The morning sun rose like any other day, and its deep rosy rays slowly lit the kingdom block by block. The common folk began to wake, shop keepers began to prepare for guests. It seemed by the time most of the population had stirred awake, the castle had begun to bustle and bounce with workers. One by one, maids fetched linens, cooks began prepping food, guards took their morning rounds. It seemed as though everyone had finally awoken. Except one. Beyond long hallways, lush curtains, gold ornaments, several rooms of every use, and quite a few busy workers, sat a quiet little room, secluded behind oak double doors. And underneath silk sheets and a rather plush comforter, lay an undisturbed Lucille Belmont.

After a rather late evening of strolling the gardens, far past normal evening viewing hours, Lucille had decided to overstay her welcome. Eventually leaving the gardens and stopping to gaze at the large front gate out of the palace, Lucy had made herself promise to see the city again. Of course, her maid had advised against it at the time, but knew it was helpless trying to convince her otherwise. Lucille had simply pushed back her bangs, sighed, and looked to her friend. "Someday," she told her maid, "I'll walk freely. Just you watch."

Daring to keep that promise to herself, Lucille finally jolted awake at the sound of a rap at her door. Pushing back covers and pillows, she blinked the sleep back from her eyes and kicked her legs free from her bed, sliding to the edge before letting her feet touch the cool tile flooring. Slinking to the door, she opened it to find her maid. Normal wake up call, as usual. "M' lady," the quiet female spoke, her voice smooth and welcoming, "Rise and shine. Breakfast will be served within the hour." And with that, Lucille nodded, eyed her maid, signaling some wanted privacy, and shut the door without a word.
Today was... special. If she remembered correctly. Something about her father announcing her engagement proposal to the public. She knew he planned to invite many people from across the country, but she knew so little, he always kept her in the dark. Either way, she'd find out, one way or another.

"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

The cabin shook again, rousing Shou from his sleep. Being trained to wake at the slightest chance of an attack caused events like flying difficult. He opened the slide covering the window, and the light of the next day shined across the cabin to the Prince who Shou guarded. Prince Yureno was the heir to the throne of a rather small country when compared to most kingdoms around the world. He decided to take the chances like many others when rumors that Princess Lucy's hand in marriage would become available. Any Prince or lord seeking to inherit a great country would be coming to the celebration. Oddly enough, no one knew what the Princess looked like, and rumors only fueled the curiosity. As the pilot called back that they would be landing soon, Shou closed the book resting in his lap.

Midnight's Story was the title, and the story was oddly written in Shou's opinion. About a soldier and a noble whose relation turned to romance despite having no close relationship before their meeting. He decided to finish it on the drive up to the palace from the airfield, placing it in his carryon bag. The Prince was just starting to wake up, looking over to Shou before checking outside the window, watching the plane descend. "We're here already?" the Prince asked, looking over to Shou. "Yes my lord. You slept through much of the flight. Perhaps we shouldn't leave at such an early hour for the next marriage announcement." Shou stood and walked to the cockpit of the plane, preferring to watch as the plane touched down.

After the plane came to a pause, the doors were opened by Shou, eager to set foot somewhere other than his home kingdom. Even as a knight Shou still enjoyed the thought of traveling, something that he rarely did in the service of Prince Yureno. Shou waited for the Prince to reach the door and walk down the metal stairs before following behind him into the car. It was complete with the diplomatic plates and flag of their kingdom, although few might be able to place which kingdom it was. The car drove off of the tarmac and onto the asphalt of the common road, speeding in the direction of the capital and ultimately the palace. "You think she'll be as beautiful or as ugly as the rumor say? I can't wait for the announcement." Speaking aloud in the car, Yureno had insisted they arrived early to make an impression for the King, and possibly the Princess.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

After shuffling around her room for a few minutes, Lucille finally decided to get ready. A quick shower later, she was dressed and hair was put back in pigtails. Slipping her boots on, she brushed off her skirt before checking herself in the mirror and stepping outside her bedroom. Paying no attention to the maid who was supposed to escort her to breakfast, Lucy made her way down several hallways and past workers bustling about their jobs. She almost decided to skip breakfast and try to find a way outside, but it seemed that most exits had been blocked off by guards. At the idea of her father trying to keep her inside, Lucy shuddered and her eyebrows creased as she turned once more and made her way back towards the formal dining hall.

Boots slowing to a stop, Lucy looked up at the large dining room doors, and her eyes darted to the men who proceeded to open the large double doors for her. She nodded her thanks and took a few steps into the room before a voice forced her to stop once again. "Now why would someone like you be wearing something like that on a day like this?" the voice inquired, and she huffed out a breath before walking to the table again. "Good morning to you too." she told her father, who sat at the far end of the long table, glass in hand and newspaper in the other. "Lucille, do you know what today is?" The man's eyes didn't stir from the words on his paper, and he set his glass down gently before turning a page. Lucy sat down in a seat that was held out for her, but she remained quiet otherwise. A platter of various foods was set in front of her, along with a drink. "Lucille," the man said again, this time a little louder, "Speak when addressed." "Your birthday?" she asked sarcastically, and the man scoffed before finally turning. "I wish," he put simply before setting his paper down. "Today is the day I announce the details of your engagement proposal to our kingdom."

At the sound, Lucy jabbed a fork into a piece of egg with a clang, making her father flinch slightly. She said nothing, and he continued. "Various princes and suitors have begun to arrive already, and we will be accommodating them in our home. I expect you to be on your best behavior. Preparations are being made for the announcement later this afternoon, and later this week we begin our search for your future husband." After a minute of silence, the king eyed Lucy suspiciously, and she only continued eating. "You will accompany me for the announcement." At that, Lucy finally took her glass and took a swig, set it down, and got up from the table. "Lucille, where do you think you are going?" "Anywhere but here," she said finally, and with eyes narrowed, she walked out of the room, making her way towards an upper story common room that over looked the capital. She wasn't about to sit and listen quietly to her father planning her future, she'd rather be alone.

The trip from the airfield to the capital took near half an hour, so Shou took the time to get some shut eye, if only the Prince hadn't kept thinking out loud. "What color hair does she have? Is it blonde? Maybe black. They're both very pretty. What of her eyes? Blue? Brown? A lovely emerald green?" Shou couldn't help but feel he was mentally building up his perfect image of the princess, and he'd be surprised when he met the real thing. As the prince continued, Shou removed and placed his headphones over his ears, scrolling through the music library before picking an orchestral tune. He watched the green fields pass by before the road changed into a street with buildings to either side of them.

They were to stay at the palace at the request of the king, with the rest of the Prince's company and luggage following in a separate plane and car. The Prince tapped Shou out of his music, forcing him to push the headphones down to rest around his neck. "We're almost there. Aren't you a little excited?" "As much as I possibly could, my lord." The car slowed to a halt, and after waiting a few seconds continued, with large gates and guards passing by in the window. "We're here! Finally!" Prince Yureno leaned against the window acting like a kid at an amusement park, in awe of the sights but not thinking about the experience to come. "Sire, because of your insistence to arrive early, I think we will be interrupting the king's breakfast."

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

As she arrived in the common room, she didn't stop at the door, but continued on to the window at the far side of the room. It was a huge thing, spanning almost from far wall to far wall, with a door to a balcony in the middle. She continued at her quick pace through the door and finally halted after she stepped onto the balcony. She took in a deep breath and let her air out, taking another quiet step towards the railing. Her eyes scanned the castle and courtyard below her, spotting various people, trimmings, and cars or limousines that seemed to have arrived. She rolled her eyes at the thought of suitors and turned her hip to sit on the edge. Her skirt spread on the thick stone railing, and she tucked a hair behind her ear as the breeze shook her pigtails.

Car doors were opened, fancy men in fancy suits and attire stepped out, bows were exchanged, and doors were shut. After another minute, she saw her father step outside with a few of his own, to greet the oncoming flow of suitors. She scowled at the scene, and noticed his motions towards his guests. She could tell who he liked best by how he acted. Most princes had arrived alone, some with what she assumed was their train or knights. As she spotted her father walking up to one car, she noticed two men emerge from the car, one with normal fancy attire, the other with somewhat similar colors, as well as a sword at his hip. An eyebrow raised, and Lucy scanned the fellow, sizing him up. Another second later, another car caught her eye, and she turned towards it. Very gaudy. She actually smirked and laughed aloud, maybe a little too loud, and with that, she pushed herself back onto the balcony and turned to go back inside.

She decided it best to find something for herself to do, since she obviously wasn't going outside the castle, and there was nothing for her to do inside except make mischief. Maybe she would find a way to mess with the princes later, maybe she would steal some papers from her father's office. The possibilities were endless.

((OOC; I'm thinking they meet once before and then at a party to announce her hand in marriage.))
"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

Shou stepped out of the car first, looking around the courtyard and observing the other suitors as he held the door open for the Prince. Yureno stepped out as the King approached the car, bowing to him before rising to introduce himself. "Your Majesty. I am Prince Keril Yureno of Sydion. Thank you, for it is an honor to receive your hospitality. Shou bowed after stepping to Yureno's side. "I present my knight, Shou Tamashi." Shou rose and remained silent as Yureno continued; "I would like to ask to what do we owe the pleasure of celebrating during this gathering? Shou, if you would retrieve the bags."

With the Prince's gesture back, Shou in turn bowed and turned on his heel to the car. They only had a small bag for each of them on the trip, while the car with the rest of their company and luggage passed through the gates. Shou met them as the left the car. Unlike Shou, who kept to more traditional swordsmanship, much of the guard kept to firearms. While he had training with them, he preferred his sword. Many kingdoms still kept to traditions that were centuries old, and it was Shou's belief it was for the nostalgia of those times where kingdoms first gained their glory. Even the 'new world' to the west formed its own monarchy.

Shou thought he heard someone laugh, turning around to look at the castle's balconies, only to find no source. He turned his attention back to the guards and directed them to follow the Prince inside and move the luggage. As the luggage was being unloaded from the van, Shou moved a fair distance from the gravel onto the courtyard grass. There was a slight breeze, whipping his hair and the cloak over his right shoulder in the wind before it subsided. "Wonder what she does look like..." he muttered to himself. He turned around to watch as the luggage was removed while enjoying the breeze.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

Much thought went into figuring out what her next move should be, and Lucy had decided it would be best for her to actually get out of the castle. She wasn't about to go through with her lessons; Language lessons were the worst, and the more she thought about sitting through them, the more of a headache she got. So, she made her way to the gardens. There was no way for her to leave the grounds at the moment, but if she could get outside, that might be enough to tide her over for the time being. As she continued passing workers and maids, her thoughts ran back to the first time she was supposed to have been married off to a man she didn't know.

It had been so confusing to her at the time. This all had been the exact same, but three years ago. She had been very in the dark on everything concerning her engagement, and the first time around, her father had insisted that the only time she interact with her suitors be at the dance he had thrown in her honor. At the time, she had decided to take the dance as a chance to have fun rather than spend it being serious and conducting herself like her marriage was a business proposal, no matter how much her father would like to think of it as that. At her own request, her father grudgingly had made the ball masked, and she had flourished in the mystery of people not knowing who was the princess, and of course it only added to her amusement. Few people actually stuck in her mind after that night.

As she finally made it to the garden, she sighed in relief to see only one guard stood at the entrance from the castle to the gardens. "I request entrance," she told the man, standing straight and watching with a hint of surprise as he stepped aside. Apparently she was free to walk the castle now. It must have only been for this morning, when her father wanted her to sit down to breakfast with him.
The sun was reaching the half point in the sky now, and as she stepped outside, she smiled for the first time in quite awhile. It felt good to smile honestly about something, and she found a small bench far into the garden that had some shade beneath a giant tree. She only prayed that she could keep her seclusion for a little while longer, at least until she had to reveal herself to the world.

Shou continued to stand there and watch the accompanying guards unload the luggage. The Prince seemed to believe he'd need nearly half his wardrobe with the amount he packed. Once the last of it was pulled out and the car pulled away, Shou turned to look around the courtyard and enjoy the view. He had to join with the rest of the guards and move the luggage up the stairs into the entrance hall for the palace which was, to say the least, very grand. They were greeted by servants of the house who guided them to the rooms they would be staying at. More suitors walked in and were greeted by other servants who in turn lead them separate ways.

It was logical, having the heirs and leaders of important kingdoms who were effectively in competition with each other, to keep them away from each other. Even if they were raised with proper manners there would be some incidents between them. This kingdom was one of the largest around so each of the suitors something to desire even before meeting the princess. The servant guiding them opened a set of double doors to reveal a large room that Shou assumed would be Yureno's. "Leave the Prince's here. The rest will be taken to our quarters."

After setting herself down on a bench, Lucy kicked her feet up and let her eyes wander. She was particularly fond of the garden area. It was grand and beautiful, and although it sat like a neighbor next to the front courtyard, it was wide enough where she felt alone. She could wander for what seemed like hours among it's long and winding paths, and she constantly found new places to sit and new plants to admire. In a world where she was constantly bugged to do what others said, it was a place of serenity where she could do what she wanted.

But before long, she found her mind wandering back towards the palace and how it was slowly filing up with strangers. She knew that she only had so much time for privacy and that it was slowly slipping away. She scowled at the idea of princes trying to find her throughout the castle, or worse, trying to find her room. "How in the hell am I supposed to survive this?" she said more to herself than to the quiet around her. She wanted to scream, because there was no way she was going to sit idly by while her only chance at privacy and happiness was taken away by princes trying to strike it lucky.

She looked up to the sky then, seeing the sun passing the midpoint in the sky. She must have spent more time outside than she thought. Nonetheless, she stayed put. If princes wanted to come find her, fine. "Heh, good luck," she said aloud, and again, to no one in particular. They can search all they want. If one was to find her, who says she would have to tell them who she really was? No one knew of her appearance, and that made it all the more fun. Besides, she could spend all day out here. If she became hungry, she knew some maid would come find her to bring her a meal. Screw accompanying her father to announce her marriage details. She could care less. He didn't need her to do that.

Lucy found herself wandering through the rose bushes and various perennials scattered throughout her little paradise. After a while, a maid had found her kneeling next to a few lily patches, and had seemed fairly worried. Lucy had brushed off her concern. "M'lady, it is time for your lunch, and your father requests your presence." Lucy paused her tending to turn to her. "You can bring my meal out here, along with my writing supplies, please." She stood up then, brushing off her knees. Her head turned back to the maid. "As for my father, you can tell him I won't be coming. He doesn't need me for the announcement. I would stand there like an idiot anyways." With that, she lifted an eyebrow. The maid seemed to try to protest, but stopped herself, and turned quickly back to the castle.

When the maid entered the castle, Lucy deflated a little, her shoulders slumping at the thought of dismissing her workers so rudely. She returned to her lilies, but after a minute, she sat back. "I've been through 3 years of this," she said to herself, and a little towards her flowers, "How much longer can I keep this up?" She was silently waiting for the lilies to reply, but knew she shouldn't expect that. Her face fell a little, and she picked a lily from the bunch.

She twisted the lily a little, and stood up to return to another bench. This new bench was larger, with a cushion at the back. So she sat down, and leaned back, sighing.

"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

The luggage was placed and the rest of the guards filed out with the luggage, leaving Shou behind. He started a sweep of the room out of caution, for listening or recording devices. Modern times may have kingdoms that were stronger than ever, but technology kept advancing. Finding nothing, he relaxed and breathed out, and sitting down on a chair in the room. Shou was alone in the room, and it was quite largest for just a guest bedroom. "Are they all like this?" he wondered, sure that his quarters would be greatly humble. The silence was pleasant, although Shou felt it would be best to relax outside of the Prince's temporary quarters.

Shou retrieved the novel from his bag and left the room after locking it. He'd find somewhere in the courtyard to continue his reading. He wasn't expecting to see a maid carrying a tray of food not to a room, but rather through the main hall and out into the courtyard. He followed her out of curiosity but a crash from another arriving suitor stole his attention for only a couple seconds. That was long enough for him to lose sight of her somehow in the courtyard flora. He wandered without aim, although curious why a maid would bring food out here. He must have walked into a decorative labyrinth as the bushes rose near head height. His only guide seemed to be a rather large tree in what he assumed to be the middle of the maze.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

Lucy opened her eyes at the sound of footsteps, as well as metal against metal. She leaned forward to look around the tree that stood tall next to her bench, and she spotted the maid from before, with what looked like her meal and the materials she had requested. She set the lily she picked from the bush down on her bench, and stood up to meet the maid. The maid seemed younger than her, and Lucy tried her best to give a thankful smile. "Thank you, really," she said, taking the tray and setting it down on the bench next to the lily. She then took the small bundle of writing supplies that the maid brought: her large, tattered, leather bound notebook, her usual ink pen, a ruler and a sharpened pencil. She looked at the maid again, meeting her gaze to say, "Really, this means a lot. Thank you." The maid's expression softened, and she curtsied lightly before turning and calmly walking back to the castle without another word.

She was alone again, so Lucy turned back to the long bench. She sat down on her knees in front of it, setting her notebook open by her tray of food. She flipped to the next blank page and scribbled the date in the top corner before turning back to what she had written on previous pages. Her eyes scanned the paper, her finger occasionally following lines of words, and she grabbed the ruler, set it between her teeth before turning back to the new page to write a list of ideas.

And so that was how she worked. Flip a few pages, flip back, set the ruler down, take a bite of her food, sip her drink, look back at the page. Write a few lines, take the ruler, draw some outlines, stick the ruler between her teeth, continue writing. She did this for a minute before it became a process, and her tunnel vision remained on her book and food. Occasionally she would pause, her mind racing, before smiling, or maybe even giggling at her crazy ideas, before returning to her journal.

((OOC; That random clump of leaves...))
"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

Shou looked at his options, either turn back or continue towards the tree. He figured he might as well continue and see the most of the courtyard and gardens he could before he had to chaperon the Prince around. As he walked, the maid he saw from earlier appeared from around a corner without the tray and walked past him, glancing over with her eyes as she did. She didn't speak but her face seemed to show a worried expression. She hastily turned into a corner and he could hear fast steps from behind the trees, as if she was trying to run. His attention was taken when he heard a giggle from over the side of the hedge, near the tree.

He turned the corner the Maid came from and saw a clearing with the tree in the middle, but no one else. There was another giggle that Shou was sure came from this area. He walked to the side from his place, checking if there was someone behind the tree. Sure enough there was a girl, sitting on a bench. Even though her back was towards him, he could tell she was writing either writing or drawing as she ate. That meant she was the one the maid brought the tray out for, although why have a maid bring out a tray of food? Shou didn't want to intrude so he started to walk away, but stepped on a clump of dried leaves, making a large 'crunch'.
