I've heard that drinking coffee is a good way to up your metabolism, and it helps me stay awake in class, but at the same time, I've heard it stunts growth and dehydrates you. I know for sure it dehydrates, since my band director told us not to drink it for band camp, and I almost passed out... But anyway.
Would it be good to skip out on coffee alltogether?

Coffee is great for you.
It does not stunt your growth, that is an old wives tale.
The caffeine in it will dehydrate you if you do not drink enough water.
Don't gussle a whole pot of it, a few cups is all you need.

Coffee has also been proven to fight certain cancers, it has antioxidants in it.

In moderation it is a good thing, so no you don't have to skip out on it.
Just have like one cup a day and remember to drink some water.

I wouldn't rely on coffee for anything except the jitters and the need to pee every 10 minutes, but I wouldn't say you absolutely shouldn't have it. It's not something I drink every day anymore, but I wouldn't say no to a cup. It's the caffeine that makes you more energetic and supposedly raises your metabolism, but caffeine's not a good thing to get addicted to.

Caffeine addiction is the pits.
I have been drinking coffee since I was a baby, withdrawals are not fun.
But yes do be careful to not get addicted.

If you want to boost your metabolism. I think green tea is a better choice. It has a smaller amount of caffein in it. Caffein absolutely does dehydrate you. It disrupts a hormone in your body meant to keep you hydrated so it basically tells your body that you're overly hydrated so that your body will get rid of some of it's water retention by producing less concentrated urine. You know the old saying drink one, pee two. Well it's no myth, you literally pee out more liquid than you drink with that. So even drinking lots of water might not cut it if you have more than 2 cups a day.

I stay far away from coffee because it is an "adrenaline like substance" so I don't handle it well. But I do drink a few cups of green tea a day.

I dunno about stunting growth, but, the whole being forbidden when you're pregnant and when you're on certain medications just makes me think there's some validity to that.

One major bonus I find with caffein is that it's a hunger suppressor. If I had one large coffee at starbucks I would barely be hungry enough to eat my next meal. But then I'm really sensitive to caffein and I also get other not so fun reactions like heart palpitations that makes it not worth it.

So, yea, everything in moderation can be good. I would say no more than 2 cups a day. But if you're looking for a metabolism booster I think green tea is a healthier choice.

Ah, I drink a cup a day, most of the time I don't finish it halfway. I'm going to check into that, and get some green tea next time I hit the store.
I'm guessing not the Lipton green tea that comes in bottles? I heard that those have just as much sugar as regular soda...

That makes sense cause I hate Lipton. And I'm not a huge fan of Tettley either. My favorite is tea leaves in a cast iron tea pot with filter. Basically it's like what you would get at a chinese restaurant. Or you can see what other tea bags your stores offer. I think green tea with Jazmine is just heavenly. I'm a huge tea lover as you can tell sweatdrop

The no name brands are usually pretty good I've found. Like I would prefer those to tettley or Lipton.

Sounds good, I've never taken the time to appreciate tea sweatdrop Thank you so much, I'll be on the lookout.
