I'm Taiwanese/Chinese however you like it. I live in Las Vegas where there aren't a lot of Asian's. Ever since i moved to Vegas, I've lost my way. I can't seem to connect with the Asians at my school. They look at me with contempt for openly showing that i love anime. I don't wear the clothes brands they do and go along with their style. I'm quite happy with my life in Vegas and the friends i have made, but i want to welcome all aspects of my life. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong or it's just them. I would really like some help and insight.

You waited for me at the end of the bridge.... Really? Vegas? I'm also from there and there are plenty of asians. Well anyway it is not you at all, I had the same problem at first when I first moved out here. Just be yourself and you will find someone who will have the same interests as you.
and when I was finally there, you were gone...

Oh come on, you don't need to force yourself to act Asian to be Asian. If you don't have any connections with other of your kind, it isn't your fault since it's a question of personal interests. It's too bad, better chance next time, next person. Be proud of who you are and of how you live your life. 3nodding

you could read chinese fairy tales, books on tradition, make chinese or taiwanese food to appreciate the food, oh and buy movies and cds of your ehtnicity. IF you have forgotten some mandarin or cantonese or whatever review your kanji. its nice to know there is another chinese person here other than myself.

Well. I am sorta in the same situation as you are. Apparently all my asian friends wear those expensive brand name clothes that i dont like.
I would recommend talking about asian food (everyone loves that ^_^)
Even try speaking to them in Chinese.
The way I see asian is:
1) Able to speak his/her Asian language 2) Cheap (parents teach how to save money since you are 5) 3) You celebrate Asian new year. 4) Enjoying Asian food. (What asian person HATES rice?)
These days I do all that. You DONT have to dye your hair, even though most asians do it. I did it for the first time during the summer. I mean I REALLY liked it. If you dont like it you dont have to. Also the way we see asian guys here is that they each have their own hair style. Mine changed from time to time, but was basically the same.
Just remember to be yourself. That is the MOST important thing.

Go talk to them and see if you guys have any similar asian interests (music, fashion, food, etc.)
If all fails, go to Chinatown [x
