Stormy had learned one lesson swiftly: never go to the haunted house for patrol alone if you could help it. At least as a trainee. Last time she had been soundly mauled within an inch of her life, and while death and near-death encounters liked to follow the little Mist teen, she was trying in this new life not to make it so. Helplessness was an awful feeling - especially at the paws of an angry lioness and her horseman conjurer.

Thus when she had been assigned a slot to peak at the creepy place, Stormy had wandered until the nearest passing Hunter came within reach, at which point she promptly took her hand and began to turn her around to join up. For bonding! Sorta. Kinda.

Well no Stormy just straight up told Eva she didn't want to be alone again over there, but she at least tried to not sound so desperate about it. Sempais and all.

The House was freezing this time when they went in, as if the trainee needed an excuse to have more goosebumps. As calm as Stormy had been prior to the check up, once the pair appeared there she began to shrink, wary and glancing about as she summoned her weapon. "It's different then when I came last," she noted softly. For one there was a lot more mist about; for another, something might have touched her without warning, though nothing was immediately surrounding the Hunters. The room was small and very bare, cobwebbed furniture pushed off to the side; ill-fit for a fight, with little space that meant little room to dodge. She sucked in a breath and tried not to make it obvious that she was clinging to Eva's side, the greatsword out like a black and purple beacon in front of her.

Eva was never particularly fond of patrolling the Haunted House, but in Deus Ex, it didn't matter whether or not you liked the task you were assigned to--they had to be done, no excuses allowed. That being said, when Eva suddenly found herself being asked by a trainee to accompany her for her patrol...well, who was she to say no? She definitely understood not wanting to wander that creepy place alone, and it wasn't as if she had anything else that needed to be seen to immediately.

Plus, getting to spend time with a potential new friend and kouhai? That was always a plus!

Eva muscles instinctively tensed when they arrived at the Haunted House, the unfamiliar atmosphere raising goosebumps running along her arms. She was certain that she'd never get used to this place no matter how many times she came here, but the Death trainee quickly told herself to relax as she lifted a hand and pat Stormy's shoulder in a reassuring manner. When she spoke, her voice was soft, but it held a cheerful tone to it. "Don't worry, this place always changes a little, I think! It's just indecisive and doesn't know what it wants to b--...be."

There was a slight stumble in her speech as she felt something brush against her leg, but she forced herself to take a deep breath and smile. Most of her previous patrols here had ended without any particular incident. Perhaps today would be the same, if they were lucky? There was no use freaking out--or freaking poor Stormy out--about this, anyways. "Just stay close, okay? It'll be fine, it'll be fine!"

She hoped.

...Remi was going to kill her.

Christof, too. Maybe Aymet. But Remi? Definitely. He'd been angry enough with her after the last time and yet here she was, back for more...not that she told him what really happened. She couldn't deny that despite the reprocussions she was far from done with them. They had hurt her too much, made her too angry, to just lay back and take it after one rough ending to a brutal encounter. Though this time she told herself she wouldn't actively try to kill them, just...mess with them a little bit. Play with them like they played with so many of her kind.

Now imagine her dismay to come across not one, but two Hunters.

She had never come across a pair of them in the Haunted House before. They've always been alone.

s**t.

The voices had reached her ear first, startling the Vetala into ducking behind some of the cobwebbed furniture, pulling her cowl over her glowing eyes to lessen it. It mostly blinded her, but at least this way she could still see their feet, and that was just as good as the rest of them. What was she going to do though? She couldn't take on two Hunters alone! The sound of the room's door clicking shut and locked made the Creature bite back a low rumble of frustration at her situation; she was boned. So totally boned...! Should've escaped when she had the chance. Jack!

Okay. Okay calm down. You can do this, Amrita. She told herself, peeking out from her hiding place to see the Hunter's backs to her. Separate them first, maybe? But the room was too small... The longer she stared the more she realized something, and as it donned on her she tilted her head like a canine trying to understand. The one Hunter's coat was...pretty ornate, wasn't it? Come to think of it, the last Hunter's coat was just as ornate...and the one they killed, his had been pretty decorative too. Did that mean they were more powerful? Previous experience said yes...so working on that assumption, the other Hunter was...

Perfect.

It would be best to take out the strongest first, right? Right. At the very least she could shake up the higher powered Hunters! With that thought in mind the creature crawled from her hiding place, crouched on the ground for a second before lunging for the more decorative Hunter, aiming to sink her unattached claws into her back.

That was probably why Stormy could be better put at ease despite her reservations - Eva's voice was soft like hers. Combined with her being an older Hunter as well, and the trainee felt like she had somehow brought someone's mom along. A nice, sweet, young mom okay; Sasha had gotten the same treatment on the mission before last. Stormy nodded and repeated the mantra to herself. It'll be fine, it'll be fine, it'll -

And then - movement. Well the sound of movement at least, because by the time she turned around, there was a creature on top of Eva. The scuffle pushed the trainee back with a small but unabashed shriek of surprise. Oh God don't notice that, Eva, please don't notice that! Remembering she was wielding a greatsword as long as she was tall, Stormy was grateful for the distance as she gripped the handle and tried to swat the thing off her like a golfball off a tee. "Out out out!"

It seemed as if today was the day that her lucky streak of not encountering anything finally ran out. Chara sensed the creature first, letting out a sharp yell for Eva to dodge, but it was too late. Before the hunter could even fully process her weapon's warning, she felt claws sink into her back. For a moment, her mind went blank, but then she heard Stormy's yell and felt the surge of pain wash over her. Without hesitation, she tried to force herself forward in an attempt to pull herself out of the creature's grasp and out of its range.

All in all, the damage done to her was not that great because of her FEAR shield's protection, but had it not been up...well, she didn't really want to think about that. Now really wasn't the time to dwell on such things anyways--not when that thing was around. Wincing, she tried to ignore the ache in her back as best as she could as she lifted her weapon up in front of herself.

"Heads up, Stormy!" She gave the other hunter a second to moved before running forward, spinning her staff around and bringing the bladed end down in one smooth sweep.

The small one smacked her with a sword and the other lashed out with a staff, both attacks hitting home and both pulling a screeching hiss of pain from the dark skinned creature, the glow emitting from the vents and eye sockets seeming to flicker. This was a mistake, she told herself. A terrible, horrible mistake - why did she attack first? There was two of them! She was alone! That was a very bad idea, Amrita. Bad idea.

So the ghoul went with plan C, which was originally plan a: cause some havoc.

The creature scampered back as far as it could in the small space provided, looking between one Hunter and the next before focusing squarely on the smaller, less ornate of the two. Well, it was now or never! There was no way Amrita could handle another round of those hits, and the room was too small to try and evade them until she got a chance to sneak up on the ghoul; they really left no choice. It lunged at her, it's form flickering as claws quite literally sunk into her. There were no wounds and not a single drop of blood, but the dismembered hands disappeared right into the poor girl's body, followed closely by the arms, the shoulders, the torso; the creature vanished shortly after, almost as if it had never been there in the first place.

Stormy would feel an odd sensation as various parts of her body started to go numb and unfeeling; her arms, her legs, and eventually her torso. Her lungs would slow almost to the point of stopping entirely, her heart doing the same despite the adrenaline that no doubt coursed through her. Just before her mind would fade to black she would feel one last thing; a terribly powerful force pulling on her wrists and ankles, one that tried to force them into the very unnatural position of backwards. As always Amrita tried to fight it, trying her best to keep her new host's limbs the proper way; she succeeded for both feet and one hand, but one wrist let out an obvious snap before dangling almost uselessly. Well, she couldn't win them all...and three out of four was a personal record! The creature's FEAR took her over completely down to the very last cell, almost too easily. The weapon was dropped, clattering to the ground and disappearing into it's totem form as Stormy stood, rolling her shoulders and shifting as though adjusting a slightly too tight shirt, trying to make it feel right.

"O-ow...my wrist..." Stormy's voice lamented, painfully the same though there was something wrong with it. Amrita's head was clearing, the momentary black out fading enough to leave her with fuzzy and unfocused eyes, something that was quickly correcting itself. She peered through Stormy's eyes at her companion, making a show of holding her obviously broken appendage.

Relieved they could pry the monster off, Stormy scurried to Eva's side, half to make sure she was alright, half to make sure she herself would be alright. That thing was making such an awful noise, though, that the trainee pre-emptively swung her weapon when she turned to face it, just in case it got any funny ideas -

And then without warning, as her greatsword flew downward, it lunged.

Maybe "heads up" wasn't the best phrase to use. She got a face full of crazy because of it.

A strangled cry left Stormy as its claws sank in, turning into a scream as she realized it was getting inside. A primal flood of energized panic filled her as she flailed and stumbled, but nothing she did phased it - and before she knew it, the creature had completely been enveloped. Words failed Stormy as she felt herself grow numb, at the extremities first but quickly growing. By the time she thought to claw at her own shirt in a futile attempt to pry it out somehow, her arms were completely useless and her legs were soon following. The only noise that left her was the sound of Thane being dropped with a clatter before he desummoned to a ring on her right hand, for she could barely breathe.

Darkness began to fill her vision. Her body was a useless vessel. And to top it off, her throat was constricting in its suddenly arduous attempt to breathe.

It was just like her nightmares all over again. The trainee immediately grew pale.

But the worst of it was that just before she was completely swallowed into darkness, she vaguely felt something twisting her appendages - and then Stormy heard a loud snap that sounded too painfully close to home, though before she knew it there was only a floating void, a cold chill that almost numbed, and a hazy window of vision before her; and to her dismay, she couldn't move it, couldn't picture what was beyond, couldn't speak, couldn't think or hear her partner -

To say she was frightened was to say a blizzard was a bit nippy. She wasn't just terrified, it was so much more; it was embarrassing and horrifying that this creature could hit on practically all of her panic buttons in one go. And all she could do was be a prisoner in her own body and watch it all happen.

It all happened too fast. When the creature suddenly went for Stormy, Eva let out a cry and lunged forward, attempting to make a swing at the thing before it could harm the other girl. Unfortunately, her attack whizzed right past, her blood turning cold at the scream that filled the air. "Stormy! Stormy, hang on!"

She lifted her weapon again with the intention of knocking the monster off of her companion, only to realize in horror that the thing was not just on top of her, but slowly sinking into her. Caught up in the moment, Eva dropped her weapon without thinking and leaped forward. Her intention had been to yank them apart, but by the time she managed to reach out and catch Stormy's sleeve, she was already too late. Whatever that thing was, it had sunk itself into the other girl's body and disappeared.

Get back!

"But Stormy's--"

Now!

Helpless, Eva snatched Chara off of the ground and distanced herself from Stormy, her expression shifting into one of horror as she watched the girl's limbs twist and contort in ways that were not natural. Damnit, how was she supposed to get that thing out of her body? She considered getting other hunters to come out and help, but she couldn't possibly have time to send a text out before being attacked, and just leaving was not an option either. Then what else could she--

She heard the snap, her whole body growing stiff as she turned to see the way her hand dangled limply, startling when she spoke. That...sounded like Stormy, but...

Narrowing her eyes, she lifted Chara up in front of herself in a defensive position. "Just what are you?"

"What do you mean? I'm Stormy!" 'Stormy' glanced up at her companion, brows furrowing as though quite upset. It hadn't been hard to put two and two together; the remaining Hunter did sprout that name pretty frequently. "What...what are you doing? Put your weapon down!" Amrita wasn't the greatest of actresses, but she just couldn't help it...this was fun. Borrowed hands raised, fingers spread to show that she was quite literally unarmed.

"C-come on! Put it down...I'm your friend, remember?" She took one slow step forward, partially trying to appeal to the other Hunter and partially trying to close the gap in the already small room. Hopefully she could get close enough to make that weapon useless...

Oh thank God Eva had watched it all. Stormy didn't know how she'd deal if she'd somehow let this thing back into Deus to bodysnatch and cause trouble just because for a whole three seconds she couldn't fight it off . . . Had the control been back with her, she would have shivered from her toes to the tips of her ears at what the damage control and punishment would be like.

Don't fall for it, Eva, please . . . And though she couldn't really look up in this state, the only way for the trainee to vent her panic was to shout as loud as she mentally could at the creature holding her. I know you got really hurt, but if you let me go we'll leave you alone, no more attacks, no anything! Honest! Please, please . . .

Her freakout was held at bay by the fact there was nothing she owned beyond a consciousness to freak out with. There was little scarier than a total loss of control, and it was like bile to her to be begging a Halloweener to let her be. If Thane was still around, he would have derided her for thinking these things could be reasoned with. But what else could she do? She couldn't stretch her mind beyond the confines of this cold cell, like there were walls containing her - one small, hardwood box with the label Contents: one scared little girl.

Despite the warning bells going off in her head--and Chara's insistence, Eva lowered her weapon ever so slightly. However, as if to make up for this, she also took an additional step back, her eyes warily settling on Stormy. Or at least, what looked to be Stormy. She--it?--was pleading with her, but rather than focus on what she was saying, Eva was carefully scanning the other girl's expression for any abnormalities. It was hard for her to tell though--from the outside, nothing seemed to be wrong.

That being said, the issue here was that, regardless of whether or not it was really Stormy speaking to her now, Eva had seen that thing go into her. It was probably still inside of her, hiding and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. If they went back to Deus Ex now, there would be a potential of bringing that thing back with them, right? And there, it could wreak all the havoc it wanted...

Eva didn't want to have to knock Stormy out either though, especially if that really was her pleading with her right now. She needed help. With one hand still holding Chara up, the death hunter slowly used her other hand to reach into her pocket and pull out her phone. "Sorry Stormy, just sit tight, okay?" Maybe she could call someone, one of the higher ups. Caelius? ...No, his order would probably be to kill her and eliminate the potential threat altogether. One of her friends then, maybe, a level-headed one...

Slowly, she flipped her phone open, her gaze flickering between the girl and her cell's screen as she searched through her contacts list.

Unfortunately for Stormy, Amrita couldn't hear her pleas; but if she had, she may have reconsidered her actions. As it were, Stormy was merely at the wrong place at the wrong time. Through Stormy's eyes Amrita watched the other Hunter lower her weapon and pull out what looked like a phone, which was enough to make her borrowed stomach twist in panic. This wasn't going so well, and the longer the other Hunter casually went through...something - contacts, maybe? That would explain why it was taking a while - the more trapped she felt.

This was a bad idea. A horrible, terrible idea.

"Oh. Um. Okay." The need to fidget was great, and for a moment her unbroken hand rose to fiddle with the scarf the ghoul wore, pinching and pushing a the fabric. It seemed like an eternity though really only a moment or two had passed, and just as she sucked in a breath to say the first thing that came to mind, a sound tore through the air: the loud echo of a lock coming undone and a door lazily creaking open.

"Oh Thank ---" Jack had been on the tip of her tongue, only a lip press away from being said and blowing her cover...well, what little cover she had. What did the Hunters Thank? Hrm. She had no idea; maybe she should find that out one day. Learn their lingo. "...I guess it's gone." She finished instead, her words breathy with very real relief.

"C'mon, let's get out of here!" She urged Eva, taking a step forward towards the door Amrita had seen them enter from; the panic was still there, deeply seated in her very core. She didn't know what she was doing, but she couldn't risk nearly getting killed again. This was a game she'd have to play until she found a way out of it, and right now was not that time.

Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no nononononono -

Did you want a Hunter begging? Okay! OkayI'mbegging please! Stormy yelled, and the way her voice fell upon nothing reverberated in her "ears" just as much as silence could buzz in them: nothingness and loneliness and the sound of will power cracking, and shame. Copious and copious amounts of what she was considering to get this creature to listen.

Thane would kill her for not being stronger, but she just couldn't stop herself. Her heart plummeted the longer Eva flipped through her contacts, wondering if it was a ruse, or if the older Hunter was looking for someone to come and dispose of her. Or did she truly care about a trainee that screwed up this bad? Oh God, what would she think if they survived this . . . Would she get reported? Detained? Studied? Reprimanded?

Stormy whimpered and wished she had eyes to cry with, that this pain and shame welling up inside of her had some outlet. This thing could kill her easy, but instead it was making her watch, and she wasn't sure which option was more preferable now if it somehow got into Deus.

Make it stop, make it stop - ! She almost wanted Eva to turn her weapon on her own body, anything to drive it out. In desperation Storm sought to try and stretch her conciousness out, looking for anything. A crack, a hole, something to leak out of and scream from.

Otto, perhaps? Or Gale too. As she scrolled through her list, Eva tried to figure out who would be most suited to come and help with this...predicament. Even someone who could give her some advice would be better than nothing at all. To be fair, Stormy seemed relatively normal right now, but until Eva saw that thing leave her body--

--"What?" Her head jerked up at the sudden noise, tearing her gaze away from her cellphone in favour of turning to scan her surroundings. After a moment, she turned her attention onto Stormy, her lips curving into a faint frown as she lifted her brows at the girl. "It's gone? You mean that...thing that lunged at you?"

As she hadn't seen the thing leave for herself, Eva couldn't help but look just a little wary as she slowly took a step forward towards the door. On one hand, she didn't want to treat Stormy like some suspicious monster, especially if the girl was indeed free from whatever that thing had been. However, on the other hand, she wasn't so keen on potentially letting a dangerous thing into Deus. Again, she stopped, holding a hand up as she lifted the hand holding her phone again.

"There's no rush, Stormy, it's okay. If we really have to, we'll run, but there's...something I want to have confirmed first."

Amrita resisted looking at this Hunter like she had lost her marbles. Well, she tried. "What else could have left?! It was just the three of us before, and now the door's open, so...I think it's gone." She tried to save what she was saying, but she was sure the damage had already been done. Ah well.

"Confirm? Confirm what? Can't we just go home...?" Could she even cross into Deus? Was that something plausible? What if she did, and they found out? She'd be a sitting duck. The Vetala rubbed the poor ghoul's broken wrist, cradling it close to her body as she thought out her options. No, going to Deus was too risky. Much too risky. And that phone...

"Will you put that phone away?! You're making me feel like a criminal!" 'Stormy' whined in frustration, taking a couple very awkward steps towards her friend and partner...and, suddenly, she made a decision. Stormy's broken hand lashed out to smack the phone from Eva's hands, trying to at least put some distance between them all.
