again, adjust his coat.◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Majoring_In_Fangirl One question, is it a medieval one or a different time period? I would of did more details, but I forgot what time period it was. Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩) Staring at herself in the mirror, Caroline's eyes draw to the women standing behind her. "Your mother has set out a specific outfit for you to wear while meeting your new guard." One of the maids spoke. Caroline rolled her eyes at that and made a gross sound. "Mother picks out the worst clothes for me to wear Beth." She said as she turned to stare at the sixty year old women instead of looking at her through the mirror. "Im sorry sweetie, but your mother told me to make you wear it. I know how much you hate them." Beth said as she turned and walked over to the walk in closest and pulled out a dress that was hanging on the hanger.
At the sight of the dress, Caroline's eyes widened. This dress actually wasn't as bad as the other ones her mother made her wear. Her mother usually made her wear dresses with some type of puffiness on it, but this one didn't have any puffiness. She was thankful that her mother wasn't going to embarrass Caroline in front of her new guard that her parents are so behind her having. She didn't understand why they wanted it. Yeah she had someone almost end her life, but if it happens it happens. Caroline had been under her parents hovering her whole life and she wanted to go out and do something crazy. Maybe with the new guard she will be able to. Her father had already told her that he would follow her around and have to go everywhere with her.
Beth came over to Caroline with the dress and took it off of the hanger. "Here, go change and come back out so that I can do you hair and makeup." She said and Caroline nodded her head. She walked off to her closest. Since it was a walk in she had enough space to change in there. Walking into her closest, she closed the door slightly and then undressed from her current outfit. When she was undressed, she pulled the dress up and slipped her arms though the arm holes. When that was done, she came out and stood back in front of the mirror. As she stood there, Beth tied the corset part of the dress. Caroline hated how tight corsets had to be, but that is always what her mother picked. When the corset was done Beth got started on her hair and makeup. All she did was curled her hair slightly and then did a little bit of makeup. Caroline didn't like a lot of makeup. She didn't really need it anyway, but when you are royal you always have to look well groomed and put together.
Just as Beth had done her finishing touches the door to Caroline's room opened. The two ladies looked over to see who had come in through the door. Caroline smiled at Garrison. "Princess, you parents want you in the common room." He said and then bowed. When he came back up he turned and left her room. Before he could leave, Caroline had yelled, "Thank you." Caroline thanked Beth for everything she had done and walked over to the closest. She walked in and grabbed a pair of simple shoes that would go with her dress. When her feet were in them, she walked out of the closest and to her door. On her way out Beth followed her and they started on their journey down to the common room.
Not long after she had left her room, Caroline had stepped foot into the common room. When her mother had spotted her, sh rushed to Caroline and looked her over. "You look beautiful darling." She said and leaned in to kiss her on the cheek. "Thanks mother." She said as she saw her mother looking down at her feet with a scowl on her face. Caroline tucked her feet under her dress to get her mother to stop looking at her feet. Her mother never liked the clothes that she picked out. Her mom looked up at her and gave her the look of 'you could of done better'. She was about to say something to Caroline, probably about going and getting a different pair of shoes, but the door had opened to the room.

☩Ѵarick Шarren ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ▶Varick waited in the small hallway for several minutes. The hot and humid air from the kitchens filled the small space, making it feel just that much smaller. Behind the door he could hear the gentle shuffling of feat, the occasional muffled voice. At the sound of the door opening, Varick stopped his shifting, standing at attention. Garrison pulled the door open wide and gestured for Varick to come through. When the young guard was through the opening, the commander closed and locked the door. "Once the King has given his approval, you will receive a set of keys. There are many doors, each with their own lock. You will have to memorize them all." Varick nodded. The room beyond the hall was enormous and lascivious. Pastel silk drapes, polished wooden floor, lamps, chairs that appeared to have seen little use, a ceiling that soared at least ten feet above his head, and more. He had never seen such opulence before. The splendor of the castle made Varick hyper aware of shabby appearance. While he had made an effort to clean choose his cleanest, nicest clothing, he still looked like a common peasant. His boots were well worn and threatening to tear. The pants were sew with patches of similar color in the knees and the shirt, once white, was now a pasty gray. Having noticed the boy scrutinizing his own appearance, Garrison commented, "We'll have you change into something a bit more suitable for you position. I'd have had you do it before, but with the delays there's no time. The Family is waiting in the common room." Garrison lead Varrick down a maze of hallways and up a flight of stairs to the main common room. They could hear someone laughing as they approached, a round, full sound. Garrison motioned for Varrick to wait before knocking and disappearing into the room. The door had not shut completely behind the captain of the guard so the young commoner was able to hear the King asking for him to be sent in. The towering guard lead Varick into another large room. While not as large as the sitting room downstairs, the common room could have fit Varick's childhood home inside it. A tall man in robes that made the room look cheap stood by the window. Two ladies sat on the couch and a lady-in-waiting lingered int he corner. "King Theodus, Queen Ara. Princess Caroline. May I present Varick Warren." Varick bowed deeply and waited for the King's approval to rise. "Ah Master Warren." The Kind said, signalling for him to stand. "You've come highly recommended." Varick bowed his head. "I'm humbled to hear a good reputation proceeds me." The King looked him over, eyes prodding but seemingly unoffended by the guard's impoverished dress. "You're the b*****d son of the late Sergeant Redstone, are you not?" Varick gave a nod. There was no malice in his words, but they still stung. "Redstone was a great man. Courageous, good-hearted man. Unfortunate his first born, Silas, was not more like him. Are you much like your father or half-brother?" "I believe you will find, Your Majesty, I am much my own person." The King paused a moment but his face was impassible. There was no way to tell what he was thinking. "We shall see, Master Warren, now won't we?" He crossed to behind the couch and placed a hand on the younger of the lady's sitting there shoulder. "This is your charge. My daughter, Caroline."◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩)
Caroline walked over to the couch that sat in the middle of the huge room. She had always secretly hated this room. It was too decorated to be showing people. Her parents were ones to over show their money and power to those in their kingdom, but when Caroline will become the next Queen she would never do what her parents have done. Even though they were loved greatly by their people, she just wouldn't throw everything in the faces of her people. Well that would all depend because her parents would want her to marry a princess of somewhere else, which would take her away from this kingdom and give the thrown to the next in line. She kinda wished that she would fall in love with someone that was not royalty and shove that into her parents face.
Her attention went back to the noise of the door opening. She watched as the first person she saw was the normal head guard, but her eyes moved back to be met with the body of her new guard. She couldn't help herself and her eyes trailed up and down his body. When her eyes came back to his head, she was relieved to know that he wasn't looking at her and that meant that he didn't see her looking him over. Maybe she would be okay with the new guard after all. He wasn't that bad to look at. He was buff, but not in the way of being too scary. He looked buff enough to scare off commoners. His face was perfectly shaped to show off that he had a strong jaw. He had a patch of slight hair on his chin that made him even more intimidating and his eyes were the color of the sky.
'What am I doing?' She questioned herself as she looked away from the man and turned her attention to the conversation that was happening in the room at that moment. She didn't really hear what had happened, but the last thing she heard was him say, "he was his own person." What had they been talking about? She thought. Before she could think anymore on it she felt the hand of her father rest on her shoulder. Looking up at the new guard she saw him looking at her. She moved her eyes away from him and heard what her father had said. She still was upset that he parents had got someone to watch her. She pushed herself up and looked at her father. "I don't need someone to watch over me every second father." She told her father as she turned and walked out of the room.
Picking up the sides of her dress, she kicked her shoes off to the side of the room and she started to run to the back of the hallway that had a door to lead to the back of the castle. She was hoping that with her running the guard wouldn't be able to find her and she would be safe to think by herself. Once she had reached the door, they were opened by the servants and she kept running down the stairs and onto the path that lead to the garden. She knew the place she wanted to go and she had to cut through the garden to get there. Reaching the garden, she walked over to the bench that sat a few inches of the wall and she stood up on it. She let go of her dress and pulled herself to the top of the wall. Sitting down on the wall, she moved her legs to the other side and then pushed herself down landing on the ground with a soft thud. Once her feet had his the ground, she had grabbed her dress again and took of running.
A few minutes later, she came to a spot that she heard the rushing waters of a river near by. She loved this place because she could think and no one would no where to find it. She walked over to a huge rock that stuck out over the flowing river and she sat down. Moving her legs to hang over she sat through and watched the water rush by. Thats what she wished she could do right now. Jump in the water and be sent away from this place. Her parents were too over bearing on her and she hated it.
Back at the castle, her father had put his hand up to massage his temples. He somehow knew she would run out, but he was hoping that she wouldn't. He looked up at the new guard. "Go and find my daughter. Do not come back until you bring her back. This is your first task and when you get back go find Commander Garrison and he will fill you in with the rest of what you need to do, but if you do not find my daughter you won't have to come back. Got it? She couldn't have gone far." Her father told the young man and waited for the man to leave and find his daughter. (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩) Never by the hands of a broken heart

☩Ѵarick Шarren ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ▶When Varick had been told he would be keeping a constant watch on a princess, he had assumed she would be a child. The young woman before him was no child. She was fair hair and her skin was beginning to tan, evidence of time spent outdoors an unladylike like pastime. While slender and well built like her mother, Princess Caroline looked a great deal more like her father. They had the same intense eyes with a gaze that carried weight. They both held themselves strongly. No shrinking back. He bowed again, averting eye contact. It was considered disrespectful for a man like him to make eye contact with a woman of her rank. Varick was not given a chance to address her though for the moment he opened his lips to speak, the princess had stood and professed the frivolousness of his new position. And with that she walked out of the room. The Queen, though smiling, was turning a dark shade of purple. "You must forgive the Princess, Master Warren. She is strong-willed." The King watched her go with a sigh. The motion seemed to deflate him, all his strength leaving with the breath. With one hand, he idly massaged his temple. ""Go and find my daughter. Do not come back until you bring her back." He crossed back to the window "This is your first task and when you get back go find Commander Garrison and he will fill you in with the rest of what you need to do, but if you do not find my daughter you won't have to come back. Got it? She couldn't have gone far." Varick was a startled, surprised to be starting so soon. But he bowed deeply. "Of course, Your Majesty." And moved to follow the princess. She was already down the hall, disappearing around a corner, dress pulled up in her hands. Varick picked up his speed to keep her in his sight, but when he rounded the corner the back door was closing behind her. Through the garden, the guard trailed his new charge. She must not have thought she was being pursued becaun'tse her path was easy to follow and her speed was not difficult to keep pace with. Varick was, again, surprised to find himself vaulting over the stone wall and into the countryside. He kept back about fifteen feet, moving silently through the growing grass. Should anything happen, he could be at her side in seconds but at this distance he was not intruding her space. Ahead, the sound of rushing water. The princess didn't stop running until she reached the river's edge, dropping down on the bank. Her chest heaved in labored breaths, but she seemed more at ease here that she did back int he castle. Varick lingered for a few minutes outside of her view. A survey of the area showed no intimidate threat, minus the river. There would be nothing wrong with giving the princess a moment of peace. But that wasn't the only reason he waited several minutes before stepping forward. He felt like an intruder here. This was clearly family to Princess Caroline. Speaking felt like a violation of her sacred space. "Your Highness." He said finally, stepping forward.◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩)
Caroline sat silently on the rock and breathed deeply as her heart beat started to slow down to its normal rate. She was happy that her parents didn't know where she was, but knowing her parents the new guard would of been made to follow her. As she was sitting there she was debating on if she wanted to jump into the water and swim for a while. Down the way there is a calmer spot of the river and it was safe enough for her to swim in. The only way she could get down to it was to jump off of the cliff that was up on the side, unless she wanted to walk around, but why not just jump off the cliff. As she was thinking, she heard the sound of feet walking on the ground and then the voice of a man.
She sighed and turned around to notice that the new guard was there. She had to roll her eyes at what he had said to her. "You don't have to call me that." She told him honestly. "I hate that title." She said as she stood up and looked over the edge to the water again. Glancing back over at him, she turned to look at him and she grabbed her dress in her hands and started to walk in the direction of the calmer part of the water. She knew he was going to follow her, but he would have to be comfortable with her jumping off of a cliff.
Coming up to the cliff, she looked over and saw as he had come over to watch her. "Turn around." She told him as she didn't want to take her dress off in front of him. "Wait, I need help first." She said as she had just remembered that she needed to have the corset on the back of the dress untied. She walked over to him and stood in front of him. She turned around so she was facing away from him and lifted her hair up so that he could undo the corset. "Can you undo this for me?" She asked him as she waited for him to do it.
After she felt the pressure release from the corset loosening, she walked away from him back to where she was standing before. "Thank, now turn around." She waited for him to turn around and when he did. She removed her arms from the dresses shoulders and then let the dress fall down to her feet. She did have stuff to cover up her stuff, but she still didn't want him to look. "Okay, when you hear a splash you can turn around. Don't worry, I am not going to hurt myself sir. And by any chance can you bring me my dress when you most likely make the hike down to the bottom?" She asked him as she walked over to the edge of the cliff and leaped off of the edge and let out a little scream on her way down. When she felt her feet break through the water, she took a deep breath and held it until she came up. When she did, she looked up to see what he was going to do. She loved the adrenaline that she feels when she jumps from the high places down. She loved cliff jumping as well. It made her feel like a normal person and she was one to feel norma. She hated the life of being cooped up in the castle and being all proper all the time. Maybe this guard she could make friends with. He looked around her age and she needed someone to talk to. He was going to be around her all the time anyway. (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩) Never by the hands of a broken heart

☩Ѵarick Шarren ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ▶"Is there a title you prefer?" He asked, withholding his sarcasm. There was no sense in making enemies with the person he would, if all went well, be spending all his time with. He trailed behind as she walked down along the edge, eyeing the cliff. At her command, Varick turned his back, mind forming her plans. She wanted to jump in. It was at least a 30 foot drop to the water, maybe more, and this reckless princess wanted to jump. When she crossed over to him and asked him to untie her corset, he was hesitated. The king would not like him assisting in his daughter's rebellion, but Varick had to choose his battles. Carrying her kicking and screaming back to the castle would be tedious. Having a good working relationship would make his job easier in the future. So against his better judgement, he untied the corset and turned around. The Princess gave another command then he could hear her make a running start and disappear over the cliff edge. Resigned, Varick retrieved the dress and began making his way down the canyon and to the river side below. As he walked, Varick reminded himself why he was here. He needed a steady, well-paying job. Dangerous as it was, protecting the princess was no more perilous than other jobs he had taken. Working for the Royal Family meant a steady flow of coins and a fixed locations, both of which would make taking care of his mother easier. When he had enough money saved, he could send for her, rent her a place within the city, get her in to see a real doctor even. He needed his job to work out. It took at least twenty minutes to reach the river's edge and several more to walk in enough to find the princess. The King would not be pleased. When he finally found her, he set the dress by the water's edge and turned away again. "We should make our way back to the castle, Your Highness." The title slipped from his tongue before he could remember her distaste for it. "They will wonder where we have gone."◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩)
Caroline waited in the water for the guard to come and find her. She knew he was going to come. It was in his job description. She was happy to have this alone time because it was the last alone time she was actually going to have for a while. He was going to be there in the distance to watch her every move. As she was floating in the water, she thought back to the question he had asked her about what title she preferred. She thought of what she would want him to call her, but only when they were alone. He would have to call her Highness when they were around her parents or others.
She floated for a little bit in the water and she noticed his presence by her again. She sighed as he said that they should get back to the castle. "I guess we should. Turn around again." She told him as she waited patiently as he turned around. She swam to the shore of the land and walked out of the water. Once she stepped out, she was a little cold, but it was worth it for the adrenaline that she felt earlier. She shook her body a little bit to let the water leave her body and she walked over to him. She made sure to stay behind his body so that he couldn't see her and she reached down to the ground and grabbed her dress from the ground. She pulled it out of his hand and slide it on over her head. When it was placed on her body she walked around him and stopped in front of him. Before she picked her hair up, she rung it out in front of her and then held it up. "Can you tie it please?" She asked him nicely. She waited patiently for him to do it.
When he was done, she turned and looked at him. This was the closest she had been to him to be able to see his face. She was able to look at his eyes which were the most amazing color she had ever seen on anyones eyes. She quickly looked away and started to walk away. As she was walking, she looked over her shoulder and back at him. "You can call me by my name when we are alone. My parents will want you to say Highness when we are around people. I hate being royalty and don't want to be called Highness." She said as she started walking in the opposite direction that he had come from. The way she was going was actually the faster way then the way he had came down. Since she had been to this place many times, she knew all the routes and which would take the longest to get back to the castle. Since she hated the royal life, she knew the best places to go that will let her be out for quite a while.

☩Ѵarick Шarren ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ▶When she was out of the water and redressed, Princess Caroline moved in front of him, facing away, and pulled the locks of golden hair from her neck. This girl was full of surprises and once again, she managed to give him pause. When had he ever heard someone of rack say please when speaking to him? The surprise only delayed him for a second before his deft hands began lacing the corset again. Being more familiar with the taking off of women's clothing and not the putting on, Varick wasn't sure how tight to make it, so he made due with what he could, leaving it looser than it had been before. When he had finished relacing her dress, she turned and looked up at him. Her appearance was even more striking up close. A perfect blend of her mother's softness and her father's strength, Princess Caroline was a picture of noble beauty. Her tanned skin was unmarred and promised to be soft to the touch. She had her father's hair color and her mother's chin, but her eyes were entirely her own. While her mother's were sharp and cunning and her father's were strong and dominating, Princess Caroline's eyes carried a gentleness and understanding, as though she were no looking at you but into you to the deepest parts of your soul. Suddenly, she turned and walked away, snapping Varick out of his trance. Her cursed himself silently. In addition to making eye contact, he had allowed her beauty to distract him. Had there been any danger, the guard would not have been the wiser. When she addressed him again, Varick was careful to look beyond her, not at her. How strange. She wanted a commoner to call her by her name. She did not like being royalty. The young man could not see any fault in the luxury she had been afforded her entire life, but then again, one who covets wealth is hardly a good judge of it. Unsure how to responded, Varick gave a curt nod and said, "As you wish." What harm could come from doing as the princess wanted when they were alone? A preternatural quiet descended upon the area as they walked along. Despite the rushing water and call of birds, the space felt deeply silent, empty of all human life despite the two of them. It set Varick's nerves on edge. He was familiar with the hustle and bustle of humans, eye adept at catching small movements among man-made structures. Away from the city, each organic bend and movement of the world around him looked like a potential threat. felt as though the entire world were holding its breath, waiting for something to happen. As he scanned the area, his hand found its way to his belt and throwing knives, but he didn't unsheathed them. ◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩)
Caroline walked peacefully back to the castle. She was in no hurry to get back to her normal life. She had to go and sit in on her parents accepting gifts from the people of their land later that night. She hated those nights. She hated having to sit there and watch the people give away food to her parents as thanks for what they had done. Then tomorrow her parents have said she needed to go to the edge of the kingdom and visit with the people. She loved visiting them, but she didn't like how they put her up on a higher greatness then anyone else. Maybe she will somehow skip that and just walk around the outskirts of the city. Well her guard will have to be there with her, but maybe he would do it. It would normally of been just her and another guard, but now that she got a new one, it would be just the two of them.
As she was thinking that, she stopped and turned around to look at him. "I have a question and im going to do it no matter what you say." She told him honestly. She was surprised by herself. She had never actually been this direct with anything, but this guard seemed different. Almost like she could tell him anything. "Tomorrow, I must go to the outskirts of the kingdom and you will have to come with me, but I hate all the stuff to do with being royal. I hate all the, 'Princess, here. Take this as my thanks.' I hate it. So, tomorrow can you get me some regular clothes and something to cover my face so no one recognizes me? I want to see what it is like a day without being a princess." She told him as she looked at him. She didn't have a problem with him looking her in the eyes, but her parents would hate that. They would probably fire him right on the spot. "If you say no, I can always bribe you." She smiled at him with a little twinkle in her eye.
She waited for his answer. "Don't worry, you will not get in trouble. I will take the blame if we get caught, but we won't." She smiled. "I'll just tell my parents that I gave the stuff back to the people." She had thought the plan through and she was happy. She turned around and started on her way again. As she was walking she was thinking of how the day tomorrow would be like and not be royalty for a day. Her thinking also shifted into the guards eyes. She came to realize that she actually loved the color and that she had a slight crush on the guard. She couldn't though because her parents would never allow that to happen. If her parents didn't agree in it she just wanted it that much more, but she couldn't do anything with him. She actually didn't know how old her was. He looked to be young, but she wasn't sure because of the job title he was. She also didn't know anything about his personal life. He could have a wife or girlfriend. She never did look at his hand to see if that was the case. She needed to stop thinking about this. She was so into thinking of how it would be and about his gorgeous eyes, that she didn't realize that her foot got caught on a up rooted tree root and she started to fall to the ground. She put her arms out to brace herself for the hard ground below her.

She wanted him to disguise her so she could wander about as a commoner? For safety purposes, it would mean assassins would be less likely to identify her, but it raised all sorts of new dangers. The idea that solidified his answer however was that perhaps if she saw the ways those lower than her suffered she might be more grateful. At the mention of the bribe, Varick was tempted. More money meant sending for his mother that much sooner. But he knew there was no way he could take the money. Bribery was strictly against his personal code. It was underhanded and unfair. Her father had offered him a lofty sum for this postilion (assuming he still had the position when he returned the King's daughter at least an hour later and sopping wet). "No bribe will be necessary, Your" He caught himself. "Caroline. I shall have the clothes for you before the morning." Ahead, the castle loomed and Varick began to feel better, less nervous. He had the distint feeling they were being watched but was unable to locate any eyes. Suddenly he heard a branch snap somewhere behind them. "Stop moving." he ordered, pulling a dagger from his belt and whipping around. The trees were swaying in the breeze, making it hard to see any movement. He strained his ears, but heard no footfalls. After a tense moment, he began backing up slowly towards the princess. "I cannot confirm, but I believe we are being followed. Can you run to the walls without slowing?" ◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±

Caroline Grace I only wanna die alive (◡_◡) (◕-◕) (◕o◕) (∩_∩)
Caroline felt her small frame hit the ground. She had caught herself with her hands that she out stretched, but she hurt them a little bit. When she hit the ground a little oomph noise escaped her. She sat on the ground for a little bit and she pushed herself up. She straightened herself up and noticed that he didn't say anything about her falling. She just brushed herself off and started to walk towards the castle again. She was actually happy to be going back to the castle now. She was looking forward to tomorrow because she could just be a regular person and no one would notice her. Since she was supposed to be gone all day anyway, her parents wouldn't notice anything different. The people on the edge of the kingdom don't reply back to the royal family and say that the princess wasn't there to collect the stuff. She had skipped out on doing that before and nothing happened. She skipped around her parents and got away with it. She had many years of getting away with things.
As she was walking, she heard the guards voice saying that he thought they were being followed. When he asked if she could run to the castle walls without stopping, she nodded her head. "Yes." She said. She didn't leave long to hear what he said because she turned back and started to sprint towards the castle walls. She made sure to pull her dress up and made sure that she wouldn't trip over her own dress. As she ran, she made sure to watch her step so that she didn't end up falling again. She made it to the castle walls quicker then she wanted, but it was fast enough to get away from whatever danger it was that the guard had heard behind them. She came up onto the stone walls of the castle and she leaped up onto the ledge. She pulled herself over and landed on the ground next to the bench she used earlier to jump over it. When she had both of her feet planted on the ground, she started to run towards the back doors of the castle.
Reaching the back doors, she stopped and took a deep breath trying to regain her heart beat to the normal speed. She ran fast then she had ever done before. When the guards at the back doors saw Caroline, they quickly jumped to action mood. "What is wrong princess?" One asked. Calorie turned and joined her finger in the direction she came from. She swallowed and then opened her mouth to speak. "My guard said he heard smoothing and felt like we were being followed." She quickly spoke out as she looked at the two. The two of them nodded and then took off in the direction that she pointed in. They were going to help out the guard. She turned and walked to the doors. Opening them, she walked in and was quickly gathered up by Beth in a hug. "Young lady, you are in trouble. You are also wet." She said in a scolding voice. "Now, we must go get you ready for tonight. You need to go down to take a bath and then I will be there to get you dressed." She said and Caroline nodded her head. She walked off in the direction of the room that had the bath in it. She reached the room and went in. She shut the door behind her and noticed that the bath was already filled for her. She undressed and then got into the bath. She hated having people help her bathe, so she always made sure she was alone and could do it herself.

☩Ѵarick Шarren ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± ▶As soon as the princess started running, Varick saw movement in the trees. The something came flying out, a glint of silver. He stretched out his hand, leaping toward it to intercept its path. With a thud, the small throwing dagger embedded itself in his hand. Varick inhaled sharply but didn't give himself any time to savor the pain, pulling the dagger out and pocketing it. He turned swiftly to throw his own dagger but the shape was gone. A glance back proved the princess was capable of running for as long as they said she was. her form was just disappearing over the castle wall. With the major threat gone, Varick pulled the dagger from his pocket. It was small and thin, a master crafting work. the tip smelled bitter, probably garet root poison, to his relief. Varick had built up an immunity to small amounth of this and a few other common poisons. He would feel a bit unwell, but no serious side effects. The guard began walking back towards the castle. Moments later, two guards vaulted themselves over the wall. Varick instructed them to search the woods for one, possibly two intruders on foot, though he doubted they would find anything. This was a scouting mission. Had the attackers been better prepared, they surely would have attacked. He was no well armed and the princess was outside of the gate. They would be back though, who ever they were. Varick made a mental note to put the word out to a few of his contacts regarding the hit ordered out against the princesses life. He could imagine what she could have done to recieve a contract on her life, but perhaps her father knew. Once inside the castle, Varick reported to Garrison. Garrison looked worried when he heard of the attack, but relaxed one he knew the princess had been returned safely. "Let's bandage that hand before we see the king." Garrison said, tossing the new guard a few cloth. Varick nodded and did so as they made there way to the King's private sitting room. It was on the top floor and colored entirely in deep red and gold. The King's eyes furrowed when Varick described the attack. "You have done well." The King remarked once Varick had finished. "Garrison, take him to the armory and outfit him well. Master Warren, my armory is open to you always. My daughter is in her private chambers preparing for the Commoner's Offering. This should give you enough time to change and prepare your quarters. You are dismissed." Seiving the moment, Varick said, "Your Highness." "Was there something else, Master Warren." "Regarding my salary-" He began, loosing some of his confidence under the King's gaze. "I do not mean to seem ungrateful, but I was hoping I might receive an advance-" The King interrupted him with a short laugh. "Master Warren, you have just begun in my service. To not try my kindness. You shall be paid at the end of the month, like all my workers." Varick bowed deeply. "My apologizes, You Highness." "Dismissed." The King repeated. ◀ ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ± : . : ±
