Lurks giggled ferociously, the sound like rasping sandpaper and abruptness.
"Why?" he asked, luminous amber eyes brimming with curiousity. He scampered up, peeking down at her. He was a little taller, but still seemed so young. In mind, if not in body.
"My nameee is Lurks Beneath, and I am bored and don't want to go inside, because I have seen all the sand in the right level, and I am not supposed to go into the Death level any more, because it is not for me, even though I just wanted to see--"
Lurks bounced on the heels of his feet, wings fluttering. "I am restless," he complained, fingers itching.

Colt, her mind provided as the young horsemen giggled. His features were hard to distinguish, half skeletal and hooded, but he had the tell tale mannerisms of youth. Nergui's lips ticked up on one side in amusement as she desummoned her weapon and folded her arms.
"Because if you jump out at folks like that they may answer in instinctual violence." She watched him as he clambered back up the side of the sand dune to look down at her. "Most of the inhabitants of this tower are warriors, after all."
An indulgent smile graced dark lips as he spoke, and she couldn't help a soft, amused chuckle as his wings fluttered behind him. "Restless, hmm?" Definitely a colt. He reminded her of Ollie. "I might be able to help with that, if you're much into sparring." If not, she could probably escort him through the Death ring, if he really wanted to see it.
"My name is Nergui. I'm an elder of Death." At this she offered a dip of her chin in greeting.

"Good," Lurks crooned, hungry for it. It was in his nature to clamor for destruction, to thirst eternal for what he could have but never keep, not for long. The Famine wanted to possess anything he found, to clutch it in his grasp until they stilled only to repeat the process anew. Humans were his favorite things: but they just never lasted. And sometimes, like the Original, they left.
Lurks clapped his hands with a clackity-clack at the offer. "I love to fight," he said, full of awe, with glowing eyes, "Very, very, very much!"
And then he charged.

Lurks howled with pain and laughter at the same time, his bones rattling like the windows of a house.
"I do not like my weapon as much," he muttered with a pout, kicking at the sand. "I like to feel it in my hands, the struggle, the fight, the--"
He continued to talk, all while diving beneath the ground outside, burrowing like some sort of mole. And then he was shooting upwards through the ground beneath Nergui, excitedly wiggling his wings. "Hello! Peekaboo!"
(A word Lurks had learned from his people-watching.)

He was a curious thing, that was for sure.
"That's not bad logic," she'd concede, smiling at him. However Nergui would keep her weapon. It was an extension of her arm, of her entire being. Fear condensed, gathering in her hand where it wrapped around the hilt of her saber.
He dove back beneath the sand, and the smile on the priestess' lips sharpened, eyes narrowing as she watched the ground under foot for any signs of movement before the colt was bursting up directly beneath her.
The buffeting of wings drove her back, disrupting her focus, and when she drove her blade into the sand beside him she missed the dark outline of his shadow by an inch, fear scattering harmlessly as a frustrated growl vibrated at the back of her throat.
Losing was tolerable, but not at the expense of her own failure.

"I know," Lurks said, because he was a smug, useless little s**t who thought he knew best all the time but couldn't ever manage to actually hit anything at least half the time. At least.
Case in point: He tried to use his weapon, swinging the sickle on its chain with rapidly increasing speed--
And then it flew into the air, high high up, and came crashing down.
On his head.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow," he cried, crying fake spider-bug shadow tears, centipede wisps leaking out of his eyes, "ow!"

She watched the circular motion of the scythe before it snapped upward and came down right on top of the boy colt's head with considerable force. It made her wince, sucking in a breath of air through clenched teeth before the appearance of tears(in a matter of speaking) made her hesitate.
That just wasn't fair. Nergui had a very large soft spot for the younger members of the clans, and seeing any one of them in pain brought out a maternal side in the mare that still managed to startle her at times.
"Are you alright?" It was a ridiculous question to ask in the middle of a spar, but it slipped out anyways.
This was still a spar though, and the priestess stood her ground, waiting, watching, but not idly. She was gathering her fear again, and if he happened to look down at the shadow at her feet he'd see it flare, spreading out in a wide circle before receding into near oblivion.
HP: 35 DMG: - FEAR: SS1, SS3, TB2, TE2, TF2
Quote: [ Shadow Charge] - T2 The Eye: The priestess will draw FEAR from her own shadow and use it to bolster the strength of herself or another target. Target subtracts -4 instead of -6 to determine damage. If used and the ally uses a Fear, add +2 to the ACCURACY result/dice. If the Fear does not have an accuracy, add it to the total.

"NooOooOOoo," he wailed, with gasping, wheezing, hiccupy sobs. They were haunted stapler crocodile tears, fat and faker than anything, except for maybe Lurks' sense of empathy.
The fake tears paused, though, when he caught sight of her own fear. He burrowed beneath the ground, exploding out of the sand near it, reaching with greedy little skeleton hands to try and touch the shadow.
"You have them too, the shadows that move and bite and snatch? You too?" All the sadness was gone: there was only childish eagerness.
