"You really inspired me, is it alright if I hang out with you till I feel more confident?
Word around the streets was that the haunted house run by a couple of digimon was one of the scariest in the block. This was Marco's first time going to a haunted house so he wanted to be early to avoid getting lost. He wasn't the best person when it came to directions so if he wanted to be on time then it was best for him to plan ahead. Which is what got him to this current situation. He did manage to find the haunted house, but he arrived quite early and nothing was prepared. Veemon was with him as well as Wormmon; this would be their first time going to a haunted house as well. "That's the haunted house, right?" Veemon asked with an enthusiastic tone. Wormmon was mostly silent, but his eyes said everything; he was looking forward to the haunted house as well. "According to my map, this is the place, but I think we arrived too early." Veemon and Wormmon's ears/antennas lowered in disappointment. "No haunted house?" Marco smiled at his digimon and patted their heads. "We just have to wait until they open," Marco noticed another digimon who was waiting right in front of the house, "and it looks like we're not the only ones early." The digimon duo saw the avian digimon with the colored shell. "Its Toucanmon, he might know when the haunted house opens." Marco nodded and they all decided to approach him.
Toucanmon was waiting outside the house. He was trying to build up courage before the haunted house opened. He really wanted to be the first to enter, but he got scared too easily. He wanted to be brave, but he just didn't know how to approach being brave. "You can do it, Toucanmon. Its only a house and you're brave! Yes you are," the bird digimon continued to repeat that phrase like a mantra. He was so focused on being focused that he didn't noticed when Marco and his digimon approached him. "Hi there," Marco began, but just as soon as those words left his mouth Toucanmon let out a high-pitched scream. "AHH!" Toucanmon jumped up from the fright which caused him to stumble and fall back on his shell. He flailed about which caused his shell to move back and forth like a rocking chair. Veemon started laughing at the sight and Wormmon soon joined him. Once Toucanmon calmed down he sat on the stairs leading to the door of the house with blushed cheeks; he was really embarrassed. Some tears started to form on his eyes. "Cut that out," Marco told his digimon with a stern voice which caused them to immediately seize their laughter. They noticed Toucanmon's current state and understood their mistake. "We're sorry for laughing. That was rude of us," Wormmon was the first to apologize. "Yeah, sorry for laughing at you." Toucanmon remained silent as he started at the ground.
Marco heard some faint sobs. He approached the Toucanmon and kneel down to be at a closer eye-level. "Are you okay?" he was careful to speak in a soft voice so that he wouldn't startle the bird digimon. Toucanmon shook his head, "I'm not brave at all. I don't know why I came here, I'm just going to get scared and they're going to laugh at me." Marco didn't say anything instead he just listened to Toucanmon and waited for him to calm down. "I wish I had courage like my friend Devimon then I wouldn't be scared anymore..." Marco took a sit next to Toucanmon. "Overcoming your fears can be pretty hard..." Veemon and Wormmon joined them on the stairs. "We probably have some time before the haunted house opens. Do you want to hear a story?" Toucanmon nodded so Marco began. "During the summer something happened to me that really got me scared." Marco looked up as he recollected the memories from that day. "I was swimming in the beach with my sister. We only had one board so my sister was using it while I swam." Veemon and Wormmon were paying close attention to Marco while Toucanmon was still looking at the ground. "We were trying to reach this area on the water were the ground was more elevated, but we were getting hit by some pretty tough waves. I tried my best to stay floating since my feet couldn't touch the ground anymore, but my legs and arms were getting tired and the waves were starting to drag me around," Marco closed his eyes remembering the feeling of the salty water going into his nose and mouth. "I was mostly worried about my sister and when I heard her shout I got scared," Marco looked down at Toucanmon and noticed that the bird digimon was paying close attention to him.
"I started crying out for help and I caused a big commotion," Marco chuckled rubbing the back of his head, "we were eventually rescued by my father and a man that decided to help us. It turned out that we weren't that far away from the shore. We were swimming right under an area were the ground was much deeper. If we had just swam a little further ahead then we should have reached more elevated ground." Retelling that embarrassing moment was making him blush which caused the digimon chuckle a little making the air more friendly. "My father was mad. He shouted at us and I was upset as well so I shouted back," Marco's smile faulted a bit, "I didn't realize it at that time, but my father was mad because he got scared when he heard me shouting for help." Toucanmon seemed to be getting more interested in the story. "I was too upset and embarrassed to see it and I was too stubborn to admit that I was scared. I didn't want to accept it." The events of that day thought him something very valuable. "My father decided to go into the beach to swim. I didn't think I was ready to go back to the water. I watched my father walk away and even though I wanted to join him, my legs wouldn't move." Marco looked down at his feet remembering that exact feeling. Toucanmon nodded probably understanding his feelings at that moment. "I continue to watch my father as he entered the water and swam towards the area that my sister and I were trying to reach earlier. I can't explain very well what happened next," Marco placed his hand over his heart, "I knew I was scared to return to the waters, but there was a feeling in my chest that was getting stronger than my fear. I didn't know what that feeling was, but I knew that I couldn't sit still anymore so I stood up and walked towards my father." Marco smiled. "I entered the water and tried to make my way towards him, but I was getting scared again. My father noticed me and he started to giving me instructions." Marco cleared his throat and sat up straight, " he said, 'start swimming, focus, and keep going.' He guided me until I finally reached him." Marco looked back at Toucanmon. "He smiled at me and told me 'good job'..." He waited for his story to sink before he continued any further.
"You...overcame your fear," Touchanmon said. Marco smiled, "I like to think that I did, but I wasn't alone. My father was there for me. I'm not sure if I would have been able to overcome my fear if he wasn't there..." Toucanmon shook his head. "Your father did help you, but you took the initiative yourself." Toucanmon was suddenly serious as he continued talking. "You wanted to overcome your fear and even though you were scared you still went into the water. Your father saw your efforts and he decided to help in his own way. He didn't hold your hand, but instead he encouraged you." Marco smiled at Toucanmon feeling like his story had helped the bird realize something important. "And what about you, Toucanmon? Are you ready?" The bird digimon seemed to have been caught off-guard temporarily, but he quickly recovered and nodded at Marco. "I, I want to have fun and even though I might get scared I don't want to run away." Marco stood up. "Then let's go into the haunted house together." Veemon and Wormmon also stood up. "Yeah! Let's all go together. It will be more fun," Veemon exclaimed and Wormmon agreed with a nod. Toucanmon watched each of them and nodded with a smile. "Having courage doesn't mean not being scared," Marco spoke up, "I think that having courage means moving forward despite being scared." Toucanmon let those words sink. "So its okay if I'm scared?" Marco, Veemon, and Wormmon nodded. Toucanmon smiled with a small blush on his face. "Thank you um sorry, what is your name?"
"My name is Marco Sombra de Milagros," he reached his hand out to Toucanmon. The bird digimon grabbed Marco's hand. "Thank you for your story, Marco."
Witchmon Won By: Kazu Matsumoto
"Hmph, I'm sorry for the trouble I caused, but I'm still miffed I wasn't the host. Oh well, I'm coming with you and you can't stop me this time, and to sweeten the deal, I managed to snag one of those party favors from Myotismon. Darling~."
Kazu and Agumon stood in the foyer of the wrecked haunted house. Myotismon, Devimon and LadyDevimon were frantically sprinting around with feather-dusters and brooms in an attempt to make the place presentable in time for their annual party that evening. Other Tamers had been drafted into performing other tasks for the family and were scurrying around hanging decorations and carving out jack-o-lanterns. Kazu sighed and scratched the back of his head while Agumon played with the red straps entwined around his claws.
"Jeeze Aniki... Why won't they ask us to help with anything?"
Kazu shrugged and wandered over to a hanging skeleton decoration, he slowly raised and arm and poked at the face of the decoration.
"I wouldn't if I were you Aniki..."
Just as the words left Agumon's mouth Kazu's poke dislodged the skeleton and knocked the decoration to the ground with an ear-shattering clatter!
"Um."
Silence. Kazu turned around slowly, only to find all three of the party hosts standing behind him, glowering ferociously into his eyes.
"So... Looks like he has no-body to help him up eh?"
The silence seemed to somehow get even quieter as Kazu's joke fell flat on it's arse. All three hosts pointed to the door.
"Get out! And stay out until we're ready to open!"
A few hours passed. Kazu was atop a small hill and under a low-hanging tree that overlooked the house below. Agumon was lazing peacefully beside him as he lay under the tree, staring at the sky as it began it's slow transformation from blue to orange before finally settling on a deep red along the horizon.
"Man... I just wanted to help."
"Then maybe you shouldn't have been poking stuff like an idiot?"
"Shut-up, I was making sure it was securely fixed to the wall."
"Was it?"
"..."
Kazu sighed and stared back off into the sky. He was always like this, give him a fight or a life-or-death situation and he could spring into action like it was nothing. Faced with socialising? With relaxing? With anything involving others in a normal setting and he became stiff and awkward, unwilling to let his guard down.
"What's the matter darling?"
The new voice snuck up upon Kazu like silk, drawing him towards the source like a moth to a flame. He jumped to his feet and looked around frantically. He could hear the supple voice giggling at him.
"Up here silly!"
Kazu's head snapped up to finally see the source of the voice. Lounging in the sky, dressed in form-fitting red robes and luscious blonde hair was a woman riding atop a broom. Kazu stared at her for a few seconds before snapping back to his senses.
"Um. Hi? No wait, hello! Oh damn it..."
Agumon opened one eye to see what his Tamer was blabbing about, he followed the gaze of his tongue-tied Tamer until he also spotted the floating woman.
"Wait... Isn't that..."
"Now then darling. What's a handsome man and a strong-looking Digimon such as yourselves doing out here all by yourselves?"
The lady winked slyly at Kazu, uncontrollably the Tamer could feel his face heating up and turning red. Agumon lifted himself to his feet and stood protectively next to his Tamer.
"Aniki... That's Witchmon. She's the one who trashed the house."
Kazu's blush was in full force, but it didn't stop him from understanding his partner. He shook his head and gently clapped his hands on his cheeks a few times to focus.
"S-so she's the one who caused those poor hosts all this bother?"
Agumon nodded and slightly raised his claws. Witchmon sighed and slowly floated down from her perch in the sky until she was the same eye level as Kazu.
"It's true! I trashed the house... But I feel so bad about it! I was jealous and foolish. I never meant to ruin their party..."
The witch Digimon sniffled as she spoke, turning her head down so that Kazu couldn't see her eyes for her hat; tiny drops of water dropped to the ground from under the brim. The Tamer reached out and awkwardly patted her on the shoulder.
"There-there... I'm sure we can sort out this mess... I mean, if they'll still listen to me..."
Withcmon raised her head at this comment, her eyes full of tears. She grabbed Kazu by the shoulders and pulled him in for a hug.
"They kicked you out too? Oh darling! Why?"
Kazu was taken aback by the sudden hug and his face turned a deeper shade of red. Agumon on the other hand shot the witch a scowl and let out a short growl.
"That's not what happened. We're just waiting until the party starts later."
Witchmon shot the briefest glare at Agumon before turning back to Kazu, tears still rolling down her cheeks.
"I... Accidentally knocked down a decoration and they asked me to leave..."
Witchmon looked taken-aback. She pulled Kazu in for another hug before a barrage of words flew from her mouth.
"Oh you poor darling, come here let me give you a hug, we're both so hard done by, we should go down there now and talk to those nasty hosts, why should we have to be left out of the party, why don't we go together, it's a total disgrace, I can't believe they're so mean, aren't parties meant for everyone, this is discrimination, what do you think?"
Kazu looked dazed from the amount of talking Witchmon was doing, but none-the-less he nodded and said, in a slightly weak voice;
"I mean... I guess we could talk to them..."
At Kazu's response Witchmon let him go from her hug and clasped her hands together in glee. Kazu took an awkward step backwards and scratched his head.
"Well I guess if we go together then they'll understand..."
Agumon shook his head and pointed at the tree.
"C'mon Aniki! we only have to wait another hour then we can just go to the party. Why risk being uninvited by going with her? She totaled the house!"
Witchmon's eyes filled up with water once again, looking like she was on the verge of crying, Kazu noticed this and frowned at Agumon.
"C'mon dude. Be nice to her, she's in the same boat as us."
Agumon threw his arms in the air in exasperation.
"Whatever. Don't cry to me later!"
Kazu sighed and turned his back to Agumon and Witchmon,
"Sorry you feel that way buddy. I'm gonna talk to the hosts with Witchmon, see if we can iron this out. I'll see you later."
Agumon let out a gruff sigh and crossed his arms.
"Fine."
Kazu began to walk away back to the house, Witchmon floated after him, a wry smile on her lips. Agumon looked on after them, angry that his Tamer was choosing a stranger over him. As he watched them walk he noticed Witchmon's hand slowly raising into the air. Two long, curved and sharp blades began to protrude from the back of her hand, the deep red light of the setting sun glinted off of the blades first, then the unmistakable, toothy smile that adorned her face...
"Aniki... ANIKI!"
The screaming alerted Kazu just in time. He turned around in time to see the bladed hand swipe for him. In an instant he hopped backwards, the tips of the blades catching his shirt as he retreated. His foot came to rest on the uneven ground, he let out a grunt as he lost his balance and landed on his behind.
"Ha! If I kill you then nobody will go to their stinking party! They'll be too scared that the same will happen to them! And then everyone will have to admit that I should be the one true host of these parties!""
Kazu's eyes were wide, his pupils tiny. This Digimon was insane! Trying to kill him for the sake of hosting a party. The witch was bathed in the red light of the setting sun as she lifted her arm into the air once more. She licked her lips as her wild eyes locked onto the center of Kazu's chest.
"Now... DIE!!!"
"Aniki!"
Kazu slammed his eyes shut as she lunged. There was a loud grunt, then silence. Kazu opened his eyes to see Agumon stood before him, both of the orange Digimon's hands were clamped around the witch's, the blades on her hand inches away from Agumon's chest.
"Agumon..."
Agumon shook his head and let a rough smile take up his face.
"You can apologise by letting me fight her!"
Kazu nodded and smiled back, he grabbed his Digivice from his waist and jumped to his feet. Witchmon's crazy-eyes jumped from Tamer to Partner before she let out a howling scream and flew backwards to gain some distance from the duo.
"How's about we level up eh?"
"I'll kill you! Get out of my way! Poison Storm!"
Withcmon lifted both her hands above her head, in the space between her palms a wobbling purple orb began to form, she let out another piercing scream and fired the orb towards Agumon and Kazu.
"Now!"
Kazu held his Digivice out infront of him, focusing his inner energies into the device and causing it to glow with a sharp white light.
~BGM: Believer~
Agumon writhed and struggled, as if his own skin had become his enemy. The usually tough exterior began to bubble and ripple as something within him fundamentally changed. The small Digimon curled up into a ball, gripping his sides tightly. In a flash he threw all of his limbs out to the side and let out a primal roar.
"Agumon! Shinka!!!"
His skin tore and ripped from his body, revealing a green and black wire-frame beneath. The wire-frame became covered in a white light, stretching and molding into a taller and broader shape. New skin, this time orange with blue-stripes wrapped itself around the wire-frame body. In a huge burst of light Agumon was reformed.
"GeoGrey---"
GeoGreymon was cut off as the poison orb slammed into him, exploding on impact and sending smoke high into the sky. Kazu coughed and spluttered as the smog cleared. The giant dinosaur's tail was wrapped around him in order to protect his Tamer. Kazu grinned and patted his partner.
"Impressive big guy. You're learning to Evolve faster."
A low rumbling noise responded to Kazu's statement. The Tamer gently ran his hand along the hardened tail.
"Sorry about earlier buddy. Shall we show her whose boss?"
The rumbling noise peaked for a second as if to agree with Kazu. Kazu stepped up over the tail so he was stood by GeoGreymon's side. The huge dinosaur uncurled itself so it was standing it's full size, towering above the tree atop the hill.
Witchmon meanwhile had been knocked back by the force of the explosion and was lying on the ground, staring at the gigantic monster before her. Her eyes were large as saucers as she gawped at he foe.
"I... You... Graaaaaah!"
The witch raised both her arms once more. This time however swirling winds surrounded her hands.
"Baluluna Gale!!!"
She thrust her hands towards GeoGreymon and fired a huge stream of wind-based energy.
"Evil... I will crush!"
GeoGreymon took the brunt of the attack head-on. The wind was infused with the witch's magic, making it sharp to the touch. Small cuts began to open across the orange dinosaur's body, but it paid them no heed.
"One shot. With one glorious burst we will purify her soul. Maybe she'll be reborn as a good Digimon."
GeoGreymon's mouth filled with burning flames, the dinosaur Digimon took a mighty gulp of air, dragging the infused wind into his lungs, not caring about the cuts it gave him. GeoGreymon's entire body began to glow, Kazu raised a hand to shield his eyes from the beacon next to him. Witchmon dead at the shining Dinosaur before her, frozen by fear.
"End it!"
Kazu's shout served as GeoGreymon's signal. He lurched forwards, opening his mouth as wide as he could as he did so.
"Mega Volcano!"
A literal eruption burst forth from GeoGreymon's mouth, condensed and refined volcanic power scorched the very air as it hurtled towards Witchmon.
"You... BAST------"
The wall of flaming energy engulfed her in seconds, and deleted her just as quickly. The blast carried on, incinerating the tree before it finally curved upwards, petering out as it arced into the sky.
An hour or so passed before the hosts of the party made their way to the top of the hill. Tiny fires still smouldered on tufts of grass, and the crater where the tree used to be was still billowing smoke. LadyDevimon sighed,
"Look at the mess they've made... I knew we shouldn't have invited him."
Myotismon nodded to mimic the sentiment. Devimon however cocked his head to one side.
"I can feel magic here. Similar to what Witchmon did to our house..."
The three hosts stared at the destruction before them, puzzled.
"Um... Sorry about the tree."
The hosts spun around to face the familiar voice. Kazu was lying on the side of the hill, Agumon's head resting on his chest, above the tear in his Tamer's shirt. He snored loudly in his sleep. The Tamer waved, and gave the hosts his cheesiest smile.
"There was an uninvited guest. So I asked her to leave."
The hosts looked at each other sheepishly, hoping Kazu hadn't overheard their earlier comments. The Tamer gently shook Agumon awake and hopped to his feet.
"Y'know what? I could really go for some punch."
Agumon nodded meekly, he was worn out after the scuffle. The three hosts looked between one another before grabbing the pair and bustling them back down towards the house, offering them sweets and snacks by way of an apology for the way they treated him earlier. As they entered the house Kazu smiled warmly to Agumon.
"Let's try not to break anything eh?"
Kazu and Agumon burst out laughing as they settled into the party at last.
~The End~
Kazu looked dazed from the amount of talking Witchmon was doing, but none-the-less he nodded and said, in a slightly weak voice;
