Madeline had managed to wiggle her way out of her depressed state long enough to take up an investigation mission to the Haunted House more for kicks than anything. It had been awhile since she'd been somewhere other than the training fields, hitting things until they were dented into irreparable figures that might have once been training targets. Her boots echoed wailingly off of the walls, but she simply ignored it, and the cold, and the damp mist. She was beginning to learn how to ignore a lot of things.

You alright there, kiddo? Arsen's usually coarse voice was laden with a thick and awkward sort of concern. It made Madeline laugh.

"Fine as ever." She lied, and Arsen made a gargled noise of irritation and went silent. He was good at letting things go if the answer wasn't forthcoming. His particular brand of motivation and dedication seemed to rest solely in the art of killing things.

She stepped through another broken door.

Hopefully they would get to do that soon.

It was rare for the bluejay to wander into the Haunted House. It was a place she held no interest in—it was a giant, dark house that was mostly empty and filled with mysterious rooms. Sometimes there was the chance to fight with the hated hunters, but other times Jay would only stumble into a bumbling student of Amityville. After the events of the inverted Haunted House, the warrior made it a point to not visit the decrepit house when she could.

Yet, here she was. She kept her wings safely tucked in by her sides while she strode through the creaky hallways. Unlike her last trip, Jay chose not to remain quiet as possible. The floorboards were far too loose. She would’ve paid unnecessary attention to the floor if she wanted to keep silent. Dark fingers whimsically reached for a door. It slid out with a slow whine, but the bird refused to flinch at the sound as she stepped inside and let the door swing closed with a soft snap.

As expected, the room was dark and empty, in a state of disarray. She critically eyed the fallen items scattered around the room before the door opened once more. Her eyes widened suddenly and she spun around to fling her dagger at the intruder.

That was about as much warning as Madeline got before something sharp sliced through her cheek, opening a long slender cut. "Ow! <********>" She reeled back, Arsen already summoned and swinging in front of her. She scowled at the tiny figure that had appeared out of nowhere, her knuckles white where they gripped the base of the club.

Told you to duck. Arsen said with blazing condescension.

"Didn't anyone ever teach you its rude to sneak up on a lady?" She asked scathingly, her tone nails and knives. She wasn't in the mood for a brawl, but it wasn't like the jabberjay was about to give her much choice. Gaining a solid stance, she lunged forward and swung the club hard at the birds wing. Time to cripple that stupid thing.

The curse the hunter emitted garnered a grin from Jay before the dagger magically reappeared in her hand. She hummed softly as she eyed the club in the woman’s hand. Sea green eyes then trailed toward the white coat, which caused her to narrow her eyes. She barely noticed the sun emblem on the coat before she took a step back as an extra precaution.

“When it’s war, anything is fair game,” she answered coolly. “War is not exactly the epitome of polite and manners. Perhaps you should visit Conquest for that.” The warrior squawked as the hunter lunged and battered one of her wings. Jay winced as her wing now lay limp. She hissed. Grimacing, Jay pushed Madeline away in order to create more distance between each other.

Madeline tuned out most of what Jay was saying in favor of steeling herself, rolling her eyes at the other girls struggle. "Careful there, you might hurt yourself." She said in amusement, stepping away. She wasn't sure she'd met this particular jabberjay before, but she wasn't entirely sure she'd remember even if she did. After one point, all of the brightly colored creatures just started to blend together into one colossal mess.

"Listen, lets just cut to the chase here." Madeline hefted her club and swung hard again at the bird from the side. "I'm not really in the mood to wax poetic about how much we hate each other." She grinned. "I'm just a girl trying to survive, and talking gets in the way."

Jay was not amused. Lips twisted into a frown and her eyes narrowed at the hunter. “I’ll be careful, thanks,” she managed to reply as she tried to adjust her wing so it wasn’t a hindrance. She loved her wings so much; it was painful to think of her wings as weighing her down in a fight. The hunter was clever, she would give Madeline that.

“Sounds like a rather fine plan. Talking is just another hindrance,” she answered between gritted teeth as she was knocked to the side. She stumbled a few steps before regaining her balance. Jay eyed the hunter with a predatory look in her eyes, a growl rumbling in her throat just before she left and plunged her dagger into Madeline’s side.

Jay yelped as the hunter landed a clean punch to her face. She glared at her before clawing at the woman's arms with little success.

Jay grimaced at Madeline, but gladly obliged. She wasn't much of a wrestle, but she could do a half nelson if she needed to.

She just punched her back instead.

Madeline grinned and tussled with Jay, tugging at her hair and jabbing her elbow backwards into whatever soft flesh she could get. She had done this her entire childhood with her brothers, what difference was there now? Somewhere in her head, Arsen gave a tremendous sigh and gave her a little boost, which she ignored.

Jay huffed angrily as she tried to push Madeline back, but to no avail. She summoned her throwing daggers in an attempt to fling them at her, but the close proximity made it difficult, and to be honest, only made her situation worse. Oh well, she tried.

Madeline grunted, tilted dangerously to the side to avoid the throwing dagger. "Were you aiming for something?" She asked, shaking off some of the dirt that was now clotting her auburn hair. "Or was that just a showy stunt?" She blew a bang out of her face and reeled her fist back to punch Jay again before she had the chance to try that one again and actually hit something.
