xXx_Tinker_Fairy_xXx Pandiecakes To open a new layer, hit CTRL+SHIFT+N. There are plenty of Tutorials on Deviantart! Here's one I found particularly useful. http://leivre.deviantart.com/art/Photoshop-for-Beginners-1-11676534?q=boost:popular+photoshop+tutorial+beginner&qo=4 here is my work Master Pandiecakes after reading cell shading tutorial... my lines are kinda not fine...how can improve it? and I have to work on my shading too.. Did you do the lines with a pen or on a computer program? If you used a program like Photoshop, using a smaller brush will make them seem smoother, just zoom in close when you're line arting.
I like how you shaded though! Very good!

I will critique the latest picture you posted up.
Shading:
Watch your light source! Before you color an image, determine the location of the oncoming light/sun ray/heat source. Once you have established the location of the light, THEN you can begin to color with volume. Your shading seems to be everywhere; the top of her head seems to be catching light, but the top of her bangs seem to be quite dark in comparison. According to your picture, light is emanating from her face in the most nuclear way. There's a hard light under her bangs. I won't go more into shading except to leave you with this: think about what shape you are coloring in. Think about how light interacts with certain shapes.
Proportion:
Her waist is definitely too thin (Unless you did this intentionally), and even so, there needs to be a grounded set of proportions to make a believable character with a tiny waist. Also, I couldn't really tell whether you were going for a face that was in a 3/4th position (indicated by the nose), or a full frontal view. Make that clearer smile
Lines:
Don't worry about pressure sensitivity; my tablet pen's been broken for months, so I am currently working with a pen without any pressure sensitivity (it IS very helpful though). When you work with lines, remember that as the figure's silhouette goes further from the determined light source, the lines are thinner (Don't make this too drastic, just a little thinner). Use bolder lines on areas where lines meet and touch together. This comes with practice, sorry I can't explain it too well.
Here I have an extremely rough red line to illustrate my point. The arrows indicate where the light is hitting the figure. If you would look to the bottom left, you see a really rough break-down of a character. Each body part can be broken down into shapes. Imagine how the light bends when it hits the figure.
I hope you found this criticism helpful. Don't give up, keep practicing! Good luck! smile
