In the Third Music Room is the Ouran High School Host Club, where women are treated like princesses, and the men try their best to please. There are many types of men to choose from, all split into types of their own.

There is the wild type, the natural type, the prince type, the cool type, the loli-shota type, and last of all...

... the little devil type.

Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin, needless to say, are twins. They have been part of the Club ever since Tamaki, the president, approached them and asked them to join because of their good looks. Ever since, they have been participating in the club, though they seem to never actually take a keen interest in women like everyone else...

Perhaps that is because they feel something for each other instead...

They're quite close for brothers, after all. They've never gotten in a fight, though they have pretended to do so for devious purposes. They both enjoy relatively the same things, and they do the same things too. They usually come upon a mutual agreement on something without even thinking about it, and when they disagree, it's usually resolved very fast.

It's obvious that they're close for brothers, or even twins... But are they even closer than that...?

Hikaru is the more rash of the two brothers. He does more and thinks less. That being said, he is also the slightly more immature of the two brothers, and also a little more dense at times, especially when it comes to love. When it comes to love, he's a little hopeless unless his brother gives him some direction. It's actually a little ironic that he's the older one.
But, he is outgoing and funny, always looking for something interesting to do. He doesn't care much about boring crap and will usually ignore it unless it is absolutely necessary. Hikaru just loves to have fun.
He's also the one that always gets hurt for some reason. Whenever they're in the Club and acting out one of their 'brotherly love' scenes, he's always the one that gets hurt, and Kaoru's always the one that has to save him, making the scene complete.
Hikaru is also a lot more easily jealous than his brother. Being irrational, he usually jumps to quick conclusions and then takes quick actions before thinking further of what would happen afterwords. Sometimes, what he does is selfish, but there is no one around him to reprimand him for it, and it usually doesn't bring much consequence anyways.

Kaoru is the more patient and mature of the twins, even though occasionally, they do just both appear to be equally immature—or mature. Kaoru is understanding and very patient, even though he may not seem it on occasion. He listens and will take the time to reply to anyone's question.
Kaoru isn't more introverted or anything, though. He's just more calm and rational when he needs to be. He's still just as outgoing though and as equally fun loving as Hikaru.
Kaoru is the one that always swoops in and protects his brother or saves his brother whenever they're playing their little 'brotherly love' game up in the Club.
Kaoru has a much better understanding of love than his brother, and can usually recognize it first thing in other people, though he's never had the occasion to recognize it in himself.
But, if anything, he'd be the first to realize that he loved his brother, rather than the other way around.
Kaoru's style of loving though, is really selfless. He will do whatever it takes to see the one that he loves happy, rather than try to get that person to love him, if they don't. He cares a lot about other people and usually puts those that he cares about before himself—even though outwardly, he most probably would appear just as insane and devilish as his brother.

When Hikaru woke, he rolled over to the side and fell off of the bed with a loud thud.
That was odd. Usually his brother was there to stop him before they both fell, then Kaoru would slightly reprimand him and they would either both wake up or go to bed once again.
The sunlight was streaming down through the opening of their shades, shining right on Hikaru. That forced him to wake up after a while, for lying there in direct sunlight was a bit uncomfortable.
He was a little confused at first, but eventually understood that Kaoru had left without him yet again.
Hikaru reprimanded himself. He had to wake up earlier just to keep the routine the way that it used to be.
Getting dressed quickly, he ran into the Third Music Room at about one and a half hours after Kaoru had arrived, still munching on his breakfast, his tie slightly done the wrong way.
"Hey!" he saluted, approaching Tamaki, who by now had finished with Haruhi's costume.
That was when he remembered the theme, and dashed off to the changing room, finding Kaoru there, also trying to get into his Arabic clothing.
Next to Kaoru was a folded pile of clothing that matched Kaoru's.
Undoubtedly, it was Hikaru's.
"Hey, Kaoru!"
Hikaru pouted jokingly as he picked up his items.
"Mean of you to leave without me, you know."

Hikaru smiled when Kaoru checked his temperature, knowing that Kaoru wouldn't even need to. They both knew that Hikaru wasn't sick.
Hikaru didn't even know why he was staying so late himself...
Well, actually, he did know, but he never really found a good time to bring it up to his brother. Perhaps later when they were walking home or something. The other days, they had always been busy with the club far past time to talk.
Hikaru finished changing quickly as well, and was looking at himself in the mirror, observing how the white cloth flowed. He liked Arabian silk.
"We shouldn't pull the 'Brotherly Quarrel'... Hmm... What do you think?"
Hikaru laughed, fixing his bangles ever so slightly so that they showed off the nice side of his wrists better.
Satisfied, he turned to Kaoru and sallied over to him, reaching over to fix the beads hanging down Kaoru's neck.
Placing his chin right at the crook of Kaoru's neck and shoulder, he smiled.
"No. We used that last time... How about I cut myself a little? I mean, my flawless skin as to be broken occasionally."

Hikaru smiled up at the two girls, one of which had been with them before. The other was very cute, as was actually all the ladies at Ouran, and Hikaru smiled at them both.
"My, my. You both are looking quite beautiful today!"
The girls blushed and sat down, now sort of forming a sort of two sided thing on the mat, Hikaru and Kaoru facing the two of them.
One of the girls, the one that had been with them before, smiled a little and giggled.
"Thank you..."
She made sure to not say the name, since she didn't want to embarrass herself by getting it wrong.
The other girl smiled and blushed equally.
In a soft voice, she murmured, "I'm Yamamoto Hisoka."
Hikaru turned to his brother and smiled before turning back to the girls.
"I'm Hikaru!" he introduced with great enthusiasm.

Hikaru accepted the cup and took a small sip, though he was actually quite thirsty.
Of course, he couldn't really show that, for that would be out of line and not polite.
When he saw Kaoru run a hand through his hair like he did so well, Hikaru put his cup down.
It was time for the fun to begin.
"We just want to see to your lovely smiles."
Change of plans! This was too good an opportunity to pass off for Hikaru to not make something out of it.
"But what about mine, Kaoru?" Hikaru whimpered, piquing the interest of both the ladies.
"In recent times, it seems like all you care about is the girls... What about me?"
He looked up at Kaoru with sparkling eyes, like a puppy begging to be let back in the house.
Hisoka blushed, not sure if this intimate moment was supposed to be encroached upon or not, but the other girl was entranced. She was quite close to squealing in delight as the scene unfolded.
It would all rest on what Kaoru did in return.

Hikaru laughed when the girls walked off.
Kaoru had pulled it off perfectly.
The marvels of being twins like they were was that when one thought of something, the other sort of automatically sensed it. No external communication needed.
"Well, that was a good one you pulled, Hikaru."
Hikaru smiled, remembering the scene.
"Just thought I'd switch it up a little. It's unfair that you get to be the uke all the time, you know."
He pouted jokingly and poked his brother in the arm.
But it really was different, he had to agree. It felt a little odd too. Perhaps they'd return to the way it was for the next line, but this one was a good change in pace, Hikaru thought.
"You don't look half bad, saying romantic crap like that," Hikaru added with a grin.

Hikaru found his gaze absentmindedly trail to Haruhi as Kaoru was talking.
She was doing her usual thing, fooling all the girls into thinking that she was a guy. And though Hikaru admitted that she did look like a 'cute' guy, she looked much, much better as a girl...
His thoughts went back to that time when they were out on a 'date.' Well, no one else seemed to think that it was a date at the time. Hikaru didn't think it either.
But now, he started getting a sneaking suspicion that perhaps it was maybe something more in his mind. Just maybe...
Before he could further dwell on that thought, one of the girls sitting with them caught his attention and asked, "Are you... are you all right?"
Surely, Kaoru had seen how abstracted he had been from the conversation. He knew that Kaoru knew, and no doubt it would cause Kaoru to worry.
They would have to talk about it later, in addition to the reason why he was staying in so late.
"I'm fine," Hikaru replied with a handsome smile.
He took her hand and laughed.
"Worrying about me makes you quite cute, though."
She blushed, and Hikaru released her hand with a smile.
But his smiles at the moment were less heart felt than his way of trying to make Kaoru forget about his distracted countenance...
But deep down, Hikaru knew that his brother had sensed it all, and that his brother would have a chat with him later on.

Hikaru shuddered inwardly when he felt his brother's anxious glance.
He didn't need to look over. He knew it was there.
"Hikaru... You..."
At first, Hikaru thought that this would have been a comment about his faraway look, but both the tone and situation were too different.
Hikaru sensed another moment coming on, and immediately put himself into it.
"I worry about you all the time. And yet, you never say that I'm cute."
Hikaru turned with a passionate expression and cupped his brother's cheek with one hand, brushing away a strand of his brother's hair with the other.
"Kaoru... Let me tell you something," he whispered, loud enough so that the girls across from them could hear.
"Girls are cute... But only one man is beautiful..."
To make up for his slightly distracted state before, Hikaru sealed the whole situation with a small kiss on Kaoru's nose.
Pulling away slightly, he smiled.
"I hope you know that's you."
The girls across from them squealed, and that was the first time that Hikaru had ever found himself to be forgetful.
He had actually forgotten about their audience. His only aim had been to get Kaoru to feel that things had returned back to normal, and that he had nothing to worry about.
The girls soon left with a parting wave.
