Hey, I'm Mariya. I'm 19, university student (with a boring part-time desk job), currently living in Australia. I'm Ukrainian by origin and have also lived in the US for a while (hopefully Canada in the future!). I'm here for two reasons: to lose weight and to improve my health. I have good willpower when it comes to exercise, but I fail to eat well. Hopefully this journal will help me (I wouldn't want to post anything about binging on here, so there's motivation for you!)

My stats as at Wednesday 2 December 2009:

Age: 19
Height: 5"7 (I think, unless I grew. I hope not.)
Weight: 138.5 lb / 63 kg

Goals:
- 125-130 lbs by end of May 2010, my birthday;
- Improve my diet over this time and maintain it.

I weigh myself on Wednesdays. My favorite exercises include cycling, jogging, yoga, hiking and climbing -- unfortunately I'm pretty off-and-on about them. I don't usually go to the gym unless I have a free pass. Also, I don't count calories because I'm lazy (but I'll post them if it gives the amount on the box).

Any suggestions to help me improve my routine would be very welcome!

WEEK 1 DAY 3 - FRIDAY 4 DECEMBER 2009

FOOD:

Breakfast: Wholegrain oats with strawberries and honey.

Lunch: Soup (Tuscan Vegetable) - 118 cal.

Dinner: Salad that includes some pasta and an assortment of fresh vegetables, with a bit of mayo and lemon juice. (New recipe for me! =D)

Snacks: Dry figs, mandarin

Drinks: Green tea, water

EXERCISE:

- Yoga 40 mins

COMMENTS: Know what's really amazing? I looked in the mirror today and saw someone thinner, healthier and prettier than a few days ago. Physically, I am the same as I always was -- but it's a psychological change because having made the commitment to be healthy, I feel so much better about myself. It's a complete shift in attitude. I know psychologists say this all the time (be positive, blah blah blah) but I didn't truly believe it until now. =3

I'm taking a little three-day trip tomorrow, and I don't know if there will be internet available. If not, I'll update my journal when I get back. =3 I am kinda worried about what I'll have to eat, though. I'll try to bring healthy stuff with me, lol. Stock up for three days. =D

WEEK 1 DAY 4 - SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER 2009

FOOD:

Breakfast: Wholegrain cereal (Weet-Bix) with strawberries, almonds, honey and soy milk.

Lunch: A funny looking vegetable with onion, fried; an apple.

Dinner: Pasta salad (with vegetables & mayo), some sundried tomatoes with bits of feta, grilled chicken.

Dessert: A small slice of tiramisu (it's a light Italian cake with a bit of liquor in it -- very yummy).

Snacks: Dry figs, cherry tomatoes

Drinks: Green tea, water, apple juice (1 glass).

EXERCISE:

- Cycling 1 hr 40 mins;
- Mowed our (rather small) lawn.

COMMENTS: Got up at 6 today and went cycling before my trip, which was totally unplanned but very welcome. I started reading a book called Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. It was only published last year and is very, very interesting. I would totally recommend it. =3

Sunny Perth. Sunny and equally hot. But the beaches are great, so hopefully there's a new bikini on the horizon, lol!

I've heard of it, but I'm not that great at geography (though there's a world map hanging over my table which I stare at a lot, but never learn anything -- how sad). But I do know where Sydney is, lol. The nature up there is so much more beautiful than in Perth (in my opinion). And I'm a nature freak.

I will never get used to having Christmas in the middle of summer. What's Christmas without snow and all the wonderful things it encompasses?

Oh god.
I've grown up with aussie christmas's so i'm fairly used to it,
But i can still never handle our 40 degree days without air-con.
My boyfriend lives in canada,
and therefore has the pleasure of sometimes having a white christmas.
and he hates christmas.
such an ungrateful man.
lol lol lol
Just kidding, he loves his country.
but seriously, how can he hate a white christmas
with a REAL tree.
