Looks like Congress has shelved the Bills temporarily:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57362675-503544/pipa-sopa-put-on-hold-in-wake-of-protests/
Also, OPEN, another bill like PIPA/SOPA, is being pushed as an alternative option now (and, in many ways, it is better, but... I don't know why we need anything these bills are pushing for in the first place, IMHO), especially since Lamar knew SOPA wasn't going to survive (and rightfully so):
http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/20/2721418/sopa-bill-withdrawn-by-lamar-smith
What, IMHO, should be concerning a lot of people, especially non-Americans, is ACTA, which is like an International version of SOPA/PIPA, thats been going on since 2007 (which the EEF has been combating since). And I mention this because Anonymous just took up arms against Poland's (Gov't's) recent decision to start supporting ACTA too:

The interesting thing is - it's actually been the Republicans withdrawing support en masse. For example, of the senators that withdrew support, 16 were Republican and only 3 were Democratic.
That's huge - even though the Dems suffered a major loss in their Senate caucus in 2010, they still have a majority in the upper house of 54 to 46. It also puts me in a position that I'd never thought I'd be in where my position is the Republican one.
As I understand, though, the bill has been withdrawn for the interim. If conditions become more favorable, then it might be pushed through. On the other hand, I believe the major contenders for the presidency in both major parties are choosing anti-PIPA and anti-SOPA positions.
This does NOT mean that it can't still be passed - it takes a 2/3 majority in both chambers of Congress to override a veto, and before the Internet threw a bitchfit, both bills had wide support. It just makes it that much more difficult.
What little I know of ACTA is vague, so I'm not quite in panic mode over it yet. More like an, "Oh s**t, this could be bad" position.

Eudaemon So...when is the Civil War 2.0 gonna happen?
Never, because if it did, it would be over before it began.
Honestly, our internal government isn't that screwed up. You just have to look passed all the superficial layers of politicians blowing hot air at eachother to see the real underworkings of it. There are too many checks and balances for any one group of people to completely ******** it up, even though it may look that way.
The country will develop how the country develops. We aren't some third world nation where the leaders can do whatever they want, they have to worry about re-election (which, is pretty much what will kill SOPA and any SOPA like bill) The future of the USA is pretty independent of who is running it. Like river rafting, we may elect a guy to steer the boat, and he may or may not dodge a couple rapids, but we're still going to end up at the bottom of the ******** river.
I know we like to scream "THE FOUNDING FATHERS WOULDNT APPROVE OF THIS" but thats just as ******** as saying "JESUS WOULDNT APPROVE OF THIS". Since what everyone thinks of the founding fathers is a disneyfied rose tinted glasses version. Saying the founding fathers wouldnt like something is both pointless, and proves absolutely nothing other than the person who says it knows nothing about history.
Just like Jesus, who was obviously a sassy black lady with an afro, and keeps getting depicted as a scrawny white guy, much to her chargin.

Jayce Reinhardt Eudaemon In other terms... WHY IS THE US GOVERNMENT SO SCREWED UP? If our founding fathers saw the US today and some of the bills they try to pass/have passed, they would be so sad to see their hard work turned into a oligarchical cesspool with its elected leaders creating and passing very socialistic acts to "benefit the national integrity of the United States and its citizens." So...when is the Civil War 2.0 gonna happen? The fact that most of them are lawyers/former lawyers (who don't know how to use a computer) doesn't help any, I'm thinking.
