He was back in the Haunted House now, back in the place where he had last seen her.
Mei.
It had been a while. Several weeks had passed since the incident at the Horsemen Isles, and several months since he had seen the creature - and later her boyfriend. But the words she had spoken to him then; Gale could not forget them, despite having tried to all this time. He had been weaker then; less sure of himself. He had let himself grow weak.
But it was different now. He was not a trainee any longer.
He passed through the halls of the House with Jinhai already summoned, booted feet treading softly, cautiously as he held the rifle at bay, in position to attack if necessary. Gale had not come here to look for Mei specifically, exactly, but there was a part of him that wished to find her again.
- if only to show her that he had found what he was looking for. He had chosen a side.
He was not weak.
The room he settled in to observe was a large one, with tall walls painted a pale teal color, a black and white striped border stretching along the top. There was an elegant, cream-colored chaise pressed up against one side, several matching throw pillows, and a fringed afghan draped over it. On the opposite wall there was a large and ornate mirror with a golden, gilded frame that hung above a dark, mahogany wood dresser. Other than that, however, the room was empty.
Gale stepped silently across the black and white tiled floor, moving towards the chaise where he took a seat, sliding one leg over the other. The gun lay in his lap, but his hand was on it, ready to take action if need be.
But would he need to?STATUS EFFECT Rolling a 4: NO HEALING IS ALLOWED IN BATTLE

It had been a stressful time in Amityville. Red, Riley, the horsemen..the hunters. Everything. It was only a couple of weeks since her graduating to a third year student--so close to graduating from amityville itself--she had barely the time to stop and think about much of anything lately. But there as one thing..
Ever since the incident at the four clans, she could have sworn she had spotted a boil, a certain blond haired boil. It was Gale, she was sure of it. With everything that had happened, she had no time to make sure, but she knew it was him.
She was angry. Angry over everything that had happened--that they had nearly been caught and turned into those weapons those white coats carry around with them, and would had been, if Madae and her small group hadn't come.
Had he chosen yet? She knew better. As if in response to her thoughts, Mei found herself walking down the corridor to the haunted house once again.
Pausing in her steps, the doll stared for a moment before continuing. She knew there would be a hunter at the end of this, and she had a strong feeling she knew who. There was, of course, no way to be certain, but she just knew who it was she would find inside.
Navigating her way through the building, she came across one room in particular that drew her attention. Drumming her fingers against her chin, she brushed one of her ponytails over her shoulder and made her way through the entrance.
Within seconds of entering, she noticed someone sitting across the room--practically in the same position he had been in before.
"I had a feeling I would find you here, Gale Gentry."

<< Gale. >>
Yes, Jinhai.
<< Something's coming. >>
...yeah, I know.
Somehow, in the back of his mind, he knew who it would be before the door opened. Jinhai made a low, rumbling noise in his mind, the feel of the metal beneath Gale's fingertips growing slightly cooler. He shifted positions, resting his elbow against the arm of the chaise and propped his head up in his hand.
There was a small creak. The door swung open slowly, and the sound of footsteps was made audible, echoing throughout the spacious room as a figure stepped in, long, magenta hair falling over her shoulders in two ponytails.
Gale lifted his gaze, eyes flickering towards the creature.
"Good evening, Mei."

Clenching and un-clenching her fist, Mei remained silent for the moment, unsure of what to say to the boil. What could she say?
He had changed, a lot. He looked different then he did before, and not just the attire. He seemed more..certain than he had the last time she met. Like he wasn't struggling with himself anymore, or something. She wasn't any good at reading people. But the fact that he was here again made the doll a little uneasy. She had improved since they had last met--fought--but so had he.
Shifting her weight, she clasped her hands behind her back, watching for a moment as he finally spoke. 'Good evening'? she had a feeling it wouldn't be after this. She had a hunch this meeting would soon end badly, as it had before.
"You've chosen then? I saw you back at the four clans. With your people that is."

For several moments there was only silence.
It stretched out between them, as tangible as something Gale felt he could almost reach out and touch if he tried, heavy and nearly oppressing. But he was calmer than he had been in a long time; more resolute, more focused.
He did not need to worry about Ben any longer. He had not forgotten him - that was not the case - but he no longer felt the need to blame himself for his death after all this time.
It was over. He was finally, irrevocably...moving on.
And moving forward.
Gale's eyes flickered upwards, towards Mei's face, tracing over the cracks that split over her body, almost human-like in appearance, except for those. He was not scared of her - perhaps, once, he was wary of her, but now he was clear headed, clearer than he ever had been.
The answer was obvious.
"Yes," he replied simply, and that was it. The final deciding factor. "I've chosen."
After a moment, he added, a little quieter, "I saw you as well."

He had definitely changed. Gale was no longer that confused boil who couldn't decide on what to do with himself. He was now a hunter, or close to one. Ranks of hunters were not something she was that knowledgeable on. But judging by his coat, he had definitely climbed in rank of some sort. It wasn't the usual trainee like coat she had seen most of the hunters wearing. She almost wanted to applaud him.
Letting her hands drop back to her sides, Mei narrowed her gaze. She already knew he had chosen--she had ever since their fight--but this confirmed it. It appeared she was s**t out of luck when it came to hopes of trying to convince him otherwise.
Not responding, she instead bowed her head slightly in thought. Carefully thinking over how to go about this. It was only when he spoke again that she returned her gaze. Her expression softened a little at his words. If he had seen her there, then she supposed she should have counted herself lucky that he did not shoot her then.
"So, what now?" she asked. She knew the answer to her own question, they were likely to fight this out again, but still..if this could still be resolved peacefully..
Not likely.

The rifle was out, laying across Gale's lap. He had one leg crossed lightly over the other and he was reclining back in the couch as though he hadn't a care in the world.
But he did - and they both knew it.
"So what now?"
"What now?" Gale repeated, his eyes dropping towards the gun, smoothing his hand along the barrel almost absently, as though he had forgotten about the weapon. Jinhai made a low, thrumming sound in the back of his mind, soft nad soothing.
"...I guess now we fight."

She hated this. Why did this always have to end in blood? Clenching her fists tightly, Mei narrowed her gaze and nodded. "Fine then. I guess there's not talking you out of this, so lets just get it over with, shall we?" Without another word, Mei made the first move and charged forward, aiming a swift kick to the hunter.
Battle was not something Mei was superior in--far from it--but since their last battle, her agility had increased a lot. Though, she had her doubts that would do much good when it came down to it. Gale, last she recalled, had almost perfect aim when he shot at her each time. If he missed, she couldn't recall it. The last battle was such a blur to her now after all.
Jumping clear of any melee attacks, Mei crouched low and waited for Gale to make his move.---------------------------------------------------------------- Mei's HP: 50/50 Target: Gale Damage: 8 Effect: No Healing (fffffffffff) Charge Attack: Medic - Medic + (unable to use) ----------------------------------------------------------------

A part of him didn't want to fight Mei, but a part of him knew he had to. There was no way around it, no way of stopping the inevitable. What would happen was exactly what did happen - they would both fight and they would go back to being hunter and prey.
He moved swiftly, but not fast enough - Mei's foot connected with the side of his head, and Gale staggered sideways, his head reeling. Jinhai made a sound in his head, something like a growl, and Gale sidestepped, sliding around a nearby chair.
"We fight," said Gale. "because that's how it goes."
He swung the rifle around and fired off several shots.

Jumping to her feet, Mei moved for the far side of the room in order to dodge the worst of the attack. Unfortunately, even with her new found speed, she was unable to evade the oncoming bullets.
We fight, because that's how it goes.
That's how it goes. But..why? Because of things that had happened to them in the past? Or because of orders? All she knew, was that she hated this. Hated constantly having to fend off unwanted battles from people she previously had no ill will towards. She wasn't even sure how this whole mess had started in the first place, but here she was. Stuck right in the middle of it all.
Gritting her teeth, she dove and rolled towards the hunter, hitting him with an uppercut.
"Fine then, but as long as I live, I refuse to let you, or your kind harm me, my friends, or any of my kind. So take your best shot!"
Gale was more decent then some of the other hunters she had encountered, and she had no wish to fight him. But if he would continue to walk the path he chose, then she would have no choice then to face him if it meant the safety of her friends.---------------------------------------------------------------- Mei's HP: 39/50 Target: Gale Damage: 6 Effect: No Healing Charge Attack: Medic - Medic + (unable to use) ----------------------------------------------------------------

This is the way it's supposed to be.
He had made his choice, hadn't he? He had chosen to keep his loyalties where they were, had chosen to become what he had always wanted. And hadn't he gotten far? He was where he had said he would be, determination and ferocity of spirit getting him just that much closer.
Gale had always had the need to prove himself - but to whom?
Mei's fist connected with his chin, and Gale's head snapped backwards painfully, seeing stars. He staggered back a few steps, his head ringing, and quickly swung the gun around again, readying it as he smacked the butt of the gun against Mei's ribs.
"I can't promise anything," he said. "I really can't."

Mei saw the gun flying towards her, but was unable to invade in time. It hit her good and hard, hard enough for her to be knocked back even. She would have claimed that it was enough to knock the air out of her lungs, but considering she had no lungs, it would be a lie.
Clutching at her side, she attempted to heal a little, just enough to keep her moving without a problem, but nothing happened. She tried again, but still nothing! Was it this room? Something was keeping her from using her fear healing, and she didn't like it one bit. This was, after all, the one thing she specialized in. Without it, she could very much be in trouble. "Tch.."
Getting to her feet, she dusted herself off, and took a stance again. "No, I didn't think so." Without delay, she moved forward again, striking at his arm which held that blasted weapon. However, she doubt it would be enough for him to lose grip of the weapon, but even so..it might help out a little.---------------------------------------------------------------- Mei's HP: 33/50 Target: Gale Damage: 6 Effect: No Healing Charge Attack: Medic - Medic + (unable to use) ----------------------------------------------------------------
