I've always liked our history. Yes, so half the time it was brutal and bloodthirsty with extreme poverty and a vengeance against witches but hey, there were good times too. I think.
*cough* So anyway. Which is your favourite era or event of British History, whether it's an honourable time or simply has enough bloodhthirstiness in it to appease you?

Ah, this a good topic, indeed. smile
I would have to go for the Napoleonic Era where we delivered a thrustful boot up ol' Nappy's arse. whee

anyone seen any of the latest series of "time Team" on Channel four? our pub-quiz team is "The Phil Harding Fanclub...we all turn up at quiz nights wearing our hats with feathers in and chourus "Arrr Tony!" whenever we win a round..all the chavs haven`t the slightest what we`re doing! Ever since walking with my Late father at the farm he grew up in...just outside of Luton, and finding a flint arrowhead I`ve been fascinated by \our Island`s history....

I absolutely love British history... and I'm finding it hard to pick a certain 'era' as my favourite.
...I would probably say from 1066 - right upto the Hundred Years' War. (You can probably tell I like that period just from looking at my username).
The Middle-Ages in general would be my favourite.Quote: anything before the romans RUINED Albion forever I disagree with that... The Romans came and went... If any event in history 'ruined Albion forever' it was the discovery of America.

Longbow UK If any event in history 'ruined Albion forever' it was the discovery of America. wink Hear hear!
My areas of choice runs from the Reign of Elizabeth I to the death of Victoria. I'm reasonably interested in the two wars but really, it doesn't hold the same gravitas as the full swing of Empire.
*sigh*
Sometimes I mourn that loss. I think we should probably make some tempt at reunifying the British commonwealth into some sort of coherent international force. A force to be reckoned with.
Sooner that than America's b***h or in the tangle that is Europe.
But yes, anyway..
*suppresses imperialist fervour*

I'd love to discover more about the Britain's history during the Crusades, and in the Roman times, back when we were bloodthirsty Celts. :]

For the Empire! scream

Hmm, not that long gone and though I'm not looking for any sort of soon-to-arrive superpowerdom, I'm sure that were the British Commonwealth to be changed a little and unite more. We could have a force with at least the diplomatic and economic strength of Europe, that would put us back on the map. Next to a flagging USA.
Heir to the throne, except. We've already been there.
I'm sure we didn't spill untold gallons of blood overseas so that we can read tabloids about Colleen's new bag, or to watch another series of celebrity big brother.
*sigh*
It's going to the dogs, we need change.

~eyes Invi~ You take all the best bits...
Well, already mentioned is the great Elizabethan period. Now, while it may seem a little daft, my interest in this particular time was sparked by finding out that I am related (albeit tenuously - his first wife was a lots-of-greats aunt) to that great pirate himself, Sir Francis Drake. Not only this, but his house, Buckland Abbey, is situated a mere couple of miles from my own home village on Dartmoor.
There are also Iron Age and Bronze Age settlements all over the moor, many of which I have spent happy hours wandering through over the years...

It's going to the dogs, we need change. Even if there was change, America would still have control over Britain, and indeed Europe, as it does now. neutral If we really wanted to get back on the map again, something would need to be done about America first.
Besides, do you really think the Americans would tolerate another superpower running along side them? Look what happened to Russia when they rose up after WW2. We could have another Cold War on our hands. ...not that that would be entirely bad. A lot of countries hate America, you know. It does make me wonder just who would have the upper-hand if that was to happen.[/warmongering rant]
