Hey Guys I know its been a while since I have been active in the guild. Today I've decided to post my build for what I think would be the obilisk deck to beat! It still has kinks to work out and lots more refining, but I've tested it and its seems to do fairly decent. Its really good matched up against a slow deck. I even took a rough draft of it to my locals for some more testing. And it didn't fail. It didn't take home first place, but I got 2 wins off the deck that I felt wouldn't get me anywhere. SO after some rethinking and revising I decided this is the way I'd like it to look.

~Deck list~
Monsters: 18
Obilisk the Tormentor 3
Hardened armed dragon 3
Gaurdian of Eatos 3
Beast King Barbados 3
D.D. Surviver 3
Jester Confit 1
Spell stricker 1
Cyber Dragon 1

Magic:
Upstart Goblin 3
D.D. Fissure 3
Soul Exchange 2
Brain Control 1
Trade In 3
Reinforcements of the Army 1

Traps:
Macro Cosmos 1
Dark Bribe 3
Solumn Judement 1
Return from the Different Dimmension 1
Overwhelm 2
Threating Roar 3

So basically the idea behind this deck is to get out the ultamate Jugernaut that can't be killed by nearly anything. You may say well Trip hes not nearly that ultamate. Your probably thinking I can take care of this guy with so many cards on my turn its not even funny and heck most are staples! Well you would be right. He is really slow even though he has many redeaming quality's. On a outright list hes weaknesses are as fallows- Honest, Kalut (destroy by battle), Mirror Force, Lighting vortex, Fissure, Smashing ground, a well timed torrential on the opponents turn the list could go on.
But why do I give him the title of being the Ultamate unstoppable Oblilisk?
In this deck he can be! When the right card combinations are in play you can't beat Obilisk. What am I talking about? The best three support cards for obilisk are as fallows

1. Hardened armed dragon- Hes important to obilisk because he can make Obilisk come out possible on the first turn! Not only that, but hes abbility works with obilisk to make him undestroyable! This to me is huge because it covers a great amount of his weaknesses. Plus with his own Awsome effect of not being targeted this leaves him only being killed by battle.

2. Different Dimension fissure- I've never been to fond of this card. Only the combos that it goes with. This card and Macro Cosmos do three things for obilisk They slow down his opponents and provide him with protection to. But on top of that it gives him a possible endless amount of tribute fodder. In the form of D.D. Surviver. This is good when attempting to get him on the field as well as using his trigger effect. Which when used allows him to rip through the enemy line. This is almost on par with the effectiveness of Hardened arm because it covers his only other flaw of being destroyed by Kaluts or Honest. Lets face it hes gona be the only thing on the field and big enough that without those battle winning cards he can't be bested.

3. Lastly there is Overwhelm. Why Overwhelm Trip? It may seem Overwhelming to ever activate such a card. That may be the case for any normal decks out there, but not for this one. You pull out anyone of your huge beefcake monsters in this deck and Overwhelm will wipe the floor with your enemies. The biggest threat this takes care of is that well played torential tribute or even Judgement dragon (if somehow with all the removal he manages to come out on you). Only cards that mess up multiple cards can really hamper this deck. That being Icarus attack or Celestial and JD. But with this card its not a problem. Its effect reads "Activate only while you control a face-up Level 7 or higher monster that was Tribute Summoned. Negate the activation of a Trap card or Monster's Effect and destroy that Card".

And there we have it a Ultamately Unstoppable Obilisk. Once he hits the field and you have at least the first two requirements met its basically game over for your oppnent. I pulled this guy out on my oppnent at my locals last week and at first the guy gave it a stare then I told them that I had already won and the game was mine. He said "What?!" asked for obliisk "I'll just turtle up he says". I replied telling him it wouldn't do any good with obilisks second effect. He looked at it a second time and his confidence dropped like a ton of bricks. You could tell by his facial expression that he reallized I locked him down for a Oblilisk Beatdown. He tried to survive with Collasal Fighter, but I side borded in my bottomless trap holes.
As fun as that duel was I won and was thourghly pleased with myself. Even though I had a horrible day (I got pulled over getting there then my caster was stolen in the card shop).
Even funnier was his deck was at least a tier two deck if not tier one. mrgreen Well tell me what you think of this deck. What would you improve? I still need to get the Gaurdians, but they will be worth it just for the beatdown power alone. Stay Blue guys razz

You are talking about the official version right? Just a little worried when I saw the blue version.

First of all, not running Level eater is a big, HUGE mistake with this deck. Try a build more like this.

Monsters: 20
Obelisk the Tormentor x 3
Dark Armed Dragon
Hardened armed dragon x 2
Beast King Barbaros x 3
Trageodia x 3
Level Eater x 3
Dark Grepher x 2
Necro Guardna x 2
Cyber Dragon 1

Magic: 11
Allure of Darkness x 2
Book of Moon x 3
Gold Sarcophagus x 2
Mystical Space Typhoon
Heavy Storm
Brain Control
Reinforcements of the Army

Traps: 9
Dark Bribe x 2
Solemn Judgment
Metal Reflect Slime
Phoenix Wing Wind Blast x 2
Torrential Tribute
Bottomless Trap Hole x 2

Something like that should work wonders.

I don't think you understand the reason why I made this deck. Its not just for obelisk to hit the field, but to gain complete control of the duel with him being summoned. If I used your version of the deck Obelisk could still be tooken out by two very common monsters in the metagame that being Kalut and Honest. Thats the reason I decided to go with removal. I did think about building a deck with level eater, but theres still a very big chance that you have to play LS or BW in todays current meta hence being as obelisk isn't fast enough to outspeed these decks you have to outmuscle them. Having a untouchable 4000/4000 on your side of the field with a monster destruction effect guerenties victory.

Its built more like a lockdown win condition. If the proper set up takes place he can't be killed unless the overpowerhim by battle without the use of honest and Kalut. Therefore its mostlikely not going to happen for any of the meta decks exspecially if you have gotten enough of your back row to basically say I win. From then its just a matter of time. mrgreen

With the build you had before, you might as well have replaced obelisk with Eatos, then it would be a fairly nice anti-meta deck, Dimensional Eatos. Kalut and Honest are always going to be a problem, especially since if you're facing those decks, they both have MST, Heavy, Icarus and sided dusts
for BW, Lyla and sided decrees or catastrophes for LS. You are aiming for too much trying to shut everything down to get out obelisk while ignoring that they have a whole deck at their disposal, and your only win condition is to get out a big monster.

You may think that they can just get rid of my back row, but they can't. Thats why I provided protection to stop them for being able to do that with 3 dark bribes, solmn, 2 overwhelms, and then to speed the deck up so that it becomes easier to get D fissure or macro cosmos I added in 3 upstart goblins, and 3 trade in. I feel this deck should work fairly well. It has a lot of cards that will shut down my opponent. Like I said I just need Obelisk to come out with a hardend arm and one D fissure or macro and pretty soon that becomes game. Exspessially if I have a set D bribe or solmn judgement.

That kind of strategy is nice for a local and all, well, actually, I wouldn't suggest an obelisk deck for a high level tournament anyway so, w/e, I suppose your build is fine then. I find it to be a bit too situational, but maybe that's just me.

hmm... The only way I can play with a big guy like that is pack my deck with things like Nimble Momonga, Giant Germa, Mecha Bunnies, and other search/summon cards. Of course you have a few beat sticks in there to defend yourself with then I'd be packed with traps and spells >.<

Then again I only worry about opponents attacking >.<

Yah I wouldn't play this in a huge tournament. For one I'm unable to get Eatos so I can't really deck test this and two I don't like having to give up three monsters for one unless I know that it can't be killed.

Nothing is unkillable, there's always a way to get rid of anything in this game. Putting more effort into it then what's needed is a problem though. That's why I suggested my build, you essentially only need one monster, and most of them can be SS all in one turn. I'd suggest a more expensive build utilizing the Destiny Engine, but only if you're interested.

I've heard of the destiny build with Obelisk, but I just don't really have the money for it. I have to play gadgets because its the most expensive deck I can afford to run without spending stupid amounts of my savings.
But like I said earlier If I have 3 cards in the backrow and a hardend armed Obelisk out then they pretty much can't stop him. Those three being like a dark bribe, Overwhelm, and D Fissure. Ultimate unstoppable Obelisk. mrgreen

So you can consistently manage to get out 3 monsters to tribute for obelisk, one of them always being hardened armed dragon, and still draw into an almost perfect line of defense while your opponent hasn't done anything relevant the whole duel?
