Alright boys and girls, I have a question for all of you!
Are you for or against Valentine's Day?
Do you feel yourself getting
twitterpated as the day draws nearer?
Or would you maybe rather give Cupid a piece of your
mind?

You are the apple...

I'm completely against the concept of Valentine's Day. It's a completely commercialised holiday that gives people an excuse to lavish their significant other in gifts and then never do so for the rest of the year, except maybe on their anniversary, but still. Do something nice for your significant other every day of the year, not just days designed for it.

And for me, I am a fan of the big V Day, though I agree that it is entirely over commercialized. Along with every other major holiday (Easter, Christmas, etc).

I don't really care for the holiday, but I can appreciate how some people may find a need for such a day. Example, couples that are usually apart on their anniversaries usually turn Valentine's Day into a make-shift celebration of their relationship.
The commercialisation, as everyone else has said, is not pleasant, but it's too late to make that disappear.
Personally, I am perfectly happy to let the day pass by with no acknowledgement and have done so for many years.

I'm for the concept, against the commercialism. I don't believe everything special should be saved for that day, but an especially nice date or a specially romantic evening each year always sounded nice to me.

Against. Any holiday that makes single people feel like crap doesn't deserve my attention.

Well said, well said. I totally abhor this particular holiday. I see couples all around but I'm still alone walking my lonely road. Particularly dislike when businesses and shops are pushing for people to buy roses. What use are roses? Can I p***k you so you can bleed to death? stare

I wonder why it is on Feb 14, though. I don't quite like or dislike it. Another odd thing is why do people give each other followers all the time? Flowers are open..breeding grounds. And why is it called Valentine? And why are there cherubims all over the place?

The holiday is named after St. Valentine, who I believe was born on February 14th.

It's just a toned down Halloween. People give you candy and women dress like sluts on that day.

Why is it people get upset on Valentine's Day? Are they upset all the time? Because no matter what day, you'll see happy couples around you. It's not worth brooding over it, thinking negative doesn't allow for positive things in your life. I was single for the longest time, but didn't get upset on V-Day.
I'm for the idea of a day dedicated to love, because everyone needs a little love in their lives. I'm not saying I'm for it as the only day for celebrating love, though. Love should be done all year round.

They're upset because they compare themselves to other people. No one gets happiness from comparing themselves to other people. They become envious and jealous.

Technically you can get happiness from comparing yourself to another, so long as that person is perceived to be of lesser fortune than you. It's called in psychology a "downward social comparison".

Most single people on valentines day see couples and are envious because they want they, which would be an "upward social comparison".

Feb. 14th is Saint Valentine's birthday or ascension to sainthood (Not sure,) the patron saint of love between people, not just couples but between family and between friends. Did you mean flowers instead of followers, by chance? If you did, it's because various flowers symbolize love and adoration, such as the rose. The cherubs on Valentine's Day come from the Greek love god Eros, who was pictured as a cherub-like being.
