He had awoken in this place with no guide, no instruction, no name, and no others about to enlighten him. He had basic instincts- the need to eat, the need to sleep, the quiet curious questions that any living being would face- but beyond that he was as oblivious to the world as any of his brethren. He found himself quietly drawn to the water. He could almost feel a kinship with the life giving lifeblood that flowed through the land. Rivers cut through the land, washing into lakes, pouring and spilling over ledges, filling the air with a gentle mist, and occasionally falling from the skies themselves. There was a peace about it...but there was more to that. The water held within it power.
He watched the flow of the river, steady and gentle in parts and furious in others. The water boiled and surged, unyielding against the obstacles in its way. The clear, reflective surface became bubbly and white- much like the clouds above. He quietly wondered if the clouds weren't just another river above them, the blue flowing gently at times and the clouds being a furious boil as they met with some unseen obstacle. Perhaps the sky was just a river and they were living under it.
He didn't know what to make of the darkness that began to seize the clouds in the distance. It wasn't white or blue...rather, it was an angry gray color, nearly black in parts over the distant horizon. The male watched in silence, allowing the wind to toss his fur about as he drew in a deep breath. There was something in the air... a depth. He didn't know it yet, few would know, but a storm was brewing.

The male closed his eyes and lifted his head, letting the strange smells and the electricity in the air wash over him. The air currents felt different, shifting like the current of the river. He felt something almost creep down his back, sinking deep into his fur, and surrounding his other senses in a veil. It was powerful, alien, fearful, terrible, wonderful, and mysterious all wrapped in a strange bundle.
He tensed as something shifted nearby. Moved. A scent he didn't recognize mingled and soon overcame the subtle, distant smell of the incoming storm. His ears snapped back and a terrible glare shot from himself to the strange female. At first, he didn't know what to expect. The world was new to him. He was as ignorant as a newborn creature. He'd never seen one of his own, or one of any other creature other than, up to this point, fish and bugs.
There was little welcome in his gaze. The male wasn't sure what to make of this other creature. He dropped his head slightly, not enough to show any sort of submission but enough to give him an unwelcoming sort of look to him.
