I liked both movies, but I didn't really take that theme from it. |

How many other movies have that theme? Beautiful planet is rich with resources. Greedy civilized man wants to harvest resources for money. Harvesting will destroy the savage society on planet. One man is sent to reason with native savages. One man finds native woman. Native woman is daughter to chief, promised to marry best warrior. One man falls in love with woman and society. One man tries to persuade greedy civilized man. One man does something heinous in eyes of savage society. Greedy civilized man tries to take resources by force. One man betrays greedy civilized man. Savage society or woman saves one man. One man and native woman get married. Beautiful planet survives.
Ok, so the theme was told a little longer than perhaps necessary, but still. Why is Avatar almost exactly like Pocahontas, yet there was no Colors of the Wind song?

Its not just pocahantas. Avatar is basically that, Ferngully, AND dances with wolves all in one giant a** plot! I'm thankful I didn't waste any money on it in theaters or on DVD, just waited for one of my roomies to get it on DVD and wasn't amazed by the plot at all. The animation was good and creative that's all I'm giving it. Shiney yes, worthy or being called a great movie....NO

Eh, while the movie never interested me, it is worth pointing out that over the many centuries the entertainment industry has been around, every possible theme and setting and character type has been tried and played out, and even the most original-sounding idea has in all likelihood been done a million times before.
But the invention of things like film and video made it possible to preserve performances for the ages, thus making it easier for people to call something unoriginal since they likely possess older works containing similar material.
