The Advocate D.C.’s High Heel Race was founded by accident 21 years ago when a few guys in drag ran from JR’s, a gay bar on 17th Street, to Annie’s Steak House a few blocks away, did a shot, and ran back. (The race’s present route is the same; JR’s is the unofficial sponsor.) Source: http://www.advocate.com/issue_story_ektid51686.asp I found this rather fantastic quote reading The Advocate online. i thought it was pretty cute how a queer custom like that had started, so I figured I'd pop a thread in the Shounen-Ai Guild's chatterbox about it.
How many of you fools, guys or girls, would participate in a high heel race? I know I would just for the hell of it (and it's GAY), and I hate heels. 8D

That said, the real purpose of the article was to talk about the shutting down of Halloween at the Castro in San Francisco this last year, 2007. This made me really sad, because it was an event I really wanted to make it to sometime just to be there and gay it up with everyone. The problem was, of course, that in past years more and more non-queer-friendly participants had been attending and causing trouble, harassment, and violence at the large-scale event.
Have you been to a large queer event like this before? What were your thoughts? Were there any instances of homophobia there, even when there are such high concentrations of queer and ally people?

I would've done it! Definitely, but that overall sounds like it was funny! Plus, that's a pretty interesting cause.

That is beautiful. XDD I've crossdressed for Halloween before, but it's more socially acceptable and less attention-getting for a girl to do it, unfortunately...
I'd have run up and congratulated you guys on your awesomeness. 8D

I thought it sounded completely hilarious. There's little more fun than drag in action, kings or queens.
