Freya, Odin, The Morrigan, Bragi, Thor, Idunna.

"one of these things is not like the others"

The last time someone asked me what is my religion,
I said, Asatru, and it felt like the right thing to say,
but how does The Morrigan fit?

Maybe, from an astrological perspective,
The Morrigan possesses many Plutonian characteristics,
and Pluto, Plutonian themes,
have figured prominently in my life,
particularly over the last year or so.

Maybe I'm confusing a love of this performance
http://youtube.com/watch?v=H0zTPCQFJ2c
with love of that particular goddess.

Thoughts?
Opinions?

How do you know it's the Morrigan?

Are you a celt?

Why call your religion Asatru if you think other deities might be calling you?

What do you actually practice?

How do you know it's the Morrigan?

I don't, really. That's what I'm trying to figure out, I suppose.
It just as easily could be an unconscious fabrication purely
of my own making, arising from the strong reaction I have
to that video that I posted a link to.

Quote:
Are you a celt?

By ancestry? Largely yes as far as I know.

Quote:

Possibly it is premature, but it does feel right.
I've felt touched, guided by, conscious of
Freya, Odin, Bragi, Thor, Idunna.
Thor most spectacularly when I was standing outside
during a thunderstorm, thinking about the question
of the topic of this thread.
I feel in agreement and at home with the Nine Noble Virtues
and Law of the Hall as stated on the AFA website.

Quote:

I blot regularly, usually with friends, and it feels very natural to me.
I strive to live in a manner that I hope The Gods will respect and enjoy.

Loona- note that Asatru is not a restrictive tradition. Many Asatru acknowledge and worship gods outside of their tradition.

I've been trying really hard to formulate a response to this post for some time now.
I'm going to ask some questions, they're not going to be particularly tactfully phrased, they're not going to be particularly nice, but they are particularly necessary.

The Morrigan:
Who is the Morrigan?
Who is the Morrigan to you?
What interest does she have in you?
What language do you talk to her in?

Your culture:
What makes one a Celt?
What makes you a Celt?
How do the cultural laws of the Celts apply to you?

Your sources:
What are they?
How credible are they?
What scholastic research have you done?

I will gladly answer the sections on culture and sources.

Honest straightforwardness IS nice,
just doesn't always feel that way at first,
thank you for the questions.

What makes me a Celt?
Ancestry, a Primal Love of the Music,
feelings of longing when I see pictures
of Irish and Scottish countryside.

What makes one a Celt in your opinion?

I'll be glad to discuss further,
but it's getting Late over here.

Believe me, I'm toning down my approach. It's normally a lot colder than this. I'm trying a new approach.

These are good answers. I see where you're coming from.
I am going to challenge them. Not to prove you wrong, but to provide you a facility to prove you right. This is the way things are done among the Celts. You can check this yourself by reading the story of Fethercerne.

Ancestry is a good answer. You have the blood of the Gael in you, this makes you leathgael. Of the people.

However.

Music is the most fundamental communicative system. It appeals to both the left and right hemispheres of the brain. We were awesome at it. We have produced styles of music which are psychologically effective at producing emotion. That's the idea of music, in our world view.
We're good at it.
Why would you finding music, or even our music, attractive make you a Celt?

Ireland and Scotland are picturesque. The countryside is unlike anything I have seen elsewhere, therefore their beauty is unique. Not better than anywhere else, just unique.
So this appeals to your brain.
Why does this make you a Celt?

I'm NOT correcting you, I'm questioning you.

CricketBrain
What makes one a Celt in your opinion?

Being a Celt.
Not just having the ancestry, practicing our lifestyle, upholding our ethics, fuflilling our oaths.

CricketBrain

Cool.

ok, I said it was Late, but I'm feeling inspired to answer this one.

I am awesome at it.

Celtic music flows through me naturally,
much of what I play are my own compositions,
although sometimes it doesn't feel right to
call them "mine" as I often come up with things
in fits and starts with no conscious effort.

I've been told
"I closed my eyes and it was like warm milk flowing over me."

After a blot recently, one of the hosts said my playing
helped to create sacred space and set the folk at ease.

I've been loudly booed for trying to get away with playing only one
piece at the open mic rather than the usual two.

and so forth.

I've been singing my whole life.
I'm on playing acoustic guitar and electric bass for 20+ years.
Bodhran for 12, didgeridoo two months.
The only thing stopping me from harp and bagpipes is finances.

Musical talent and the ability to replicate it is a natural talent that exists everywhere.

Fair enough. It was late when I posted those questions so I wasn't completely awake. Though I do find I questions things a lot more when I'm in the transition stage from awake to asleep.
