You have to understand the dynamics of big business. They can't donate more than 10% of profits of any 1 project to an organization unless they don't want to break even with the IRS. There is a whole area of tax sheltered donation that exists in bi-laws of transfers in events like these. The problem is too few people truly understand these laws, myself included. I think, according to my understanding, if the business donates any more than 10% of the profits from any marketing scheme for a relief effort that actually puts them into a higher tax bracket. By doing so, the corporation, Red Cross, would have to pay taxes on the donation given to them. Therefore the donation wouldn't be that, a donation. It would be a money transfer. Money transfers are non-tax sheltered, whereas donations from a percentage of the profits are. It is really weird, convoluted, and stupid if you ask me... but, this is why I am not a CPA, nor do I plan to be. TOOOOOOOOO many laws. But I hope this sorta gives you an understanding that Gaia isn't as fault here. But it is more along the lines of, the laws PREVENT them from doing more than they want. Since most of the Gaia admins are like us, Otaku anime nerds that love Japan with all their hearts.

*nodnod* Right! Gaiaonline cannot control what the government says. If they can only give so much then blame government not Gaia. It is a scam but not for Gaia...scam once again from the government =w= The leftover money that they get from the donations, they only get a small cut from that and it ALL goes to the CONGRESS pockets. And Obama....well lets just say that is why he became President.

I believe it is not a scam. If it were, than why aren't all of the cash shop items under a donation fund? Then, there would be more buyers, more donations, and if it were a scam, more money in their pocket. No, they probably lose profits because of gov't taxing, paying for the creation of these items, and such. Only 10% is allowed to be donated to Japan because of laws, so I recommend donating directly. I happen to have some Gaia cash on my account, already bought, so I thought it was a decent cause, even if only a bit of it goes to Japan. wink

These laws existed well before he came into office. And I mean WELL before.

I know that you're trying to get a point across and help other gaians understand your opinions, but you don't have to be so rude as to call us morons. It might seem right to you, but to me that's called bullying, or harassment. That could get you reported if you don't watch your mouth. As said before, it's a choice whether or not (or if you can or not) you want to donate from gaia or the red cross. Could you try to be less rude sometime? Also, I DONT think this is a scam to pocket more than 75% of the money being donated. Laws and taxes don't allow more than 10% to be donated because gaia had to create all the cash shop items and the government has to tax them for all of it too. Just because you and a few other buddies think it's true that this is a scam, doesn't mean you have the right to make us believe it as well. If you paid a little attention to what's been happening and the government's rules, then you'd know it's not a scam. Even if you think that you have solid evidence you should consider what gaia has done in the past, and is trying to do now. If they were really what you call them, they'd just tell us to donate for the site, not for Japan, who is right now in the midst of a horrible crisis. All I'm trying to say is that you can't be so rude to other people that care and that you should try to understand what's happening over there and here on gaia. I'm not trying to make you change your mind about the whole situation, I'm just giving you a little advice on this subject.
Good Day.
