This is a dark forest that appeals to few people. Some elves like it, as well as nature lovers, or people who enjoy getting lost. However, it is also beautiful and brilliant in all seasons. It is said to be haunted by the spirit of a Dark, a god. He was said to be murdered by a human Light, and has been too unsettled to leave since. Many come to pray to him, and its believed that he sometimes comes to give advice.

By the time Fesle had made it back to the kitchen, everyone had decided to take a break for their personal meals, something that Fesle didn't have to worry about for probably a week or so. So, he had taken his leave to get started on work for the less important kitchens of the kingdom, such as the Bitter Crows Tavern, which was in need of some filler meats ever since the local butcher upped the price on poultry. Usually, he could round up enough rats in town to satisfy them, but the new cook was being picky and thought rats to be too tasteless or some other adjective Fesle didn't pay attention to.

That was why Fesle was spending the latter half of his day out in the Harpi Forest, human form dispelled as he slithered up trees in hunt for whatever birds he could find. He had a medium-sized sack left at the base of the current tree he was curling up, three small catches already tossed inside it. He didn't worry very much over fellow predators stealing it, considering he was confident he could take them out before they got close. Besides, most wild animals knew better than to take a chance on a giant snake monster and would flee if he made his presence known without a fight. He wrapped himself along the upper trunk of the tree, extending out above the canopy to survey the sky. On rare occasions, he could snatch a fowl mid-flight if they were low enough, but, really, he was more up there for pleasure.

The sunlight felt nice after being in the forest's shade for so long. He slithered up further and draped himself carefully along the top branches of his current tree. Sometimes, it was easier to wait for game to find him, he thought in excuse for his laziness as he relaxed.

(( Just aimlessly tossing him somewhere. xD ))

Memel walked hesitantly into the forest. The area was not the most comforting and she did not like the atmosphere, but she was sure that it was the way to the marketplace. She looked over to Vel, a hesitant expression on her face. "I think this is the right way." She said cautiously, not wanting to upset the man next to her. She felt tears threatening to overflow as she looked to her toes, stopping in their place. "Nevermind. I know we're lost." She said hopelessly before looking up at Vel with a sad expression.

Upon a slumbering forest a new beast came to see the dark one.. perhaps no better than anything else slithering around here but certainly less fitting. The wind that guided her arrival spoke soft whispers in many strange tongues as she drew the life force right out of much she passed by, killing nothing yet distorting the appearance of the forest path she'd taken somewhat. A snack as she walked along a new path to the shrine she sought. Hopefully there was one. She'd not fear getting trapped or lost in this forest, getting stuck here or there wouldn't be of much consequence as long as it was still somewhere, anywhere at all. Oblivion, a place outside of existence was the only place she truly dislike the idea of an eternity in.

As she walked she came upon a sack in the forest... She had expected elves perhaps but she was hoping for something more... sophisticated from such beings. Now that she thought about it maybe she had grown fond of civilization. The blonde would examine this though not approach. She could taste the fresh serpentine creature nearby as she drew essence from around her. She saw nothing large enough to leave such a strong taste.. Or perhaps it climbed the tree??? can snakes do such a thing? She pondered imagining the horror of even worse things, like snakes that learn to fly or float in the devices of the old humans somehow. She was certain they could make one. Absolutely dreadful!!!

She would call out, though not to the snake itself but to the trees. "Tree's of this forest, which of your brethren hides the snake creature. I wish to observe this thing" Nevermind that a snake had a bag for some reason. This was simply absurd and fascinating. Perhaps she should attempt to kill it.. or flee if she couldn't.. she pondered further, listening, watching, tasting, and waiting within a rather large space where the air would seem to be filled with a strangely pleasant yet alarm raising miasma like death caressing gently as it reached into ones pocket to collect tax.

Vel crept alongside the petite handmaiden. Why he'd allowed Memel to drag him so far out of Light territory, he would never know. Maybe it was her constant reassurance that they were on the correct route to the market that kept him going; or maybe it was because she refused to listen to the directional advise that he gave her. One thing was for sure though. He'd allowed her to drag him along far too long, and now he had no way of knowing how they'd return to their own territory, especially in a dense and confusing forest such as this. He had no map, but he suspected that they were somewhere within Dark territory. And the further they trekked into this hostile, unknown territory, the more urgent and wary Vel became. He found his hand often traveling to the sheathed sword on his waist at the slightest rustles from the surrounding brush. Being apart of the Acreos family, and because he could be identified as such by his tattoos, could spell his potential doom.

Vel turned his attention down to handmaiden, who was more outwardly fearful about their situation than he was. A weak smile came to his lips once she finally came to admit that they were lost.
"Yeah- you could say that again." He attempted to reassure her by adding, "I'm sure we're not too far from it now. We just have to get back on the path."

From somewhere off into the distance, he heard a faint calling. Vel couldn't exactly make out what it was saying, but he once again reached for the handle of his sword. Vel wasn't exactly sure what direction it was coming from, and he didn't want to find out. To be honest, he wasn't even sure if what he heard was real. It could be just some paranoid hallucination brought upon by his anxiety. He walked a bit forward, loosening the grip on the handle of the sword. Turning back to Memel, he signaled at her to follow him, before he turned back around and crept further into the dense, foreboding forest.

Something large was in the area. Fesle had been picking up on the heat signatures of all kinds of creatures as he relaxed, but the majority had been more.. rodent-sized, not the human—no, humans—that casually approached his general vicinity. They were coming from different directions, too, although he didn't know if it was an organized attack or not. He didn't really care.

Fesle carefully drew his scaly half back towards himself, doing his best not to jostle the more delicate branches he had spread out over. He eyed the ground below blindly, hoping whoever was approaching was dumb enough to have a lantern or something on them, although it was clearly daytime. No such luck in that department, but the solution loudly made itself known as one of the humans started to shout. He smiled as his tongue darted out to confirm which direction she was in before he quickly made his quiet way down the tree. He was almost close enough to swing himself down to lunge at her, his tail already winding around a thick branch to prepare for his attack, but his tongue darted back out and he froze up.

Nope. No way. Fesle wasn't that dumb. He unwound his tail from the branch, curled it back up under him, and willed it to melt away back into regular old human legs. The entire air had tasted of danger and he knew much better than to attack a fellow predator without reason. As his eyes adjusted almost painfully back to normal vision, he dropped down clumsily from the branch he was on and stared at the female. She didn't look dangerous, though she was heavily decorated and there was no denying she was the source of that miasma.

“That's mine.” He skipped greetings as he realized she was situated right near his sack and, underneath that sack, his shoes. He didn't dare to move closer, though, not without her making some kind of movement first. “Are the other people with you?” He asked after a beat, remembering the other two he had sensed in his previous form, although he couldn't tell which direction they were without his tail. Ah, well, it was important to appear nonthreatening around people such as her; he would have to deal with it.

Her eye's would flicker with an ancient power far older than any demon, herself or even any demon in this cursed forest. They flickered with a savage lust. "It seems not only do snakes now climb trees they also turn into handsome young men.. I am not alone, you must accompany me even if its inside my belly." She'd point her staff at him flaunting a magical charismatic aura about her despite the offsetting aura of slow, deathly essence theft surrounding her. "If you run my curiousity shall chase you to the ends of this world, come closer if even for a moment won't you?" She was actually attempting humor.. she wasn't entirely sure if this was the right place for such a thing but perhaps it wouldn't be lost on him.. Surely if he carried a sack around he wasn't so barbaric as the typical snake.

Memel followed Vel's lead, a bit of panic coming over her. She hadn't heard anything out of the ordinary herself, but she trusted Vel to know better than her. As she followed the man she felt herself becoming more unsteady. She did not usually leave headquarters, and she usually only left the light haven with Luna. The fear was causing her to become clumsy. As they came to a more dense are Memel stumbled over a rock, falling to the ground. She quickly found her balance and shot Vel a fearful look, not knowing if whoever they were hiding from heard the sound.

“I am not just a 'snake', anymore than you are just a mortal woman.” Fesle pointed out, feeling a little offended at the idea that anyone could lump him in with his lesser brethren. He brushed aside the irritation, however, as the rest of her behavior was fairly friendly, with the more questionable vibes she gave off being easily attributed to hunger. He carefully stepped closer at her request, raising his brows as he locked his gaze onto hers. Oh. So this was a.. different sort of hunger. Fesle relaxed and considered her more intensely, but, before he could finish his inspection, a sound jerked his attention to the right.

He glanced back to her, “Is that your 'Curiosity'?” He didn't mean it as a joke—Fesle had assumed the 'curiosity that shall chase him to the ends of this world' was some kind of familiar of hers. Otherwise, why else would she say she wasn't alone? He looked back to the forest in search of the source again, sorely tempted to shift back to his Lamia form, but he had to resist in case the female would consider it an act of aggression. He didn't mind a fight, but he would like to avoid one if he could.

Not a snake? And yet the presence of a snake was unmistakable. Nay something similar could make such things as well. What was like a snake yet not a snake... whatever it was it was basically still a snake. Though perhaps a snake wouldn't know what an immortal was, not a young one anyways. "Are you a wild creature? No, wild creatures don't carry bag around." she'd look him over like an appraiser examining a mere object. The fact he appeared to be intelligent was hardly an obstacle. She'd sense something nearby.. decay outside her own? A fading life, a small one. She'd appear to be sensing something a bit more complicated than the obvious.. whatever that was in the distance. Another of this type she hoped. "It would seem you hunt small game. Whatever manner of creature you are, can you be seduced with food and perhaps some treasures as well? I wish to be escorted deeper into this great dwelling to where the sleeping ancient one rests. Refusal would only serve to complicate both our lives." She'd half threaten in vague terms not really caring how it was taken.

Vel flinched as Memel tumbled to the ground beside him, emitting quite an audible ruckus. His whole body tensed up, and for a long moment he scanned the forest for anyone that might approach on their location. There was nothing. After nothing happened, Vel shot Memel a splenetic scowl. He knelt over and grasped Memel's wrist, wrenching the handmaiden to her feet. In a hushed whisper he told her,
"You have to stay on your feet if we're going to get out of this forest. Now come-on, we've stayed for far too long." He pulled the girl along behind him, since she couldn't be trusted to walk on her own. A few minutes later, he could swear he heard the vague sound of idle chatter nearby. Vel paused where he stood, only to turn to Memel with his index facing up and pressed against his lips. He listened closer for the direction in which the voices came from. After further investigation, he determined they were coming somewhere ahead of them, and slightly off to the left. They were closer than he was comfortable with as well.

Anxious beads of sweat slinked down Vel's forehead. He feared that Memel's clumsiness might force them to encounter the voices ahead of them. And if her inability to walk was any indication, there was no way he'd be able to rely on her if they became confined to combat. A soft sigh escaped the elf, as he accepted that the two of them might be in serious trouble. He turned to the girl and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Wait here. I'm going to make sure that it's safe up ahead. And if anything happens, make sure you stay hidden." And with that being said, Vel spun towards the direction of the sound. He wanted to get a better judgement on just how many of them there were up ahead. If he was lucky, maybe he'd even be able to neutralize them before they became a threat. The young elf crept low through the green forestry. The crinkling of leaves beneath his feet felt louder than it should have been.

He was now close enough to actually make out what the voices were saying. Peering out from the cover of a bush, he spotted a horned woman, draped in a provocative red dress. Her companion was a man with snow-white hair and venomous red eyes. The man seemed to be looking into the distance near where Vel had taken cover. He was definitely on alert for something. The only thing Vel was really able to make out of their conversation was the request the woman had given her companion. It seemed they intended to delve deeper into the forest, hopefully away from Vel and Memel. A victorious smile played upon Vel's lips. It would seem he wouldn't have to risk conflict after all, as long as he remained shrouded within the shadows of the undergrowth. He would just have to wait until the other two both cleared out of the area before continuing onward.

Memel allowed Vel to pull her further into the woods, her body shaking slightly. She held back the urge to let tears fall from her eyes as they finally reached a certain point in the woods that Vel seemed to find better suited to stay in. At the mention of him going ahead and leaving her behind by herself, Memel froze in her spot. She gave a small nod, accepting the task he had given her. She was extremely worried that she would mess things up again and stayed rooted to her spot, not moving an inch as she was waiting for Vel to come back.

He frowned at her evasion of his queries on her companions, but he didn't really feel threatened, so he supposed he would just have to let it go. Fesle forced his attention back onto the female and shooed away any concern he had, which was fairly easy when it became clear what the female was actually requesting of him. This whole encounter had been rather confusing, going from a potential battle, to a potential fling, then landing on just a friend in need of a travel companion. Still, he was happy with where it had ended up; the last one was the most enjoyable of the outcomes.

“I am not hungry. But, as a friend, I would not mind escorting you.” He stated as he relaxed back into his lamia form, shifting his lower half effortlessly back into the scaly length it was a short time ago. He blinked as he adjusted to his new vision or, rather, lack of, focusing instead on the woman's heat signature. It wasn't difficult to memorize his new friend's body heat, especially when there was one to compare it to right nearby. He flicked his forked tongue out in thought, stretching his tail to brush against the foliage the elf hid in casually. He didn't doubt that the newcomer was a friend of his new friend and, although it was curious that she hadn't introduced the stranger to him yet, he didn't feel the need to pry. With that decided, he slowly withdrew his tail back to himself and tilted his head in the woman's general direction. “Lead the way.”
