As you may or may not know, your darling XWraith_LordX lives in Southern California. Right now there's yet another fire there....and I can see it....from my HOUSE. I was coming home from seeing a wonderful performance of Hamlet and I see it, the hills burning like someone poured lava and gasoline over them, and lit a hundred matchs. The hills are burning, the night is literally on fire. If you get up on my roof, move some buildings and trees, you can see the fire creeping down the hillside.

I'm listening to the news updates now. Yesterday the entire city of LA had a massive fire-drill to prepare for a massive earthqauke that's coming within 30 years. Now this.

I'm safe, my area is urbanized enough and far enough that the fire will burn itself out before it reaches me. I'm safe...

...but these days, who is?

What have you seen from your house? confused

We usually only get hurricanes here but there hasn't been a really bad one since 96.

The most I have here would be dust storms, lightning storms, flash floods, etc.
Arizona is a pretty boring state for natural wrath.

I'm too far south to see the fires.

All I see is a main road, some shops and a roundabout.

I've seen a few bad lightning storms, runoff from a flood and a blizzard or two before. That's about it. Nothing too interesting on the dryer eastern side of Michigan.

This isn't meant to sound rude, and I am not targeting anyone with this statement so please, understand.

I don't understand why people would live in a place where natural disasters are known to happen yearly. It just seems like common sense to me not to live somewhere where I know my house has a large chance of being destroyed within a few years. Kind of like you should never buy or live in a house thats at the bottom of a valley because thats where floods happen..

I wonder the same thing too.

Unfortunatley I wasn't arround when my ancestors decided to move from various countries and settle here. stare We're under constant threat of fire, drought, and earthqaukes.

I'm moving out of here as soon as I get the chance. (There are other reasons too, but I won't go into those now.)

Ok good, so I'm not the only one who often wondered that.

Well, I hope everything works out for you.

Uh....the transformer in the parking lot next to my apartment exploded one night?

I see horrible storms happen a lot from my balcony. We can get some decent snow storms here, nothing to big.
Tornadoes avoid Wichita for some reason......maybe it's all the "smug" biggrin

Uh....really, it's just Windy most of the time, rains a bit, gets hot, then cold, and yeah....
Greensburg was destroyed a couple years back. Now that would have been something to see out a window.

So...sadly not much.

Hurricanes and tornados! Basic Florida survival is surviving one of these! ♥ its all we do when theres a hurricane we sit around the windows looking through the cracks of the boards over the windows. Its rather entertaining when you think about it.

Its the only natural disaster I've ever been through so its pretty noraml now since we have had a couple. usually I sleep through these things.
