This would look really stupid if they didn't follow her now. But she had hope, because friendship! Teamwork! Loyalty! Plus nobody got around without taking a few risks here and there, right?
Risks being looking unfabulous by the end of this trip. Piper liked her time outside, but the humidity, the orange fog, the cries for help? Really not doing it for her.
As she forged a way forward, she heard something faint. The mage paused, ears straining to catch what sounded like someone's voice . . .

Lock followed Piper and Brenley sheepishly through the forest. He had actually wanted to stay back at the encampment. Nice warm tent, big plush sleeping bag. Being in a tent with a-
It seemed fifty thousand times safer there than it had out here, but all things considered, he didn't want to stay back by himself. Waiting alone was way worse than wandering off. He'd been somewhat peer pressured by Piper's go-to, gung ho attitude.
"Are you sure you know where we're going ..." he asked plainly. His arms were cross in disapproval at the turn of events. That, and it was a bit cold. The orange t-shirt didn't do much to help.

Brenley'd had no intention of leaving the safety of their camp either, but once Piper had taken the fire, he was suddenly a lot less interested in standing idly by.
"As long as it's nowhere near that screaming..." He paused as well, noting the voice in the trees and crossing his arms to match Lock's, more for protection than warmth. "Or that, whatever it was. Did you hear that?" It was one thing to be curious and scientific and exploratory. It was quite another to court dissipation. The distinction was one he had only begun to make very recently.
