(Well! It’s been a week since I posted my inquiry about people wanting to do a WH40K RP. Despite the lack of replies, I feel obligated to at least give the OOC thread a go... here goes!)

The green horde has overwhelmed the planet.

You have come to the Imperium’s defense. You stand alongside guardsmen of the Astra Militarum, scions of the Militarum Tempestus, space marines of the Adeptus Astartes, battle-sisters of the Adepta Sororitas, and the many other soldiers of the Empire of Mankind. Fanciful rumor has it that there are even some xenos allied to the army...

You arrived in a massive fleet with enough firepower and bodies to overwhelm the orks infesting the planet, and you were expected to render the planet compliant, certified greenskin-free, in less than three months. But, fate being a harsh mistress, things didn’t go according to plan.

You came to reclaim the planet. But, even as you pulled into low-orbit, another ork fleet arrived in-system with little-to-no warning, and in the stupidest manner possible: translating from the warp in planetary orbit. Gellar fields down, the essence of the immaterium swept over scores of Imperial ships, and these were lost to the perils of the Warp. Other ships tried to enter the material realm in spots already occupied by Imperial ships, and these were mutually annihilated. Those ships not claimed by accident immediately set about destroying each other conventionally, with torpedo and las-fire.

But that is not your story. Your ships were claimed early in the catastrophe, and you made it to your escape pods and emergency shuttles, taking your chances on the relative safety of the beleaguered world below as the void-ships went to war. The events in orbit are none of your concern: let your own survival in the face of the ork horde planetside occupy your attention for a while!

You find your way toward Alpha-Deco-Breaker, one of the PDF’s few remaining strongholds on the planet. The comms relay is still operational, and it’s calling out for any survivors to make their way there to rally in the face of overwhelming odds. Alpha-Deco-Breaker consists of a pair of Imperial Bastions (thick and slab-sided buildings bristling with heavy bolters and quad-guns) and makeshift tents and relief facilities surrounded by a network of razor-wire perimeters, minefields, and heavy-weapons emplacements. Slowly, the survivors filter in...

Will you join them, or will you deprive the human defenders of your expertise when they need it most and fight alone...?

-----

So! That’s your intro! Welcome to my RP!

As the prompt states, you’re a soldier in the 41st millennium, coming to the aid of Planet In Distress 419 when everything goes ploin-shaped, and you have to survive on the ground and hopefully make a difference in the wide scheme of things. I’m going to control the NPCs and the orks, but you make a character and have fun killing my doodz in green waves! Raarrgh!

Now, what kind of character can you play? I’m pretty danged amenable to whatever you come up with, so long as he or she’s not too outlandish. I’m okay with you playing a Sister of Battle, Space Marine, Guardsman/Scion, or pretty much anything that’s not in the same tier as a Space Marine captain (SOMEBODY’s got to give you the plot hooks for you to use, after all...). For example:

Chaplains are good, Reclusiarchs/Interrogators are not.
Codicier librarians are good, Epistolaries/Chief Librarians are not
Retributors and Battle Sisters are good, Cannonesses are not.
Commissars and Tempestors are good, Lord Commissars and Tempestor Primes are not.
Platoon Officers (Lieutenants) are fine, Company Officers (Captains) are not.

I also approve of the grunts. You may be in the lower power-tier as far as available characters go, but we’re not exactly following the tabletop rules, and you can probably roleplay something amazing: be that lone Guardsman that ties up Ghazghkull in melee for three rounds! Pick up a sword, a few grenades, and a lead pipe and show that Baneblade who’s boss!

Now... technically, I will not be opposed to you if you choose to play a non-Imperial character. As stated in the flavor text, there were rumors that some of them joined the battle on the Imperial side, so they may have some survivors! However, I must put the following stipulations on such characters:

1 - Limit yourself to the undercommanders, specialists, or low-key troopers, as stated above for the Imperial players: I don’t want to see an Autarch complaining to the chefs about the mon-keigh rations, nor do I want to see a Destroyer Lord hacking into the radio to send offensive messages to the ork warlord. I ultimately have final say over which characters are permissible, and you’ll need to come up with a convincing story for why the Imperials are tolerating your presence.
2 – You cannot play an ork or a tyranid. The orks are the villains of the RP, and the Imperials offer free (and compulsory) napalm-baths and puncture wounds to any greenskin they see: your character is shot on arrival, and I’d rather not have the first thing that your allies do be to fight you. Furthermore, the only way that tyranids work with people is if they’re stealing their genes... they’re villains-only, and they’re far beyond the scope of this RP.
3 – NO CHAOS. NO. NO. NO. NO. HERESY!! NO. NO. Everything I said about Orks in #2, TIMES TEN.

If you want in, cool! Post your prospective character in this thread, and I’ll clear or decline it through a PM. If it’s declined, I’ll be sure to explain my decision in the reply. Please use the following format, or something similar, to describe your character...

Name (ex: Brother Nu’roth, Sister Azula Mendoza, etc)
Faction (ex: Space Marines (Salamanders), Sisters of Battle, etc)
Rank (ex: Codicier, Retributor, etc)
Profession (ex: Librarian, Heavy Flamer specialist, etc)
Personality (ex: Unusually perky for a Sister of Battle, but she positively lights up whenever she sees a heretic in need of burning. She has a tendency to make flame-based puns and one-liners as she incinerates people. Despite these jokes, metaphors aimed at her go right over her head, so, if you tell her that you need her to “start a barbeque” at Outpost Command-D, she’ll start looking for ground grox patties and metal spatulas rather than hustling over to join a firefight.)
Background/History (ex:... you know, I’m going to let you come up with your own stories, and I don’t feel like explaining Sister Azula’s: she’s taken on a life of her own, and I may end up using her as an NPC.)
Equipment (ex: Power armor. Psychic Hood, Force Sword, bolt pistol, frag and krak grenades...)
Appearance (If you’ve got a picture, show it! Or, if you want to write it out... (ex: Eight feet tall and covered in blue power armor that’s been covered in black soot by his recent ordeals, Brother Nu’roth is a striking figure. His skin is coal-black and his eyes are a blazing red, but his head, the only part of his body not covered by his armor, is bathed in a blue light from the glow of his psychic hood. A cloak made of bronze scales is draped over his wide shoulders, and various amulets and trinkets hang off his power armor on golden chains. He carries a richly-decorated force-sword at all times, which is completely covered in filigree and engravings depicting dragons and lizards))

If I get at least three willing players with approved characters, I’ll start the IC thread and we can begin playing! If not... well, I thought it was a nice idea, at least... <<;;

Ah! Thank you! smile Tentatively or not, thanks for showing interest. I was starting to think this wasn't going to get any replies. Out of curiosity, what kind of character are you thinking of playing??

Name: Grolius Machina
Faction: Adeptus Astartes (Black Templar)
Rank: Captain
Profession: Terminator
Personality: Noble and inspiring in battle, sweet and flattering when not. He is considered one of the friendliest battle brothers to fight along side on the battlefield and many of his troops honor him and obey his every command.
Background/History:
"It is now the 41st Millenium. In the grim darkness of the far future...there is only war. Our beloved and all powerful Emperor of mankind wages a constant battle to protect the Imperium from the horrors of the warp, while we are left to the task of guarding the Imperium along side him, striking down those who would do us harm.

But now he is dying, withering away like a frail old man and the royal psychers can do nothing to stop it. I refuse to let our beloved Emperor perish, I will find a way to restore him, even if I die or become an enemy to the Imperium in the process. All in his glory...

...for the Emperor protects us all."

-Grolius Machina

Equipment: Heavily modified and advanced Tactical Dreadnought armor fitted with two Power fists and a jetpack along with an Assault Cannon and Heavy Bolter, both modified to be held by Power fists. Crux Terminatus on left shoulder. (It would kinda look like this, but with all the stuff described plus the helmet being black and having the right eye being red and a scratch going down the left eye making it look like a scar)
Appearance: Face (plus a scar going over his left eye and his left eye looking completely blind)

Name: Wolf Guard Jace Blackmane, ‘The Living Hurricane’, ‘Beta’
Faction: Space Wolves
Rank: Wolf Guard, sub division of 1st Company (Like a Sergeant for other Chapters)
Profession: Seeker of Russ, Peacekeeper
Personality: Always pleased to see his fellow brothers and members of the Imperial Guard, Jace has been known to celebrate and mourn with those he serves with. Usually very temperamental, he is quick to laugh with anyone who he calls a friend, and defend them to whatever end just as he is to fly off and start a fight even with his Brothers in other Chapters. Like most Wolves, he drinks heavily, and shares what his pack brings with any fool heart Marine who dares to attempt Fenrisian Ale. However, to members of the Inquisition, any branch, he is distant and cold; almost refusing to acknowledge their presence.
Background/History: The Wanderers are members of the Space Wolves’ First Company, though they do not fight alongside their other Pack mates. The Wanderers are tasked with two missions: to find the Whereabouts of their lost Primarch Leman Russ and to attempt to mend the relationships harmed by the standard interactions Space Wolves have with other Chapters. It is rumored… that should the Wolves find Russ, that they have a way to save the All-Father (The Emperor)…

The Wanderers themselves consist of the Alpha, Wanderer Lord Primus and 10 other Combat ready Marines including Jace, a Dreadnaught ‘The Old One’, a Space Wolf Tech-Priest and his five Servitors and the Thuderhawk ‘Den Mother’. Normally incapable of Warp Travel, the Wanderers usually attach themselves to other Chapters attempting to fulfill their second objective as they travel to fight the Imperium’s foes and to find the Lost Russ.

Jace would earn his rank and nickname during the battle to defend Cadia once again. His pack and several units of Imperial Guard were tasked with holding their defensive positions. As Chaos forces attacked, Wanderer Lord Primus gave the order to Counterattack, and the Wolves charged head long into the oncoming Traitors. Jace, one of the first into the fray, drew his weapons and began to create a blender like effect until he finally reached the Chaos Champion leading the attack. With a mighty blow, the Chaos Marine cast Jace aside, but rather then cower, he charged back at the Traitor, with a weapon of any kind; save for his bare fists. With titanic blows, Jace laid the heretic low, and his Packmates began to call him 'the Living Hurricane.'
Equipment:
Power Sword – The Sword of Champions – Reforged after every battle with the blades of fallen foes
Power Axe – Luna – Rumored to be named after his mate
Bolt Pistol - Standard Marine Issue
Runic Power Armor – Space Wolf Specific Artificer Armor
Frag Grenades, Krak Grenades, and Melta Bombs

Appearance:
7’2 outside of armor – over 9’ wearing his armor. He was considered a mountain of a man, even before becoming a Space Marine
Runic armor is the Standard Space Wolf Grey-Blue, matching the rest of his unit. His helmet is the Standard Wolf Head of his Chapter, again, displaying his rank .
Wolf talismans, Wolf Tails and belts adorn his armor as well as members of his pack.

Applicants! We have APPLICANTS! > biggrin !!! Thanks for your submissions and shows of interest! I've gone ahead and edited the first post of the thread to include a list of Gaians and their stage of acceptance into the RP. Right now, we've got two players whose characters are pending (I'm working things out with you on the side first), and two who have shown interest but haven't fully committed yet.

Now... that news above is great, but I've noticed a trend in the applications, and I feel that I have to clarify this in the thread itself. In the first post, I put this piece in:

Quote:
Now, what kind of character can you play? I’m pretty danged amenable to whatever you come up with, so long as he or she’s not too outlandish. I’m okay with you playing a Sister of Battle, Space Marine, Guardsman/Scion, Assassin, or pretty much anything that’s not in the same tier as a Space Marine captain (SOMEBODY’s got to give you the plot hooks for you to use, after all...). Pick up a sword, a few grenades, and a lead pipe and show that Baneblade who’s boss!

Currently, I'm talking with the two Pending players about this, and we're taking steps to address it. All future, prospective players: please heed this stipulation as you make your characters!

Also, thought I didn't say it in the initial post, please limit yourself to only one character for the duration of the RP. If you're a sergeant, and your squad's heavily tied to your character, you won't be controlling them during the RP. However... well, everybody loves the cavalry, right? If you list allies, you won't start out with them in the RP, but they miiiiiight show up at a later point. After all, there are still survivors of the orbital catastrophe homing in on the comms relay...

Anyway! With that bit of information out of the way, I'm excited to see where this is going! smile Thanks for your show of support!

Well, before I create my entry I would like to ask. Are 30k chapters of the Imperium acceptable? I play a Emperor's Children themed army (Obviously following the rules of the codex) but the back story I came up with for them was when Fulgrim turned to chaos and his chapter got exiled some stayed behind as loyalists to the emperor and are trying to bring redemption and punish the heretics and cleanse the chapter of it's bad history kinda cliché and what every chapter's goal is at least on some level but, you get the point. Or would you prefer that I stuck to the remaining chapters after the Heresy?

Ooooh... I've heard of an army concept like that before, and I thought it was interesting. The other time, it was the loyalists on Istvaan III who survived the bombardments and somehow found a way off-planet. But that's immaterial: if you want to go for that concept, go for it! Canon and Fanon are rife with loyalist descendants of traitor legions: the Blood Ravens are pretty much confirmed to be descended fr(INQUISITORIAL REDACTION), the Scary Marines (Children of Istvaan) are Night Lords-based, the Grey Knights were co-founded by at least one Death Guard and World Eater... so! If you want your character to come from a chapter descended from the Emperor's Children, cool!

The only request that I make of you is a nitpick, and a cosmetic one at that. Please don't actually call his chapter the Emperor's Children. Using that name in the wider Imperium is kind of like ringing the Inquisition's dinner bell... If you've got another name lined up for them, then great! I'll be happy to have you!

I'm thinking about joining too. But my knowledge in the warhammer 40k lore is lacking just a bit atm. Not to mention, I'm going to be busy for a while with my studies, lore studies and job, so apologies If I become absent for a while. ninja

Anyway, I was wondering if I could join as an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor? Seeing how I fashioned my avi after one. Any tips and advice will be very appreciated greatly. smile

Oi, ya bloody gitz! Wez gonna break yaz! Krump ya rioght proppa and take all yer shiny gubbinz. WAAAAAGH!

Low Gothic Translation: As interesting as this is, I'm terribly sorry, but I just cannot at the moment think of a concept and, well, I'm more looking for someone that will let me Ork it up somewhere. One of the banes of my Rogue Trader playing, no GM or RT will let me play one.

I will submit an application if I gain a proper character idea.

Hm... I'd say yes and no to that one... Inquisitors have it in their power to requisition pretty much any resource in the Imperium short of the Custodes, and that would put you pretty firmly in the lead of the players. Well... anyone who's not a Space Wolf or Black Templar, anyway, since they don't get along kindly with the Inquisition...

Anyway! I'm amenable to you playing a member of the Inquisition, but not a full inquisitor: specifically, try an Acolyte. They get access to a number of the cool toys that Inquisitors get (including the nice hat... ;;>>), but they don't have the full power of their mentors (generals, governors, captains, etc can push back and apply pressure), and inquisitors often send their.acolytes out on missions that the inquisitor himself can't partake in. This gives you an excuse to show up on the planet as a member of the Inquisition and, more importantly, the owner of a really snazzy hat. >D

Just don't be surprised if an ork with a tricorn hat comes after you to steal it!
