@ Novocain Hey! That's awesome you're interning! What kind of place are you at? How much more school do you have before you graduate? My internship was educational, but only mildly so (found that out when I actually started working). What sort of work are you doing?
@ ToshZombie Haha, nothing wrong with rambling. I sure as hell do it... frequently. What are you teaching yourself, as far as design goes? And body mods seem to be addicting to lots of people. I don't have many piercings, but for the first few years of school, it was a semesterly tradition to get something pierced. I know a bunch of people who have actual addictions (I think) to tattooing too. It's some cool s**t!

i'm trying to get the hang of using my little pad that hooks up to my computer so i can draw my avi. i can draw with a pen and paper, but it's a lot different trying to use that. then the next step....PROPER COLORING! eek

I just have a teeny tiny 4" x 6" Graphire from like five or six years ago, and it's still chugging along! Worth every damn penny. If you haven't played with your in Illustrator yet, give it a shot! What kind of tablet do you have, anyway? And what do you use for layouts, out of curiosity?

Averna13 @ Novocain Hey! That's awesome you're interning! What kind of place are you at? How much more school do you have before you graduate? My internship was educational, but only mildly so (found that out when I actually started working). What sort of work are you doing?Well, i'm just about to start at a medium sized design firm that mostly does packaging, branding, advertising, web, and interactive. even though they all work collaboratively, their studio is split between print and web designers, and i'll be helping out on the print side. I ended up finding them because they actually did some really nice design work that i've seen at the printer i use and a couple stores i go to, so i'm really excited to get the chance to work for them. I'm a senior right now at the Art Institute of Boston, and i'm graduating a semester early. So, i think the countdown starts at fifteen weeks and then i'll be done mrgreen Since you're an art director, i'm sure you have your hands in lots of different things all at once, but what kinds of projects are you working on right now? Oh, and since I'm a poor student, I obviously have to go with iStock. I totally wear the "I Draw Pictures All Day" t-shirt from Veer all the time though. I love them.

Oh, and since I'm a poor student, I obviously have to go with iStock. I totally wear the "I Draw Pictures All Day" t-shirt from Veer all the time though. I love them. Veer is freaking awesome. I've been lucky enough to take advantage of their "buy so much stuff, get merch" kind of promotions that I now have: 2 shirts, 4 hoodies, pillows, camera, DVD, and a bunch of random other smaller stuff from them. heart
With how cheap clients are these days, I have no choice but to go with iStock about 75% of time, but I don't know WHAT I'd do without it!!
Congratulations on being almost done, by the way!! Design school is not for the faint of heart. I think most people don't realize how well-rounded your education becomes by the time you graduate, after having to research/write/edit/proof massive amounts of copy on every subject known to man.
As for what I'm working on right now, let me see. My company is down to one full-time interactive designer and one full-time art director (me). We used to have another web guy, but he quit and the owners decided I could just do what he did and they wouldn't have to replace him (I had nothing to do with said decision). So, that means I've got my fingers into: 3 different web sites (two of which I fully designed), I do small things for a number of other sites as well, advertising for a luxury condominium and it's parent company, recently picked up ads for another of the parent company's properties (luxury loft apartments), 8-page magazines for two different resorts, a logo for a Christian fatherhood thingy (pretty sure this is pro-bono), a promotional poster for some sort of restaurant tie-in at one of the resorts I'm doing a magazine for, and lots of ads.... I think that's about it for right now. I usually work on between 5 and 15 different jobs per day, which gets a little insane sometimes. THOUGH, it certainly makes it hard to get bored with one project!!
What's your favorite thing to do? Personally, I love logos and magazine layout the best. I'm starting to develop a love for web design now that I'm getting back into it too. There's really so much you can do in design, it's kind of mind-boggling! whee

Near Philly, you say? As far as creativeness goes, I'm trying to start up my own flower shop, also near Philly. Just for fun, I like to make beaded jewelry (which I may sell on the side if my flower business gets off the ground), scrapbook (working on three different books right now... sweatdrop ), and knit (working on a bag and a shawl). As for what I do to pay the bills . . . Well, that has nothing to do with creativeness.

There's really so much you can do in design, it's kind of mind-boggling! whee Wow! That's a lot of projects to have going on at once! There was a firm I almost went with that had only two designers as well. They both worked ten hour days without breaks, and had projects ranging from subsidiaries of Nintendo to the mom and pop bakery with an unhealthy addiction to Copperplate Gothic. I would have loved to go work with them, i was just kind of afraid i'd be doing all the work for the clients that like bad design. I totally know what you're saying about design being almost anything! It's everywhere and what you can do is only ever limited by what you're willing to learn... and also money kinda lol. I think Logos would definitely be at the top of my list for favorite things to do. I love doing identities, whether they're graphic or typographic. I really like typography in general, so i think publication is right up there too. Then also packaging, because i like the three dimensional element to it. I like web design, because it's a little bit like "the wild wild west" of graphic design. Only i feel like i'm always walking a line where i either am just remaking the same site i've seen a million places, or i'm doing something that would be way too difficult to figure out (or put together). What kind of process do you use when you're doing web? Do you sketch first?

I do graphics design and love photography and video. I mostly do everything for myself and family though. I do graphics for my websites and make my own business cards and logos and stuff. I video and photograph at parties. Mostly the one's where my husband's group plays music or if someone hires me. I don't do anything professionally though. I am thinking of branching out and starting to do web design and web pages for hire. This is just a thought though!

Hello! I'm a graphic designer, well, I guess was. I've wanted to be a graphic designer forever, then when I finished college I decided I didn't want to be one anymore 'cause I hate designing for other people. Now I'm back in college to become a press operator, or a prepress tech, or a production manager, hahaha. But now I can make my own stuff completely from start to finish!
I do photography on the side as a hobby (I'm not horribly good at it, and I'd never call myself a photographer, haha), draw, rubber stamp and make greeting cards, and now I've gotten into making things with Sculpey clay.
