Actually, what I want is a LGBT/GLBT guild for college-age peeps. Yanno, maturity, open-mindedness, intelligence, and VISIBILITY (*cough* passive activism *cough*).

I love some of the parameters and premises of the game (obviously, because I'm already level 36, almost 37, so I've been sticking around), but really I don't like a.) the inability of same-sex couples to gain recognition the same as opposite-sex couples (granted, I know the difficulties of changing this considering MapleStory originates from conservative Korea AND the current elevated air of controversy surrounding the subject IRL America), and b.) the general air of gross selfishness, ignorance and immaturity expressed/displayed by the teen and pre-teen demographics on MapleStory (granted again, I'm aware that this game is geared towards such RLn00b demographics, but... sometimes I fear for the future of this world, if this is what our youth looks like stressed mad talk2hand neutral confused sweatdrop ).

My name in Windia is Babarei. If you know of one or are a part of one, please contact me, because I'd like to join. =*D

I've heard of one called RainbowMafia, but I'm not sure if it still exists. confused

And if not, I'll eventually create my own! Name suggestions?

Here's a few:

-Lambda

-ThePinkTriangle (The_Pink_Triangle)

-Over_the_Rainbow

-HappyFolk

-Pride

-OddCouples (maybe geared towards Maplers in same-sex relationships?)

-Homophiles/Homophiliacs (emphasizing the romantic over the sexual aspects of same-sex relationships, which would be appropriate for a game geared towards youngsters, especially since laypeople sometimes automatically think of homosexual behavior in terms of sexual deviance and sexual activity, and as such see it as more inappropriate for youngsters than opposite-sex relations (ahem: which is, I think, silly and extremely biased... what, you guys don't think we are capable of true love? PAH.))

-TheSpartans

-Kinsey

-Kings (geared more toward gender-bending individuals)

-Queens (geared more toward gender-bending individuals)

-Ganymede

-Kings_and_Queens (geared more toward gender-bending individuals)

-Poets_of_Sappho (this one seems like it would be more geared towards lesbians, but maybe could be included in a GSA guild alliance)

-Poets_of_Byron (this one seems like it would be more geared towards bisexual individuals, but maybe could be included in a GSA guild alliance)

-Poets_of_Whitman (this one seems like it would be more geared towards gay men, but maybe could be included in a GSA guild alliance)

(Can you tell I'm an English major yet? xd )

-Friends_of_Dorothy (this one seems like it would be more geared towards gay men, but maybe could be included in a GSA guild alliance)

AND, since this is an Asian game and the guild names for queer folk will have to be somewhat obscure anyway...

-Duanbei ("brokebacks")

-Shudo/ Nanshuko (I believe these words refer Japan's homosexual love affairs seen in the old Samurai culture... they were Spartan-esque affairs in the sense that they were seen in the military class and involved one older "mentor" fully-grown man and one young "student" boyish type, en lieu of the top/bottom or dom/sub or butch/femme dynamics we see elsewhere)

-Kathoey ("ladydudes")

Other suggestions...

Thinking of the relationship between older/younger men in Spartan, Samurai, and various other older cultures, I have an idea: why not use the Family function in MapleStory in this context? A couple wanting to form a "legit" bond in MS could arrange themselves in terms of junior/senior, with the higher lvl character as senior and lower lvl character as junior. Having this as a one-on-one exclusive relationship (no two juniors per senior, that is, but only one junior per senior, and no chain-of-command with juniors being seniors over other juniors) within these GSA guilds could represent coupling instead of the rings system (which is currently exclusive to opposite-sex character relationships). Other informed GSA guild members would thus recognize these junior-senior relationships as couples, en lieu of the rings.
