Actually its not something you take a formal load of classes on although, colleges and universities will offer this exam for those entering the medical billing world.

AMBA: American Medical Billing Association
By passing the 700 question exam, you earn the CMRS credential which is a national recognition.

They are about to be approved by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), which is a huge federal entity, and they are recognized by the distance learning and secondary education agencies across the US.
