The band "Flymore" has always been associated as sounding very similar to KoRn and I believe that they've openly stated as KoRn being a major inspiration (correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly don't know very much about them)...but what do you make of the following?

This is from the old school KoRn website, my personal favorite (which you can download for your own personal enjoyment here: http://korn.simpol.net/media/flash/ ):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm9MtSXfRcU

Hear that untitled song? Well, remember that and now have a listen at this:

Now you tell me: inspiration...or theft?

I was expecting just a similar riff or something, not completely copying both the guitar and bass o_O; They even added wind to it -_-

Wow,
This is horrible.
I'm all for a KoRn inspired band and all but...
That's taking it to far,
Stealing KoRn's actual music and making a profit off of it without even giving credit to KoRn?
The band that so-called 'inspired' your own band?
That's ******** up.
On many different levels.

Apparently Flymore's admitted that this is indeed that song, and it's a cover. They've got songs like Wake Up, Queen Of The Damned, and Hold On, all of which can be attributed to their Korn homages. Low guitar tones, audible bass guitar, and emotional lyrics don't mean automatic rip-off of a huge band, and if their vocalist can pull of JD's vocal style than props to him, not many people can. I don't think it's that big of a deal now >_>;

Do you have a website or video I can watch that proves they've admitted that song being a cover or KoRn? Because the most I found was this on Flymore's MySpace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eSCUmTINhs captioned "Shawn telling the truth!" in which the guy in the video says that Flymore simply likes KoRn and their style and that they sound the same upon first listen. He seems more frustrated by the fact "KoRn fans" take Flymore's s**t and put it up on YouTube saying it's "KoRn's new s**t". We know those are just the sheep...but anyways, my main focus is that KoRn.com and Asylum are EXACT and I don't see any statements claiming Asylum is a cover of that song. If you can find the proof, I'll let it rest - I'm not saying you're wrong or attakcing you or anything, I just want evidence. *huggyhug* <3

Nope, I've been wondering that myself. I was told to just ask them myself on MySpace, so I've already gone and did that. Just waiting for a reply now >_>

[edit] Alright, they've confirmed it is indeed that same song.

"hi there
yeahhh that was korn's heme (korn web themne).
well man we use it only as a bverse and thats all!!! we put vocal parts there and add our own riffs so thats how we have got Asylum"

I personally like what they're doing. I'd have to get used to the vocals a little bit, but it's nice to hear that other people still appreciate the old Korn sound. I honestly think they're doing a better job than Head is, whether he was trying to or not.

I'm really iffy about them right now. I say thieves. But thats just my opinion.
If you listen to Flymore's song "All the time I bled" I think the music sounds very similar to
"It's On!"

All the time I bled

Anyone Else Agree?

That's just influence. Any band that's ACTUALLY influenced by another WILL have songs that are similar to said influence. They take a song they like from the band they like, change a bunch of stuff, and run with it. That's how you build a song influenced from your favorite bands. I've had a couple really good bands flat-out tell me this. Korn isn't the only band allowed to have audible bass guitars, low-tuned electric guitars, and emotional lyrics. The only thing that makes Korn stand out from any other band is JD and the fact that you can clearly hear the bass guitar anyways, and they're only doing half of that. And they've got dreads, which takes a really ******** long time to do. Any band that says they're influenced by Korn and don't really sound like them get laughed at for not being able to replicate Korn's sound. This band comes along and says they're influenced by Korn, actually do a good job at making the same style as Korn, and people instantly get pissed. I bet if I made a band that was Korn-influenced, had all the guys get dreads, and actually did a good job sounding like Korn, everyone would say it's badass.

Sigh. I'm taking the time from my busy life to butt in here, and I just have this to say:

I have been aware of this band for quite some time now, they've been around for ages. I do appreciate that they're fans claiming to be 'inspired' by Korn, the greatest influence in their lives and quite blatantly, their music.

HOWEVER, there is a clear and marked difference between influence/inspiration and pure thievery, and this 'Flymore' band is teetering on the edge of this hypothetical border. Music is an artform, though lacking in any physical shape or form, a band's unique style is apparent in all their work - it becomes their signature if you will. It is about creativity and originality. Now as artists hear and inspire each other, of course a degree of direct influence is going to be inevitable.

Now, there are TONNES of bands INFLUENCED by Korn, comprised of fans love and appreciate their style; so much that they feel the need to incorporate aspects of Korn's unique sound into the creation of theirs. I can name quite a few off the top of my head; artists such as Otep, Droid, Sevendust, Heavensdust, Cog, Karnivool, Disturbed, Coal Chamber (when they were still together) - hell, even Limp Bizkit. Ok, now they're just a few who have claimed to be inspired some way or another by an aspect of Korn - from lyrics to bass sounds to whatever. But do they sound exactly like Korn do? No. Do they try their hardest to REPLICATE Korn? No!

Here is my case in point. Good for Flymore that Korn has influenced and inspired them. But a line must be drawn between influence and pure goddamn REPLICATION. That is why there is such a furore over this band. It's not just a case of 'similarity' anymore, they seem to be consciously ripping off Korn's signature sound instead of melding it with their own like a true artist would. That is the point of music - for artists to build in their inspiration, not just 'slap-dash-totally-copy' their favorite band's style sound to the point where they could be considered almost clones. Then it becomes pure and blatant thievery.

So that's my two cents on this whole issue. I hold the position that yes, Flymore do a great job soundwise (vocals = no, lyrics = double no); but they're either thieves or just not talented enough to be truly original or creative in any way.

---------------------------------

And back to my hiatus I go... seeya when I graduate people! ^_^
Cheers.

I like your two pennies, Irene. And I agree with what you said completely. There is a line between thievery and inspiration, and Flymore is standing directly on it. I think we can close this case now. LMFAO.
