It was really interesting to see a movie based on the spanish experience in WWII, something we don't here much about in the states.

I really liked the movie even though it was far from what I expected. I was thinking it was a childs movie, and then the whole beating the face with the beer bottle kind of cleared that up for me.
I found it horribly sad though, made even sadder by the beautiful music. And I was not expecting the girl to die at the end...or did she really die? We will never know. I like endings that make you wonder.

Yeah, we rented it, thinking it was a family movie, and my little sister still has nightmares. She calls it a horror film, cuz it's the closest thing she's seen to that category. I probably would have liked it better if I had been expecting it to be what it really was.

I thought the movie was weird. The father was also very cruel. I didn't like it very well.

I was like WTF? Subtitles!? gonk eek

arashi-chan12 I thought the movie was weird. The father was also very cruel. I didn't like it very well. The creulty and brutality is rather the point. The movie is exploring the ugliness of Spanish fascism, contrastic fascist brutality with the idealistm of the freedom fighters and the child. The fairy world is not kind or gentle either in the end and even the good and the brave are violent. The girl at least is fighting for love and to save an innocent.
