Just saw a commercial for the DVD release of Iron Man as of September 30th, and i'm excited. I'll be looking for a special edition!
By the by, what did you think of Iron Man the movie? my opinion is already splayed out as the title of this thread, of course. To be honest, though I wasn't crazy about the movie (didn't follow internet chatter) before it came to theaters. Iron man as a superhero sounded blah to me - he's a genius with lots and lots of money, yeah big deal. I didn't see those 'qualities' as valid super powers, they were about as mundane as super strength or stamina to me. WHAT WAS THE BIG DRAW?
Iron Man the movie changed that for me. I thought that it wonderfully showcased Tony Stark's genius as being on the level of mutant abilities, his gobs of money were just a plus. Visually the movie was kick a** too - and i'm not just talking about Downey! : } The opening sequence of the movie got me hooked, and for most of the play time I wanted to shout 'Woooohooo, yeah, yeah!'.
I did, however, find that the answer to the problems that Tony's weaponry created was ... a little corny. Tony Stark, to me, is not the tights wearing super hero/villain that i'm used to and as such i'd expect him to act less dramatically. That's just based off of my watching the movie and a secret love for the X-men, it's not at all based off of years of following his development in comic books.
People who watched the movie, liked Iron Man before the movie, etc. discuss.

well iron man is a womanizing hero in armor. he is human but can take down mutants and cyborgs with out looking like a noob. he didnt get bit by a spider, nor did he find a magic hammer. yet still the top two heros from DC and Marvel are Super Man and Spider Man...does anyone know why?
...I do. but it's clearly obvious, they wear the same color...jk.

I agree with what was said so far. The appeal of Iron man is that he is a regular guy with a great many character flaws like drinking, and womanizing. He has a near death experience and creates the iron man suit to escape. Every version of this character shares these similarities. People can relate to a human in an amazing suit of armor, since it is somewhat plausible. The movie actually made me like the character, as before then I had been more interested in the Mandarin, one of his old foes. The old comics are great, and if you get your hands on a copy check out the graphic novel: Demon in a Bottle. Tony fights off being an alchoholic, and it's just a really great Iron man book!

Going from what you said about his character flaws, I was glad to see that he and Pepper didn't end up together. Their entire relationship throughout the film illustrated one of the movie's themes: your actions carry consequences with them.
I'll try to find that novel, too.

I think the film was good but it was more a showcase for his suit. i remember when i found out about the casting for the movie i was a bit aprehensive on how Stark would turn out. I thought about it for abit and realized how it kinda made sense. Then after seeing the preview i was pretty freakin stoked! ^_^ Stark is human and an alchohaulic womanizer but he's also a brilliant strategist. He seems to be prepared for many different things during a battle.
When i saw that they made him side with the govenment in Civil War i was pretty pissed and watching his actions i was pretty angry at what his decisions had brought upon the Marvel universe.
Then i read his graphic novel and saw his actions were more than just "The government is right"
okay i've strayed away from the movie <_<
I think they did a good job but i wanted to see more fighting rather than a showcase of the suit.
I was excited to see the scene at the end of the credits 3nodding
did anybody see The Hulk and saw the cameo of Stark?

Well, in reading a Rolling Stone interview of Robert Downey Jr. I found out that the director did not want him for the role. I think that he was magnificent in it. But, he really does sound like the Batman of Marvel. ;p
I vaguely follow what you're referring to, you just need to mention that you're talking about the comic book Tony before you talk about the Civil War. Anyhow, you mean his involvement with the start of the Earth-295 storyline?
Anyhow, my brother didn't believe me when I said that Samuel L. Jackson was in the movie.
Saw The Hulk too~

charamath Where was Samuel Jackson in there? You don't mean the friend, right? And waht was at the end of the credits? I walked out before then. Gah! The cong.fusion! At the end of the credits there was a cameo by Samuel, which ends up carrying through to the scene after the end of the credits in the Hulk. They just tickle you pink and make you want to see more, that's it - they're teasers. charamath I loved the part where he slammed himself into the ceilin I pretty much loved whenever he flew or was working on the suite "Let's face it, this is not the worst thing you've caught me doing." plypox After that movie... I've been eating Cheese burgers xd

i really don't care for most films with Samuel Jackson in them (Lethal Weapon and Unbreakable being the exception), so I'm not sure how I feel about that.
